Keeping families in the districts from travelling to Kolkata or Vellore when Ranchi can treat them

What a Ranchi hospital should show a family from Gumla, Palamu or Chaibasa before they book the long train: named doctors, the equipment actually on site, cost ranges by ward, and one named person who answers the message.

A schoolteacher in Gumla has his uncle's scan report on his phone and two things open: a Ranchi hospital's urology page and the train timings to Vellore. The Ranchi page says "all urology procedures available" above a stock photograph. It does not say which doctor, which machines, or roughly what it costs. So he books the train. Keep that family in Jharkhand by putting the named doctors, the equipment on site and a cost range by ward on each department page. Then make one named person answer their message the same evening.

Why the family looks past Ranchi

Kolkata and Vellore come with a relative's story attached. Ranchi, to a family in Simdega or Lohardaga, is close but unknown, because its website has not said what the hospital can do.

Three gaps send families away: no doctor is named, nobody knows whether the scan machine is in the building, and nothing hints at whether the cost fits what the family can raise.

Write the equipment as the question it answers

A list of machines means little to a family. A sentence that answers their worry means a great deal. Write each item on the department page in the second column's words, and only when the third column is true.

What you have on siteHow the page says itThe family's question it answers
MRI and CT in the building"MRI and CT inside the hospital, open (hours)"Will we have to take him somewhere else for the scan?
A laser for kidney stones"Kidney stones treated with a laser in our own theatre"Is the treatment we read about available here?
A cath lab"Cath lab, with Dr (name) and Dr (name)"If his heart needs a procedure, is it done here?
An ICU with ventilators"(number)-bed ICU, with an intensivist on duty (hours)"If something goes wrong after surgery, is there an ICU here?

Only what is on site and working today goes on the page. A machine under repair comes off until it is fixed.

Doctors, and the languages they speak

Name each doctor on the department page, with qualifications as registered and the days they see new patients. The doctor page itself is covered in why families go to Delhi or Vellore instead of Patna. The Jharkhand addition is language. Families outside Ranchi speak Santhali, Ho, Mundari, Nagpuri or Khortha at home. If a doctor or nurse speaks one of them, say so on the page. A family from West Singhbhum that sees "speaks Ho" knows the bedside conversation will not need an interpreter.

Cost ranges by ward, with what moves them

What a hospital may publish about charges differs by state and body and changes, so have your adviser or the regulator's current rules read the wording before any range goes up. With that settled, district families choose the ward to fit the money. So give each common procedure a range for each ward category, with the stay it assumes and what pushes it up. A line on the urology page might read:

Laser removal of a kidney stone, one side. General ward ₹(range), semi-private ₹(range), private ₹(range). Assumes (days) in hospital. Includes the surgeon, theatre and ward medicines. Not included: extra days, a second procedure if needed, tests ordered after admission. Indicative only; the written estimate follows the urologist's review of the scan. Ayushman Bharat and other scheme cover is checked by the desk for your case. Ranges checked on (date).

Have your adviser check this wording before it is published; the box is a shape to fill, not approved text. Re-check the ranges whenever rates change, and change the date; families arrive with screenshots.

One person who owns the enquiry

A family that calls five times can reach five different people. Fix that first. The first person who answers owns the family until the patient is home, and gives their name and WhatsApp number in the first reply.

Send the WhatsApp button on every department page, and calls from the Google listing, to the coordinator's phone, not the switchboard. Name who covers lunch, the evening after OPD closes, and Sunday. Keep a log, one line per enquiry: time in, channel, district, department, time of first reply, owner's name. If the log shows messages waiting overnight, the cover has a hole. What the first call and the written plan should contain is set out in patients from Himachal and Punjab who call once and do not come.

Imagine a urology department off Bariatu Road

Imagine a private hospital off Bariatu Road with two urologists and a laser in its theatre. The details are illustrative.

The urology page listed eleven procedures and no names. The laser was not mentioned, because the page had been written before the machine arrived. The nephew in Gumla pressed the WhatsApp button at nine at night. It went to a switchboard phone that nobody checked until noon. He rang twice and got two different cost answers. He booked Vellore, and the department lost a stone case worth a few lakh rupees (an invented figure).

Nothing new was bought. The fix was editing and one long meeting about who answers the phone. The page now names both urologists and their days, carries the laser line and the ward ranges, and dates them. The WhatsApp button goes to the urology coordinator, with a named nurse covering evenings. Every enquiry goes in the log, and the coordinator who answers first keeps the family through discharge. The result was partial: of the first nine district enquiries after the change, the coordinator held two for admission and a third family still went to Vellore because a relative was a patient there. Sunday evening cover slipped twice in the first month, and the log showed it.

What never goes on the page

No "best in Jharkhand", no success figures, no patient stories as proof, no discount to decide faster, no comparison with a named hospital in Kolkata or Vellore. Rules on what hospitals and doctors may publish differ by state and body and change, so check with your own adviser or the regulator before a page goes live. Reviews from district families get a calm reply that never confirms a patient's details.

Press your own WhatsApp button at nine tonight

Open your three busiest department pages on a phone and check them against the equipment table and the ward ranges. Then press your own WhatsApp button at nine in the evening, as the nephew in Gumla would, and note who answers and when. Setting up the owner, the cover and the log is lead response and follow-up, and other Jharkhand towns are on the Jharkhand page. To start, tell us what you need.

Questions

Questions owners ask.

Can a hospital publish procedure prices on its website?
Indicative ranges can be shown where the rules allow, but what a hospital may publish, and how, depends on rules that differ by state and body and change. Have your adviser read the wording first. Whatever goes up, mark it indicative, date it, and say that the written estimate follows the doctor's assessment.
Do we need a separate Google listing for each department?
No, as a rule. One accurate profile for the hospital, with the right categories, hours and photographs of the entrance, does more than several thin ones. Doctors may have profiles of their own; check the platform's current rules, and keep each doctor's hours the same on the profile and on the page.
What should the coordinator say to a family already booked for Vellore?
Answer their questions plainly and leave the decision with them. If they ask, say what is done here, by whom, and roughly what it costs, and offer to look at the reports first. Do not run down the other hospital, and never offer a discount to change their mind.
