Branding and graphic design studios · Professional services

Get paid for the thinking, not just the logo file.

A design studio competes with a freelancer on Instagram, a template on Canva and a stranger on a gig platform quoting a few hundred rupees for a logo. The owner who comes to you has usually seen all three and is not sure why your quote is so much higher.

A 45-minute audit call, a written and scored report within a few working days, then a monthly report against your baseline.

In one paragraph

Marketing for a branding or graphic design studio means being the studio a founder finds when naming, launching or rebranding a business. Sales means turning that enquiry into a scoped project with a fair fee and a revision limit. GullySales works on the studio's own business, from a portfolio that explains the thinking to design retainers after launch.

Most studios have strong work and a weak story about it. The portfolio shows beautiful logos with no explanation, and the quote is a single number that invites haggling. Then the launch happens, the client needs a signboard and a brochure, and the printer's in-house designer does them.

How buyers decide

How branding and graphic design studios are chosen.

A founder launching a restaurant, a D2C product or a clinic usually asks around first. Architects, interior designers, printers and packaging suppliers are asked for a designer all the time, and many studio projects start with that recommendation. The founder then looks at the studio's Instagram, Behance or website to see if the style fits what they have in their head.

The trigger is almost always an event with a date, such as a trademark filing or a signboard order for a new business. A family business wants a new look before the second generation takes over, often alongside a franchise plan. A food brand needs new packs before a modern trade listing.

The founder decides, though a spouse or an investor often gives opinions late in the process. A portfolio piece close to their category gets the meeting. The studio that asks about the business before talking about colours, and says how many revision rounds the fee covers, usually wins it.

The problem

What usually goes wrong for branding and graphic design studios.

What owners tell us on the first call, in their words.

  • Clients compare our quote with a logo on a gig site

A founder sees a logo offered for a tiny fee online and asks why our identity project costs many times more.

  • Revisions never end

The client wants one more option, then their cousin's opinion, then a return to the first draft, and a two-week project runs for three months.

  • Our portfolio shows logos, not results

The website is a grid of marks and mock-ups, with nothing to tell a restaurant owner or a manufacturer what problem each one solved.

  • We design the identity and someone else gets the ongoing work

After the logo is delivered, the brochure, packaging and signage go to a printer's in-house designer or a freelancer.

  • The name we worked on could not be registered

A client loved the name we proposed and later found a similar mark already filed in their class, and blamed us for the wasted weeks.

  • We get asked for free concepts before a client commits

A prospect wants three logo ideas to decide whether to hire us, and then disappears with the sketches.

What we do

What we do for branding and graphic design studios.

Everything included for branding and graphic design studios, and the result each part is there to produce.

  1. Portfolio pages organised by the problem solved

Case pages grouped by project type, such as a restaurant launch or a packaging refresh, each explaining the brief, the thinking and what the client did next.

Result: A founder sees how you would approach a business like theirs.

  2. Scoped project packages

Written packages for identity, rebrand, packaging and collateral work, each stating deliverables, revision rounds, timelines and what counts as extra.

Result: The quote explains itself, and revisions have an agreed limit.

  3. A discovery questionnaire and first call

A short questionnaire and call structure that covers the business, the customer, competitors and deadlines before any design is discussed.

Result: The prospect sees a studio that thinks about their business first.

  4. Paid discovery instead of free concepts

A small paid first stage covering research and direction boards, offered in place of the free logo sketches prospects often ask for.

Result: Serious clients commit early and sketches stop leaving unpaid.

  5. Referral relationships with architects, interior designers and printers

A partner note and portfolio pack for the people who are asked for a designer, with a simple way to track who sent which project.

Result: Recommendations arrive steadily instead of by chance.

  6. Follow-on offer after every identity project

A planned conversation at handover about brochures, packaging, signage and social templates, with a design retainer option.

Result: The client's next design need comes back to you.

  7. Instagram and Behance presence planned around case stories

Posts showing before and after, early sketches and the reasoning behind choices, rather than only finished mock-ups.

Result: Followers who are founders understand what they would be paying for.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiries by source, including referral partners
  • Discovery calls against signed projects
  • Average project value by package
  • Revision rounds per project
  • Share of clients returning for follow-on work
  • Retainer clients and months retained

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, then reported every month against it.

Worth a page and a campaign of their own

Brand identity projects for new businesses · Rebranding for family businesses and established firms · Brand naming with a trademark check · Packaging design for FMCG and D2C products · Restaurant and cafe branding with menus and signage · Brochures, catalogues and company profiles · Brand guidelines and templates for in-house teams · Design retainers for ongoing marketing material

Priority campaigns

Campaigns for what branding and graphic design studios most want to sell.

Each one planned around when your buyers decide, and measured against the baseline.

  • New restaurant and cafe launch campaign

A restaurant branding page, past hospitality work and outreach through interior designers and kitchen consultants who work on new openings.

Result: You are introduced to the owner before the signboard is ordered.

  • Packaging refresh campaign for food and consumer brands

A packaging case study, a marketplace listing checklist and LinkedIn outreach to founders of small food and personal care brands.

Result: Brands preparing for a marketplace or retail listing reach you in time.

  • Second-generation rebrand campaign

Content and a short guide on refreshing a family business identity without losing old customers, shared through trade associations and CAs.

Result: The next generation sees a studio that respects the legacy.

  • Startup naming and identity campaign

A naming service page with a clear trademark search step, promoted through incubators and founder communities.

Result: Founders choose a name they can actually protect.

  • Past client design retainer campaign

A note to past identity clients offering a monthly design allowance for social posts, flyers and presentations.

Result: One-off projects turn into regular monthly work.

Beyond search

Where we reach buyers of branding and graphic design studios, beyond Google.

Search matters, but it is rarely the only way this industry's buyers find a supplier.

  • Architects and interior designers

We prepare an introduction and a hospitality and retail portfolio for design firms whose clients need an identity and signage.

  • Printers and packaging converters

We prepare a partner note so printers and box makers can refer clients who arrive without print-ready artwork.

  • Startup incubators and founder groups

We prepare a workshop outline on naming and identity for early founders, with a follow-up offer.

  • Chartered accountants and company registration consultants

We prepare a note for the advisers who register new companies and are asked who can design a logo.

  • Design communities and listing platforms

We keep your Behance, Instagram and Google profiles current with case stories and reviews from real clients.

FAQ

Questions branding and graphic design studios ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do we justify our fee against cheap online logos?
Show what the fee buys beyond the file. A cheap logo comes with no trademark check, no guidelines and no artwork sized for the signboard. A scoped package lists those lines, so the founder sees what the gig-site price leaves out.
Should we check trademarks before presenting a name?
Yes, at least a basic public search of the trademark registry in the client's class. Add a note that a formal search and filing belong with a trademark attorney. It saves the client from falling in love with a name they cannot protect.
How many revision rounds should we include?
A fixed number stated in the proposal, commonly two or three, with any further round priced in advance. The number matters less than agreeing it before the first concept is shown.
Is Instagram or Behance better for finding clients?
Instagram reaches business owners, Behance reaches other designers and some brand managers. Most small studios get more paying enquiries from Instagram and referrals, with Behance as a portfolio link.
Can we sell design as a monthly retainer?
Yes, once a client has an identity and a steady need for social posts, flyers and presentations. A fixed monthly allowance of design requests suits businesses without an in-house designer.
How long is the contract?
Three to six months at a time. There is no twelve-month lock, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile usually show in weeks, because the enquiries already exist. Ads show in days once follow-up is ready. SEO and content take months. The audit tells you which applies to you.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 45 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the monthly review.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Every month is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. Terms run three to six months at a time, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
