News media companies · Lead generation

Find the advertisers and subscribers your readership already points to.

Lead generation for a news media company is the work of bringing in two kinds of enquiry: an advertiser who wants space and a reader who wants to pay. GullySales works on the sources of each enquiry, the page or message that catches it and the record that keeps it from being lost.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What lead generation means

Lead generation is the combined work of every channel that brings in a new enquiry, whether from search, adverts, referrals or a stall at an exhibition. GullySales runs these channels together and reports the number of enquiries each one produced, not the activity behind it.

For news media companies

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Advertisers are already named in your own pages”

The jeweller who buys a full page every Dasara, the school that sponsors the results supplement and the builder who appears in your classifieds are leads you hold today. Few outlets list them with last campaign and next season, so the next call starts from memory.

  • “An enquiry arrives on whichever channel the advertiser prefers”

A shop owner sends a WhatsApp message, a planner fills the website form and a builder rings the front desk. When each lands in a different place, one quote is chased twice and another is never answered.

  • “Readers who share a story are warmer than any cold list”

The reader who forwards a council report to a neighbourhood group has already shown trust in your reporting. A plain invitation under the story to follow the channel or subscribe reaches them while they are reading.

  • “A lead from an agency needs different proof from a lead from a shop”

The local retailer wants to know whether the readers live nearby. The agency planner wants an audience page with sources and dates. One pitch sent to both convinces neither.

What we do

What we deliver for news media companies.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A list of advertisers already in your pages

Every name from the last year of print, portal and video sponsorship, with the formats they bought and the festival they chose.

Result: A sheet the ad team can ring from, sorted by next season.

  2. One place where every enquiry lands

The website form, WhatsApp number and phone enquiries are logged in a single record with the source noted.

Result: You can see which channel each advertiser used.

  3. A reader invitation under the story

A short, honest line and link placed under stories readers share most, inviting them to follow or subscribe.

Result: The invitation sits where readers already stop.

  4. Two pitch versions

One for local shops, schools and builders and one for agencies, each built on the audience facts that buyer checks.

Result: The ad team has a matching pitch before a call.

  5. A source tag on every new lead

Each advertiser or subscriber is recorded with where they came from, so later counts compare like with like.

Result: Starting figures show where leads originated.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiries generated
  • Cost per enquiry
  • Enquiries by source

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

What to capture or send

An advertiser enquiry should record who asked and what space they want.

Business name and what it sells
A jeweller, a coaching class and a hospital need different space and wording. Note the trade so the pitch uses a local example.
Format asked: print, portal, video or radio
The advertiser may want a festival supplement or a pinned banner. Record the format so the quote starts from the right rate card line.
Date or festival the ad must run
Festival and exam seasons set the deadline. Record the date at once so the booking is chased before the space is sold out.
Who decides: owner, manager or agency
An agency planner wants an audience summary, an owner wants a price and a sample. Record the role before choosing the pitch.
Where the lead came from
Reader share, agency, walk-in or a rival's advertiser list. The tag shows which source brings advertisers who actually book.

Who it is for

This is written for these news media companies.

  • Regional and district newspapers
  • Local news websites and portals
  • YouTube news channels
  • Local cable and digital television news outlets
  • Community radio and local radio news
  • Language-specific news apps and WhatsApp channels
  • Business, trade and sector-specific news publishers
  • Magazines with a news and current affairs focus

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You have no rate card or audience summary, so every enquiry would be answered with a guess.
  • One person holds all advertiser contacts, and a lead register would depend on that person filling it.
  • Your editorial side objects to ad copy that looks like news, which needs settling before sponsored leads are sought.

How it works

How the lead generation work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Understand your capacity

We ask how many enquiries your team can answer well, who answers after hours, and what a good enquiry looks like. Without this, the system fills a funnel nobody is watching.

  2. 2

    Audit current sources

We read your call log, WhatsApp chats, enquiry sheet and platform dashboards. The baseline is recorded: enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order.

  3. 3

    Strategise the channel mix

Search and maps are chosen for people ready to buy, ads for people who are not yet looking, and content and referrals for trust.

  4. 4

    Implement capture and follow-up

Pages, forms, tags, the lead record and the first-reply message are built and tested end to end. We submit test enquiries ourselves before any media money is spent.

  5. 5

    Measure and optimise

Enquiries are traced to source and judged by what became orders, not by volume alone. Channels that fill the sheet with poor enquiries are cut back. How often you are reported to is agreed in writing.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 1, prospecting and lead generation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Where do the first advertiser leads come from?
From your own archive. Past advertisers across print, portal and video are the warmest names you hold, and a list built from them costs nothing but an afternoon with the ad team.
Should we buy lead lists of businesses?
Bought lists carry no relationship with your readers. Local businesses in your readership area, found by walking the market and reading your own classifieds, are closer to a buyer and easier to visit.
Is a subscriber a lead or a customer?
Treat a reader who asks to follow or subscribe as a lead until the first payment clears. Record the date and the story or message that brought them.
How do we find advertisers without buying a list?
Read your own pages. Businesses already appear in your stories, classifieds and event coverage, and they know your name. A short note to them with a rate card and a sample is a warmer start than a bought list of strangers.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
