Banks · Upselling and cross-selling

Offer the insurance product that actually fits, not whatever is being pushed this month.

Upselling and cross-selling for a bank means offering a genuinely relevant additional product, insurance, a mutual fund, a credit card, based on an actual customer need. It is not a blanket push of whatever the bank wants to sell that month. GullySales helps build this around real relevance to protect trust.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What upselling and cross-selling means

Upselling and cross-selling means offering an existing customer a higher-value version or a related product at the right moment. It differs from retention because the aim is a bigger order, not just a repeat one. GullySales identifies which customers are ready for this offer and when to make it.

For banks

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Relevance protects the relationship, a blanket push damages it”

A customer offered a product that genuinely fits their situation, such as a term insurance plan after taking a home loan, experiences this as helpful. An unrelated, poorly matched offer feels like a hard sell and erodes trust.

  • “Timing a cross-sell to a life event improves both fit and reception”

Offering a child education plan shortly after a customer opens an account for a newborn's name is both more relevant and better received. The same offer made at a random time lands far less well.

  • “Staff need to understand the product to sell it appropriately”

A relationship manager who cannot clearly explain an insurance or investment product's actual terms and risks should not be pushed to sell it purely to meet a target. That creates both a compliance risk and a trust risk.

What we do

What we deliver for banks.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Life-event cross-sell triggers

A rule offering a relevant product, such as term insurance after a home loan or an education plan after a birth, tied to the actual event.

Result: An offer arrives at the moment it is genuinely likely to matter.

  2. Fit-based offer rules

A rule limiting a cross-sell offer to products that genuinely match a customer's actual situation, not a blanket push.

Result: A customer experiences an offer as helpful, not as a hard sell.

  3. Product training before a target is set

A requirement that staff can clearly explain a product's terms and risks before being asked to sell it.

Result: A product is sold only by someone who can explain it properly.

  4. Compliance-approved product list

A confirmed list of products your compliance and product teams have approved for cross-selling.

Result: Staff only ever offer something the bank has actually cleared.

How the result is measured

  • Additional revenue per customer
  • Offer acceptance rate
  • Average order value change

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Questions before a second offer

Ask these six questions before you offer an existing customer another product.

Does the customer already have this elsewhere?
Ask what insurance, investments or cards they hold today. Offering a cover they already have shows you have not listened.
What did the customer tell you the first product was for?
A home loan, a child's account or a business current account each point to a different need. Link the second offer to what he said, not to what is on the bank's list this month.
Can the customer afford it comfortably?
Look at what he already repays. If another payment would strain him, do not offer it. A product that lapses or is returned costs the customer and the bank.
Are you authorised to sell this product?
Rules on selling insurance and investment products differ by product and change over time. Sell only what you are trained and authorised for, and refer the rest to the specialist.
Has the customer been told the terms and the risks in plain words?
Explain what it costs, what it covers or does not, and what could go wrong. Give it in writing in a language he reads, and do not hurry the decision.
Have you said it is optional?
Tell the customer clearly that saying no has no effect on his existing loan or account. Then note his answer, and respect it.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the upselling and cross-selling work runs

  1. 1

    Map opportunity across the base

A review of existing customers against your product range to identify genuine upsell and cross-sell potential.

  2. 2

    Define readiness triggers

Signals identified that indicate the right moment to make a specific offer.

  3. 3

    Build and deliver the pitch

Offers framed and delivered at the identified trigger points, through the right channel for each customer.

  4. 4

    Track and refine

Take-up tracked by offer and trigger, refining timing and messaging over time.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

How do we avoid cross-selling feeling like a hard sell?
By training staff to offer only genuinely relevant products, tied to an actual customer need or life event, rather than a fixed monthly target regardless of fit.
What products are appropriate to cross-sell?
Ones your compliance and product teams have approved for cross-selling, explained accurately and matched to the customer's actual situation.
A customer said no to insurance. Can we ask again?
Record the no and the reason. Ask again only when his situation changes, such as a new loan, a child or retirement, and not at every visit. Repeated asking is what customers describe as a hard sell.
Which products can any counter staff member offer?
Only those the person is trained and authorised for. Rules differ by product and are set by the bank's compliance team, so find out which products need a certified person and refer customers to that colleague.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
