Furniture stores and retailers · Referral marketing

Turn a well-furnished home into the next three referrals.

Referral marketing for a furniture store gives a satisfied customer a reason to recommend the store to the next person furnishing a home nearby. GullySales sets up the ask, the incentive and the tracking so referrals do not rely on memory.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For furniture stores and retailers

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The ask comes after delivery and installation”

A customer seeing their furniture set up and looking right is the most likely to recommend it that week.

  • “Point the reward at the room they have not furnished yet”

Furniture customers respond to an incentive tied to their next room or upgrade, matching how they reorder.

  • “Society groups carry referrals further”

A recommendation shared in a residents' WhatsApp group reaches more potential buyers than one mention.

What we do

What we deliver for furniture stores and retailers.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Post-delivery referral ask

A scripted ask sent right after delivery and installation, when a customer is most likely to recommend the store.

Result: A satisfied customer is asked to refer while satisfaction is highest.

  2. Next-order discount incentive

An incentive structured as a discount on the customer's next order or upgrade, matching how furniture customers reorder.

Result: A referring customer has a reason tied to their own next purchase.

  3. Referral code or name tracking

A simple referral code or name-at-showroom system so a referral is actually recorded.

Result: You know which customers are genuinely bringing in new business.

  4. Society and residents' group outreach

Coordinated sharing in residents' WhatsApp groups where a recommendation reaches many potential buyers at once.

Result: One recommendation reaches a whole group of neighbours.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals reach a furniture store

A furniture store is recommended when a home is furnished, and by the trades who furnish it.

Customers after the sofa is placed
Call after delivery and ask whether the sofa fits the room. If it does, ask the customer to mention the store to the friend who visits for the housewarming, and give them a card with the store address.
New flat handovers
New flat owners buy together. Ask a satisfied customer in the tower for the secretary's name, and offer a showroom visit for the residents' group.
Interior designers and carpenters
A designer buys loose furniture when the carpenter's budget stops short. Offer a trade price list and swatches of covering fabrics, and agree what the designer may show a client.
Packers, movers and rental agents
They hear about new tenants who need beds and wardrobes. Leave a flyer with your rental-furniture price list and delivery area.
Invoice copy
Ask who suggested the store at billing and write it on the invoice copy. Look for names that repeat on the delivery sheets.
What never to do
Never promise a referral reward on an order that is later cancelled or returned. Say in the offer when the reward is paid.

Who it is for

This is written for these furniture stores and retailers.

  • Modular kitchen and interior furniture retailers
  • Sofa and living room furniture stores
  • Bedroom and mattress retailers
  • Office furniture suppliers
  • Outdoor and garden furniture retailers
  • Custom carpentry and made-to-order furniture makers
  • Multi-brand furniture showrooms
  • Online-first furniture retailers

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Deliveries are still late and customers are unhappy, so asking them to refer would bring complaints, not friends.
  • You cannot track who referred whom, so a reward would start arguments.

How it works

How the referral marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

Read the margin and the relationship

We work out what a new customer is worth and what you can pay to get one, then check whether customers know others like themselves.

  2. 2

Find the referrals you already get

Your invoices, call notes and WhatsApp threads show who already sends people to you, and who they are. That sets the starting point and the first people to ask.

  3. 3

Write the offer and the rules

The reward, the definition of a valid referral and the payout steps are agreed in writing before anything is shown to customers.

  4. 4

Build the share path and the record

The message, the link or code and the referral sheet are built. Your team tests a referral end to end, from forward to reward.

  5. 5

Start with your best customers, then widen

The first asks go to people who have already praised you. What they say about the offer decides what changes before it reaches the wider base.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 7, after the sale. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

How do we track referrals?
A simple referral code or a name mentioned at the showroom is usually enough for most stores.
Does this work for a new store?
It works best with satisfied customers already; a new store needs the follow-up fixed first.
Should we ask for a referral if the delivery was late?
Sort the lateness first. Call the customer, apologise, and fix any damage or missing item. Ask only after the customer tells you they are comfortable with the sofa in their room. A referral request on top of an unresolved complaint reads as ignoring it.
What if a referred customer cancels after we have given the reward?
State in the offer that the reward is given after the order is delivered and paid for and the cancellation period has passed. Then there is nothing to take back. Print the rule on the card so staff and customers read the same words.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
