InsurTech startups · WhatsApp marketing

Use WhatsApp to answer coverage questions, with the buyer's consent on record.

WhatsApp marketing for an InsurTech startup means using the business app and approved message templates to send quotes, answer questions and remind customers about renewals. GullySales sets up the flows, the consent record and the hand-over to a licensed person.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What WhatsApp marketing means

WhatsApp marketing is sending updates, offers and reminders to customers on the app most Indian buyers already check daily. GullySales sets up business WhatsApp, writes the message templates and keeps the list consented and current.

For InsurTech startups

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Your buyers already ask on WhatsApp”

A rider or a parent prefers a chat to a form, and sends the question where they are comfortable. A reply arriving in the same thread, with the quote attached, feels like service rather than sales.

  • “Consent must be asked for, not assumed”

A phone number from a quote form is not automatic permission for promotional messages. Capture an explicit opt-in with clear wording, record it, and offer a simple way to stop messages.

  • “Templates limit what can be sent”

Business messaging platforms require approved templates for outbound messages, and their rules change. Draft templates early, keep insurance claims out of them, and check the platform's current rules before launch.

  • “A chatbot cannot give advice”

An automated flow can collect details and answer set questions. Advice on which policy suits a family belongs to a licensed person, so the flow needs a clear point of hand-over.

What we do

What we deliver for InsurTech startups.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Business account set-up

Profile, catalogue of common questions and quick replies set up on the WhatsApp Business platform you use.

Result: The account shows your registered details and a clear greeting.

  2. Opt-in capture and record

Wording and placement for permission requests, stored against each contact.

Result: Each contact shows when and how they agreed.

  3. Template pack

Quote, document-request, payment and renewal templates, written for each language and passed by your compliance officer.

Result: Templates are ready for platform approval.

  4. Hand-over flow

Rules for moving a chat from automation to a licensed person.

Result: A buyer asking for advice reaches a human.

  5. Chat log review

A sample of conversations read for wrong answers and missed questions.

Result: Gaps in answers are listed for fixing.

How the result is measured

  • Messages delivered
  • Reply rate
  • Enquiries from WhatsApp

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

What to capture or send

Plan the messages you will send and the consent behind each.

Opt-in at the quote step
Ask for permission on the quote form, record the wording shown and the time, and make it easy to stop.
Answer to a coverage question
Send a short written answer drawn from the approved library, with a link to the policy wording.
Document request
Ask for the form or ID the proposal needs, naming the step so the buyer knows why it is needed.
Renewal reminder
Send the reminder using an approved template with the date and the one action the buyer must take.
Hand-off to a person
Send a note that a named advisor will call, so the buyer expects the number and the reason.

Who it is for

This is written for these InsurTech startups.

  • Online health and term insurance seller startups working as corporate agents or brokers
  • Micro-insurance startups for gig and blue-collar workers
  • Embedded insurance startups selling through apps and merchants
  • Group health and employee benefits platform startups
  • Motor and two-wheeler insurance renewal startups
  • Claims-processing and policy-servicing technology startups
  • Insurance comparison and advisory startups
  • Parametric and crop insurance technology startups

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You have not cleared your template wording with your compliance officer, so every message would be a risk.
  • Your old quote list has no recorded consent, so a first broadcast would reach people who never agreed to hear from you.

How it works

How the whatsapp marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

Read the chats you already have

We read how customers write to you, which questions repeat and where a chat goes quiet. The repeated questions decide what gets automated first.

  2. 2

Sort the list and the permission

Contacts who asked to hear from you are separated from numbers that only sit in a phone book. We agree the wording new contacts will see before they say yes.

  3. 3

Choose the app or the API

One phone and a small team can stay on the ordinary app. Several people on one number, templates or a CRM link need the API through a provider, which is its own piece of setup work.

  4. 4

Write the replies and the plan

The greeting, away message, saved replies and handover rule are written in your words and approved by you. The message plan and its templates follow.

  5. 5

    Connect the record and test

Each link carries its source line and each chat lands in the CRM. We test on real phones, including a customer who asks for a person.

  6. 6

    Read the unanswered questions

A question the first reply could not answer becomes a new saved reply or a fixed handover. Stop requests are watched too, with the number's quality rating where the API is used, since both show a message plan that has gone too far.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 0, foundation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Can we message our old quote list?
Only where those people agreed to hear from you in this way. Ask your compliance officer to review the consent you hold, and do not message anyone who has not agreed.
Should claims be handled on WhatsApp?
It can carry updates and document requests, but treat it with care for personal data. Decide with your compliance officer which details may travel in chat.
Should claims be handled on WhatsApp?
Use it to tell a customer which steps to take and who to call, not to carry claim documents unless your insurer partner approves the route. Claims carry health and financial details, and the insurer sets how they are received. Check the insurer's current process and the platform's rules.
What happens when a buyer says stop?
The person is removed from every message list the same day the request arrives, and the record shows when and how. Keeping to the request is both a courtesy and a legal duty. Ask your compliance officer how long to keep the opt-out record.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
