Colleges and universities · Buyer persona

Write for the student who chooses and the parent who pays, in the same message.

A buyer persona for a college is a written profile of the people who decide on a seat: the applicant, the parent or guardian, and the person who advised them. GullySales builds the profiles from your own admission register and counsellor notes, then shapes pages and scripts around them.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What buyer persona means

A buyer persona is a plain description of the kind of customer who actually buys from you. It includes what they search, what worries them and who else they ask before deciding. GullySales builds this from real enquiries and past sales rather than a generic template, then uses it to write every page and advert.

Last updated 6 Oct 2026. Rules for this trade differ by state and professional body, and they change. We describe restrictions in general terms, so check the current position with your own council or adviser before you publish anything.

For colleges and universities

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The student picks the course and the parent signs the cheque”

An applicant compares campus life, placements and the programme. The parent asks about the fee, hostel safety, loan options and the college's approval. A page that answers only one of them loses the other at the shortlist.

  • “A degree college and a business school do not share a buyer”

A Class 12 applicant for a commerce degree, a graduate weighing a PGDM and a working executive eyeing an evening programme ask different questions, carry different budgets and decide on different timelines. One brochure cannot serve all three.

  • “The advisor outside the family is part of the decision”

A school teacher, a tuition teacher, a senior who studied at your college or a relative in the same profession shapes the shortlist. Admissions teams who record only the applicant lose sight of who is actually persuading the family.

  • “An out-of-town family and a local day scholar worry about different things”

The out-of-town family asks about the hostel, food, travel home and who to call in an emergency. The local family asks about the commute and timetable. Treating both as one enquirer produces a reply that fits neither.

What we do

What we deliver for colleges and universities.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Persona sheets built from the admission register

We read last cycle's admitted and lost applicants and write a sheet for each programme group: who applied, who decided, what they asked and why some chose elsewhere.

Result: You can compare each sheet with your own memory of the cycle and correct it.

  2. A question list for every persona

The questions each person asks, in their words, taken from counsellor notes, call recordings you hold and portal messages.

Result: Your counsellors see the exact questions they have been answering informally.

  3. Counsellor talk tracks by persona

Short guides for the first call and the campus visit, written for the student, the parent and the advisor in turn.

Result: A new counsellor can follow the same conversation structure as your best one.

  4. A message map for programme pages

A page-by-page note on which concerns to answer first, which proof to show and which fee details to state plainly.

Result: Each programme page has a written reason for its order of content.

  5. A decision-maker field on the enquiry record

Fields recording who called, who will pay and who advised, so follow-up goes to the right person.

Result: Every enquiry shows who decides, not only who filled the form.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiry match to persona
  • Conversion rate by persona
  • Content aligned to persona

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the buyer persona work runs

  1. 1

    Understand the current view

We start with how your team currently describes the customer, since the gap between belief and reality is often the finding itself.

  2. 2

    Audit past enquiries and sales

We look at recent enquiries and closed deals to see who actually bought, not who was assumed to buy.

  3. 3

    Interview customers and staff

Short, structured conversations surface the real language, worries and triggers behind a purchase.

  4. 4

    Build the personas

Findings are written into short, usable persona documents rather than a long report.

  5. 5

    Apply to your marketing

We show exactly where each persona should change a page, an ad or a script you already have.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

How many personas should a college have?
One set for each programme group that attracts a different family. A college with an engineering stream, a nursing programme and a postgraduate business course will need separate sheets for each, and a small college may need only two or three.
Do we need to interview students and parents?
Interviews help, but the admission register and counsellor notes already hold most of what you need. Where you do speak to admitted families, ask permission, explain the purpose and keep the notes free of anything a family would not want shared.
Can a persona sheet name actual students?
No. Describe the type of applicant, not a person. Names and personal details of students, especially those under 18, should stay in the admissions record, and data protection rules on children's information are still being settled, so take legal advice.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
