Backpacker hostels · Local SEO

Show up on the map when a traveller standing in your town asks where to sleep tonight.

Local SEO for a backpacker hostel decides which properties appear when a traveller searches on Google Maps for a hostel near them or in a named town. GullySales works on the profile, the photos, the reviews and the facts that let the map choose your door.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What local SEO means

Local SEO is the work of making your business show up for searches that name your town or locality, such as a service plus an area name. GullySales sets up locality pages, local citations and map listings so nearby customers find you before a competitor across town.

For backpacker hostels

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The traveller is already walking”

Someone who arrives by overnight bus opens the map and taps the nearest hostel with a good rating. A profile with no recent photos or a hazy location pin loses that tap to a neighbour a street away.

  • “The pin has to match the gate”

Hostels sit up lanes, behind cafes and on upper floors. A pin a few metres off sends a tired guest to the wrong building, and the review that follows mentions the hunt for the entrance, not the stay.

  • “Reviews are read in the pack beside two rivals”

The map shows a few hostels at once, each with a rating and a handful of recent comments. A recent comment about a locked locker and a warm dorm decides the tap more than your own description.

  • “Hostel and cafe share one profile”

A hostel with a rooftop cafe lists only one of them. Guests who search for food find the cafe, guests who search for a bed find nothing, and the profile serves neither reader.

What we do

What we deliver for backpacker hostels.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A profile set up for a hostel

The right primary type, a plain description, dorm and private room details, check-in hours and the booking link, all written for a traveller arriving late.

Result: The profile answers the arrival questions before the first message.

  2. A pin and entrance guide

The map pin corrected, with photographs of the lane, the gate and the stairs and a one-line direction in the description.

Result: A guest finds the door without phoning reception.

  3. Photos by area of the property

Dorm, locker, bathroom, common room, kitchen and rooftop photographs added and dated, with the cleaning-routine spots shown plainly.

Result: Each part of the stay has a current photograph.

  4. A review ask at checkout and replies to every review

A QR card and a short WhatsApp message at departure, with a written reply for praise, for complaints and for the review that is wrong.

Result: Recent reviews come from guests who stayed, and each has a reply.

  5. Separate profiles where there are separate businesses

A distinct profile for the cafe or co-working space, kept apart from the hostel, with consistent names and phone lines.

Result: Searches for food, desks and beds each find the right listing.

How the result is measured

  • Map pack ranking
  • Local search visibility
  • Enquiries by locality

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who it is for

This is written for these backpacker hostels.

  • Hostels in backpacker hubs such as Goa, Manali, Rishikesh, Pushkar, Hampi and Varanasi
  • City hostels in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Jaipur used for transit
  • Hostels with a cafe, rooftop or co-working space
  • Female-only dorm and women-friendly hostels
  • Hostels for volunteers and long-stay remote workers
  • Hostels that host tours, treks and group trips
  • Hostels in hill towns used as bases for treks
  • Party and quiet hostels with a clearly different crowd

How it works

How the local SEO work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Audit every listing

We check the Google Business Profile and directory listings for every branch against what should actually be shown.

  2. 2

    Complete and correct

Profiles are filled in fully and inconsistent details are corrected across every directory found.

  3. 3

    Build location pages

Each branch gets a page written for its own area, not a copy of the head office page with the address changed.

  4. 4

    Set up review handling

A simple process for requesting and responding to reviews is put in place with whoever is closest to the customer.

  5. 5

    Report and adjust

Map actions and enquiries per branch are recorded, and the branches falling behind come first in the next round of work.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 1, prospecting and lead generation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Why does a hostel nearby rank above us?
Distance from the searcher, profile completeness, relevance and reviews all count. Compare their profile with yours on photos, recent reviews and the facts listed, and close those gaps first.
Can we pay Google to rank higher on the map?
Paid map placements exist as ads and are labelled as ads. They do not change the organic result. Fix the profile first, then judge whether an ad adds a booking.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
