Readiness: the facts, the photographs and the owner
Gather the facts a buyer qualifies you on: processes and machines with their capacities, sizes and tolerances; materials; standards and certifications with validity; industries served with named customers where permitted; monthly capacity; lead times; quality process — inspection, first-article, reports. Photograph the real plant, the machines, the inspection bench, the parts, the team, in good light. Decide who owns the site — a sales engineer or the marketing lead — with the authority to add a page within a day and the duty to keep certifications current.
Ask a purchase engineer you know to use the current site to find your tolerance on a process and send an RFQ. Where they hesitate is the list.
1–6: structure products, applications, industries and technical resources
1. The first screen says what the unit makes, for whom, and the one or two facts that qualify it — “CNC machining and sheet-metal fabrication for OEMs, ISO 9001, to your drawing in ten working days.” 2. A page per process or product line — turning, milling, fabrication, coating, moulding, each machine family — with the machines, capacities, sizes, tolerances, materials and volumes, in the buyer’s vocabulary. 3. A page per application or industry served — automotive, pharma, food processing, infrastructure — saying what you make for it, to which standards, with the customers named where permitted. 4. Technical resources downloadable without a form: specification sheets, drawings, material certificates, the quality manual summary, the certification PDFs. 5. Navigation by what the buyer is looking for — process, product, industry, capability — not by the organisation chart. 6. A capability summary page a purchase engineer can print: everything from check 2 on one page.
Check 4 is contested by sales teams who want the form first. The buyer who cannot get the specification sends the RFQ to the unit whose specification they could get.
7–10: build credibility with capabilities, quality and verified proof
7. Real photographs and a short video from inside the plant — the machines running, the inspection bench, the packing — replacing every stock image. 8. Quality made visible: the process from drawing to dispatch, inspection equipment, first-article and test reports, the standards held, with the certificates viewable and dated. 9. Proof with names and numbers: customer logos where permitted, three or four case studies with the customer, the part, the volume and the problem solved, and a line on how long the relationship has lasted. 10. The people: the founder and the technical leads by name, with their background, because a buyer is deciding whether to trust an engineer, not a logo.
Together these pass the qualification check the buyer runs silently: is this a real plant, can it make my part, has it done so for someone like me, and who will I be dealing with?
11–15: design RFQ, distributor and technical-enquiry pathways
11. An RFQ path on every process and product page: a short form that accepts a drawing upload, quantity and required date, with the promise of a quote within a stated time, plus a tappable number and WhatsApp for the buyer who prefers to talk. 12. A distributor or partner page: the range, the territories open, what the unit offers a partner, and a way to apply — because distributors research a line before they call. 13. A technical-enquiry path for consultants and engineers: a named technical contact, an email and a number, and a promise of an answer within the day. 14. Response standards behind all three: the RFQ acknowledged within the hour, the quote within the stated time, the technical question answered by an engineer — with the enquiry written into the CRM with its source. 15. The site fast on a phone, indexed, titled by capability in the buyer’s words, with the Google Business Profile and the trade directories carrying the same identity, and call tracking so RFQs by source are counted.
Three readers, three paths, one response standard. A site that funnels the consultant, the distributor and the purchase engineer into one “contact us” form loses two of them.

Mistakes, and what a good manufacturer site does
The mistakes: one “products” page; stock photographs of a factory that is not yours; “solutions” where the buyer wanted tolerances; specifications behind a form; certifications listed without dates or PDFs; no RFQ path, only “contact us”; no distributor page; and a quote that takes a week. Questions owners ask
Should specifications be behind a form?
No. A purchase engineer who cannot get the specification sends the RFQ to the unit whose specification they could get. Make the sheets downloadable and capture the enquiry when they send the drawing.
How much should a manufacturer’s website cost?
It depends on the number of processes and applications, the content that has to be written from your facts, and the RFQ and catalogue functions. Compare quotations on what is itemised — content, pages, integrations — not on the total.
Do we need a product catalogue with prices?
For standard products sold to the trade, a catalogue with specifications and a price list or a route to one, yes. For made-to-drawing work, capability pages and an RFQ path do the job; prices depend on the drawing.
Can we name our customers?
With permission, yes, and it is the strongest proof you have. Ask; most industrial customers agree to a logo or a case study that makes them look competent. Describe the sector where they decline.
How fast should we respond to an RFQ from the site?
Acknowledge within the hour, quote within a day where the drawing allows, and say on the site what the standard is. The unit that quotes first is usually shortlisted.
