Keyword research for dermatology clinics: the words patients type
The keywords for dermatologists that bring appointments are the ones patients type: skin doctor near me, acne treatment cost, hair fall treatment. How to group them, and which page each belongs on.

On this page
The keywords for dermatologists that bring appointments are rarely the word dermatologist. Patients in India type skin doctor, skin specialist, pimple doctor and hair doctor, then add near me or a locality. Or they type the condition: hair fall treatment, acne scars, white patches on skin. Or the procedure and its price: laser hair removal cost, chemical peel price. So the research starts with those four kinds of search, gives each its own page, and leaves the face wash and home remedy searches alone. No keyword tool knows which words your town uses. Your enquiry log does.
The four kinds of search a skin patient makes
| What a patient types | Who types it | What they want | Where it belongs |
|---|---|---|---|
| skin doctor near me, skin specialist near me, dermatologist near me | Anyone with a new problem, on a phone | The nearest clinic open today, with reviews | Your Google Business Profile and the clinic's locality page |
| best dermatologist in [locality] | Someone comparing two or three clinics | The doctor's name, qualification and reviews | The doctor's profile page |
| acne treatment, pimple treatment cost, acne scar removal | Teenagers, their parents, and anyone with a wedding date | To know it can be fixed and what it costs | The acne page, with a price range |
| hair fall treatment, hair doctor, PRP for hair cost | Men in their late twenties and thirties, women after childbirth | An honest answer on what works | The hair fall page |
| laser hair removal cost, full body laser price | Women before the wedding season | The price per session and how many sessions | The laser page |
| pigmentation treatment, melasma, dark spots on face | Women over thirty | A treatment that lasts | The pigmentation page |
| psoriasis doctor, vitiligo treatment, eczema specialist | Someone with a chronic condition who knows its name | A doctor who will treat it for years | One page per condition |
| white patches on skin, itching at night, hair falling in clumps | Someone worried who has not named it yet | To know what it might be | A short patient guide that links to booking |
| warts removal, mole removal, skin tag removal | Anyone with something they want gone | A same-day procedure and its price | The minor procedures page |
Two patterns run through that table. The place word and the condition word matter more than the brand word, and half the searches carry a price question. A website with a Services page and a Contact page answers none of them.
Where to find the words patients in your town use
Your enquiry log. Write down the exact words of the last fifty WhatsApp and phone enquiries. Patients send a photograph and ask "what is this on my neck". That sentence is a keyword nobody's tool has.
Your Google Business Profile performance report. It lists the searches people made before they found your listing. Almost no clinic reads it.
Autocomplete, on a phone, with your locality. Type skin doctor, hair fall and laser, then your area, and read what Google finishes for you. Do the same with the "people also ask" box.
The chain clinics above you on Maps. Read their categories and the names of their services. You are not copying them; you are reading which words Google has already decided this city uses.
Search Console, once the pages have been live a while, for what you already appear for.
Language matters here. In Coimbatore or Vijayawada the search is typed in English and the consultation happens in Tamil or Telugu. The page stays in English; the receptionist answers in the patient's language.
One page per condition, one per procedure, and one per doctor
The common mistake is a Services page listing acne, hair fall, laser, peels and pigmentation in five paragraphs. It competes for every search and wins none.
Give each condition its own page: acne, acne scars, hair fall, pigmentation, psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, fungal infections, warts and moles. Give each procedure its own page: laser hair removal, chemical peels, PRP, microneedling, and hair transplant or injectables only if you do them. Each page says what the thing is in plain words, who it suits, how many sessions as a range, the price as a range, and which doctor does it.
Then a page per doctor, with qualification and registration number, because "best dermatologist in Anna Nagar" is a search for a person. And match the Google Business Profile to those pages, since for most patients the Maps result is the shortlist and the website is the check afterwards. The profile side is set out on our Google Business Profile for dermatology clinics page.
The rules on what a clinic may say
Doctors in India practise under professional conduct regulations that restrict advertising, and photographs, testimonials, price claims and words such as best or guaranteed are the sensitive areas. Which words are permitted, and whether before-and-after images may be shown, differs with how the regulations are read and changes when they are revised. Ask your state medical council or read the National Medical Commission's current guidance before a page goes live. It is the doctor's registration, not the agency's, that carries the risk.
Which searches to leave alone
Home remedies for pimples, best face wash for oily skin, skin care routine, sunscreen for oily skin. These bring readers who want a product or a tip, and none of them books.
Dermatologist salary, how to become a dermatologist, MD dermatology seats. Students.
Chain clinic brand names. You will not outrank a chain for its own name, and the patient typing it has already chosen.
Free skin consultation. The enquiry it brings wants the free part.
Skin whitening. A search you may not want to rank for, and one where your council's view of the claim matters more than the traffic.
For example: a clinic in Anna Nagar, Chennai
For example, take a clinic in Anna Nagar with one dermatologist, one cosmetologist and a laser machine. The details are illustrative. Its website has Home, About, Services and Contact. Rewrite Services as nine pages: acne, acne scars, hair fall, PRP, laser hair removal, pigmentation, psoriasis and eczema, warts and moles, and a doctor page with the registration number. Each page names Anna Nagar. Price ranges are labelled as ranges, for example laser hair removal on the underarms at ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 a session, a figure your own clinic will differ on. Nine doors a patient's search can open, instead of one.
What to do next
Write the exact words of your last twenty enquiries in one column, and the search terms from your Google Business Profile report in the next. Where the two lists agree, you have your first five pages. Where they disagree, you have found what your website is failing to say. If you want that list built and the pages checked against what your council permits, tell us what you need.
