A shelf is a purchase of strength, and buyers want proof it will not come off the wall.

Shelving has a fear built in. A buyer who drills four holes into a wall and loads books on a shelf is trusting a stranger's board and bracket. The buyer wants to know the thickness, the weight each shelf holds, and what the wall needs, since brick, concrete and hollow partition walls take different fixings.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Shelving e-commerce is the online sale of wall shelves, floating shelves, bookcases, shoe racks, metal racks and corner units in wood, engineered board and metal. GullySales works on how your shelving listings state load limits, fixing and board thickness, how delivery and assembly are explained, and how a buyer is given the confidence to drill.

Bulky shelving also has a delivery problem. A flat-pack bookcase is a heavy carton that a courier bends at the corner, and a bent corner is the review.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell shelving online.

  • Wall shelf and floating shelf makers selling in sets of two and three
  • Metal rack and shoe rack brands selling flat-pack units on marketplaces
  • Bookcase and display unit makers who deliver large cartons across cities
  • Furniture workshops that sell shelves in sized wood and have started online

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who prints a load rating the product has never been tested at
  • Anyone who cannot deliver heavy cartons undamaged and has no replacement plan

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of shelving.

  1. Board, bracket and load

Solid wood, MDF, plywood or metal; thickness in millimetres; bracket type. The buyer wants a weight per shelf and a note on what happens if the limit is exceeded.

  2. The wall

Brick, concrete, drywall or hollow block. A listing that lists the plugs included and the wall they suit saves a message and a return.

  3. Size and spacing

Length, depth and the gap between shelves. A book buyer checks whether a large book fits, a plant buyer checks the depth.

  4. Look and finish

Walnut, white, black, natural. Buyers match the finish to a wall and a room, and are wary of laminates that peel at the edge.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell shelving online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Our shelves arrive with a damaged corner”

The carton is dropped, the edge is crushed and the shelf is sold as new. The buyer does not want a repair kit, they want a replacement.

  • “Reviews say the shelf fell off the wall”

The cause is the wrong plug for the wall, or too much load. A seller who never explained the wall type gets the blame.

  • “Customers want a unit for a specific alcove and we sell standard sizes”

They message with a measurement, get no reply, and order custom from a local carpenter.

What we do

What you get for shelving.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A load and wall card

One graphic that gives weight per shelf, fixings included and which walls they suit.

  2. An installation film and printed sheet

A short film and a sheet in the box that a first-time installer can follow, in English and, where your buyers need it, Hindi or Kannada.

  3. A damage report by route

A list of damaged cartons by courier, city and product, with suggestions for corner protection to try.

  4. A custom size form

A form that gets all the measurements, a photograph of the wall and the finish wanted, so a quotation can be written in one go.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Average order value
  • Return rate
  • Damage claims by courier

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your shelf range with board thickness, load tests and fixings
  • Complaints about damage and falling shelves, with photographs
  • The cities and couriers you ship through
  • Custom size enquiries you have received
  • Your best-selling finishes

Selling in India and abroad

Selling shelving beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Walls abroad

Many overseas homes have plasterboard walls and use different fixings. Shelving sold abroad needs its own fixing advice, or none included.

  2. Heavy cartons

A flat-pack bookcase is expensive to ship across a border, and duty applies. Sell abroad only where your current orders already show demand.

FAQ

Questions about selling shelving online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I state a shelf's load limit honestly?
Test it. Load a shelf with weights until it bends, then state a lower figure with the method. A limit that is tested and a bit conservative beats a bold one you cannot defend in a review.
Is it worth selling made-to-measure shelves online?
Yes, as a separate route from the standard range. It needs a form that collects the measurements and a quick quotation, because a buyer who waits goes to a local carpenter.
How do I reduce damage on heavy cartons?
Find out which routes cause it and add corner guards on those first. We read your claims by route in the audit, but the packing and courier choices are yours to test.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
