Sales management · Sales planning and goals
Get a yes from the team and from accounts before a new sales strategy launches.
Strategy buy-in is the work of explaining a new sales strategy to the people who must act on it, then recording whether they can live with it. A change plan covers the sales team, accounts, dispatch, leadership and key distributors. It ends with a communication and objection log.
Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

In one paragraph
Strategy buy-in is the work of explaining a new sales strategy to the people who must act on it, then recording whether they can live with it. A change plan covers the sales team, accounts, dispatch, leadership and key distributors. It ends with a communication and objection log.
A kitchen appliance maker in Ahmedabad decides to stop discounting to small dealers and push a new range through larger ones. The sales head tells the reps on Monday. By Friday the credit controller has approved three small-dealer orders because nobody told the credit desk.
Plans fail in the gaps between departments. The reps heard it, and accounts, dispatch and the key distributors did not. A change plan starts with who is affected, which is more people than you first think.
Then you ask each person one question: can you live with this? Write down the answer and the worry behind it. A rep who says yes in the meeting and no in the corridor is a rep you cannot count on.
The sales manager leads and the owner backs. It follows the strategic plan and goal cascade, because the strategy cannot be explained until the goals are fixed.
Where this sits
Topic 2 of 14 in sales management: sales planning and goals. Turning the business plan into goals each person can act on.
- The topic before
- The sales manager's job
- The topic after
- Sales force design
If you want this done for you
The strategy changes when leadership meets and drifts before the next meeting.
The work
What this is actually like.
“Top-down is fast and brittle”
Announcing the strategy takes an hour. Rebuilding trust after reps ignore it takes a quarter. Share a draft, take two rounds of feedback and let reps set their own quotas inside it.
“Credit and dispatch are part of the sales plan”
If the strategy changes who gets credit or which items ship first, accounts and stores must hear it from the owner. A sales plan the credit department has not seen will be reversed by an invoice.
“Distributors hear it last and matter more”
A distributor who learns about a change from a competitor is a distributor who stops pushing you. Brief the top ones in person or by call, and ask what it does to their margin.
“The quiet no is the real objection”
'Can you live with this?' gets a polite yes in a group. Ask one to one, after the meeting, and write what they said and what worried them. Then speak to everyone who said no, about their role, not about the plan.
What we do
What you end up with.
The documents this topic produces, what each one is for, and how you know it is finished.
The approach note
A page choosing top-down, bottom-up or both, with a list of everyone who will be affected, inside and outside the sales team, and the date each will hear.
Result: Finished when no affected department is missing from the list.
The draft strategy with feedback rounds
The strategy on two pages, marked with version numbers, and a record of what changed after each round of feedback and who asked for it.
Result: Finished when at least one rep's suggestion shows in the final text.
The buy-in log
One row per person: name, role, can they live with it (yes, yes with a concern, no), the concern in their words, and the follow-up action and date.
Result: Finished when every person has answered one to one.
The communication plan
A table with audience, message in one sentence, who tells them, the channel (meeting, call, WhatsApp group) and the date. Include accounts, stores, key distributors and the owner's family if they work in the firm.
Result: Finished when each audience has had its message and confirmed receipt.
The objection and complaint log
After launch, every complaint from another department or a customer, with date, cause, who handles it and whether it changed the strategy.
Result: Finished when each entry has a decision beside it.
