Water treatment solutions providers · Referral marketing

Get specified by the consulting engineer before the tender is even drafted.

Referral for a water treatment company runs through consulting engineers, builders, plumbing contractors, facility managers and the apartment secretary who tells the next one. Each needs a different ask. GullySales builds the list, gives each group something useful, and records where every enquiry actually came from.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For water treatment solutions providers

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The consulting engineer writes the specification you will be bidding against”

For an industrial or a large residential project, the consultant decides the technology and often the make before anybody is invited to quote. Being useful to the consultant at the drawing stage is worth more than any enquiry that arrives afterwards.

  • “Facility managers move, and they take vendors with them”

A facility manager who trusted your service at one apartment complex is running a hotel two years later. That single relationship is the most reliable referral route in this trade, and almost nobody keeps track of where their old contacts went.

  • “One apartment secretary talks to the next one”

Managing committees in the same area know each other, and water is the complaint they all have. A committee that got a straight answer from you will say so when a neighbouring association asks, provided somebody has given them your name to pass on.

What we do

What we deliver for water treatment solutions providers.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A worked list of consultants, builders and contractors

Consulting engineers, developers, plumbing contractors and facility management firms in your region, with who has specified you and who has never been approached.

Result: You know where the next specification is being written.

  2. A technical pack a consultant can use in a drawing

Capacities, footprints, power and running cost data in a form an engineer can lift straight into a specification without redrawing it.

Result: Your equipment ends up in the document you will bid against.

  3. A compliance pack ready for a builder

Certificates, test data and documentation a developer needs for approvals, kept current so it goes out the day it is asked for.

Result: A slow document request stops costing you the project.

  4. Reference sites named, with permission

Installations a prospective buyer may visit or ring, with the contact agreed in advance and the site's water problem described.

Result: A facility manager can check you without taking your word.

  5. Old contacts tracked to their new sites

A record of where satisfied facility managers and engineers have moved, so the relationship is used rather than lost.

Result: One good service year keeps paying for several more.

  6. Referral source captured on every enquiry

The consultant, builder, committee or customer behind each enquiry recorded when it arrives, and reported back to your team.

Result: You can see which relationships are worth the visits.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals reach a water firm

The people who name you are the ones who see the borewell report before the buyer does.

The consulting engineer
Give the consultant a technical pack with the flow range, the water quality it handles and the drawing details to paste into the specification. A consultant names a supplier whose data can be lifted.
The builder's MEP team
A builder needs a plant that passes at handover. Send a compliance pack with test parameters and a named contact, and tell the MEP engineer what your site survey needs.
The plumbing contractor and the borewell driller
They are called first when water goes bad. Give them a short sheet on when to call a treatment company and what to test, and record who sent each enquiry.
The apartment secretary and the facility manager
A secretary talks to the next secretary. Offer to show a running plant, with the committee's permission, and note the facility manager's name in case they move to another site.
What never to do
Never reuse one site's water report or plant photographs for another buyer without the first site's say-so. Water differs between borewells, so a referred buyer needs a fresh test.

Who it is for

This is written for these water treatment solutions providers.

  • Residential water purifier and softener dealers
  • Apartment and gated community water treatment providers
  • Industrial effluent treatment plant providers
  • Commercial RO plant suppliers
  • Borewell water treatment specialists
  • Hotel and hospitality water treatment providers
  • Swimming pool water treatment companies
  • Packaged drinking water plant manufacturers

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You have no reference site you may name, so a consultant would have nothing to check.
  • You are not ready to survey outside your own area, so referrals from far away would be refused.

How it works

How the referral marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

Read the margin and the relationship

We work out what a new customer is worth and what you can pay to get one, then check whether customers know others like themselves.

  2. 2

Find the referrals you already get

Your invoices, call notes and WhatsApp threads show who already sends people to you, and who they are. That sets the starting point and the first people to ask.

  3. 3

Write the offer and the rules

The reward, the definition of a valid referral and the payout steps are agreed in writing before anything is shown to customers.

  4. 4

Build the share path and the record

The message, the link or code and the referral sheet are built. Your team tests a referral end to end, from forward to reward.

  5. 5

Start with your best customers, then widen

The first asks go to people who have already praised you. What they say about the offer decides what changes before it reaches the wider base.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 7, after the sale. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do we get in front of consulting engineers we do not know?
With data, not a brochure. Take the consultant the water analysis for an area the consultant is designing for, or the running cost comparison between two technologies at that hardness. A consultant is protecting their own reputation with the client, so they specify people who make them look thorough.
Should we pay a commission for a referred project?
Many in this trade do, and if you choose to, put it in writing and keep it consistent. The risk is not the payment, it is a buyer discovering an arrangement nobody mentioned. Decide your position and make sure everyone on your team describes it the same way.
Can we name a past client in our proposals?
Only with the client's written permission, and tell the client exactly where the name will appear. Some firms and housing societies do not allow vendors to use their name. Keep the permission on file, and offer a site visit as the other reference.
A referred apartment wants the same plant as its neighbour. What do we tell them?
Explain that water differs from one borewell to the next, so the plant is chosen after a test at the new site. Offer to show the neighbour's plant if its committee agrees, and quote only after the new report is in.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
