Why families go to Delhi or Vellore instead of Patna, and how a clinic can answer
Many Bihar families travel to Delhi or Vellore because the far hospital feels certain. A Patna clinic answers by publishing the doctor, the process, the stay and the named person a family will speak to.

On this page
A family in Begusarai weighs a Patna hospital against the long train to Delhi, or to Katpadi for Vellore. A son in Bengaluru may make the final call from a phone. Families often choose the far city because it feels certain: a relative has been, so they know the doctor's name, what happens on arrival and where they will sleep. A Patna clinic answers by publishing that for families from outside the city, in a form the relative can forward home: the doctor, the steps from arrival to discharge, the stay, and the named person who answers the phone.
What the far hospital has that your page does not
The family is comparing certainty, not surgeons line by line. A family going to Vellore has often heard from someone in the village which train to take, which counter to queue at and which lodge takes families. A family going to Delhi may have a doctor's name from a cousin. They travel a long way to a routine they already know.
Now look at a typical hospital website the way that relative sees it at eleven at night: a banner, a landline, a list of departments, no doctor's name and a contact form. There is no way to find out who would treat the father, on which day, or what it would involve. So the train gets booked.
Match what the family has already heard
Every certainty about the far hospital came to the family as a sentence from a relative. Your page has to say the Patna equivalent of each, and somebody inside the hospital has to keep it true.
| What the family heard about the far hospital | What your page must publish | Who keeps it true |
|---|---|---|
| "Ask for this doctor, who treated my cousin" | A page per doctor: name, qualifications as registered, what they treat, OPD days | HR, whenever a doctor joins, leaves or changes days |
| "There is a set routine and everyone follows it" | The first visit step by step, in the order it happens, and roughly how long it takes | Front office manager |
| "Take the train to Katpadi, the lodges near the hospital take families" | How to reach you from Patna Junction and the bus stand, and the lodges and dharamshalas within walking distance | Administration |
| "We knew roughly what it would cost before we went" | What decides the cost, the insurers and government schemes you accept, and that the doctor confirms any estimate after seeing the reports | Billing |
| "Someone there explained everything to us" | A named coordinator who speaks Hindi, Bhojpuri, Maithili or Magahi, with a WhatsApp number and the hours they answer | The coordinator |
| "They told us plainly when they could not help" | The conditions you refer to a higher centre | Medical director |
Put all six on one "Coming to Patna for treatment" page and link it from every department page. The third column is the one that gets skipped.
Plan for the weeks the son is home
Some families hold planned treatment for the weeks the paying son is home, around Chhath or Holi. Say on the page how a planned procedure is booked from outside: send the reports to the coordinator, get a first consultation date, and let the doctor say how much time the rest needs. The doctor decides the timing, never the festival calendar, and nothing urgent waits for anyone's leave.
The paying relative reads the pages first, searching "gallbladder surgery Patna" or similar. How to write the summary that gets forwarded home is covered in selling when the decision-maker lives in another city. Keep each doctor's hours the same on the page and on the Google Business Profile.
Reviews are the cousin's advice, written down
Where a family has no relative who has been to you, reviews stand in for one, and the paying relative reads them first. Answer every review, the angry ones first, without confirming that the writer was a patient or mentioning any detail of care. Never offer anything in return for a review, and do not put patient stories on the site as proof of results. What hospitals may say in public is governed by rules that differ by body and state and change, so have your own council or adviser read the page, the reply templates and the records-sharing steps once before they go live.
For example: a surgeon who had moved on
This is an invented case. A multi-speciality hospital on Bailey Road has a website that still lists a gastro surgeon who left months ago. A family in Saharsa, whose mother needs gallbladder surgery, picks the hospital because it is the only page in Patna that names a surgeon and the OPD days. They travel overnight, ask for the surgeon at registration, and are told another doctor will see them. Nobody had told them, and nobody had told the website. The son in Pune hears it from a sister, books his mother on the train to Vellore instead, and writes a one-star review about doctor pages that lie. The family has lost a night and about ₹6,000 in fares.
The page had been true once, and nobody owned it. Now each row of the table has a keeper with a name, and the form HR fills in when a doctor joins or leaves asks which pages name this doctor. The old page says the surgeon has moved and names the surgeons here who do the same operation. The reply to the review said the same, without a word about the patient. The review stays up, and the Saharsa family does not return.
When the honest answer is Delhi or Vellore
Some families should go further, and a page that says so earns trust for everything else on it. If a case needs facilities you do not have, name those cases and say that you refer them. A page also cannot fix what the hospital does not do: if the coordinator's chair is empty, the page sends families to a closed door.
Test the page from outside Patna
Ask three people on your staff to find three things on a phone, from your website alone. The surgeon for one common operation. The day that surgeon sees new patients. The number to call from outside Patna. Every answer they cannot find is a question a relative in Bengaluru could not answer either. Our Bihar page describes the districts these families come from, website and user experience auditing is the related service, and you can tell us what you need.
