News media companies · Social media

Turn a story that travels on social into a reader who comes back.

Social media marketing for a news media company is the use of YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X to bring readers to your reporting and to show advertisers a live audience. GullySales works on the posting pattern, the route from a post to your own channel and the figures you show advertisers.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What social media means

Social media is the ongoing posting your business does on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn to stay visible to customers and prospects between purchases. GullySales plans a posting calendar, writes captions and designs the images so the page looks active and answers what a visitor would ask.

For news media companies

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “A post earns attention and the platform keeps the reader”

A clip views well on a video platform and the viewer never reaches your site or your channel. Every post needs one clear next step, such as the WhatsApp channel or the topic page.

  • “Each platform holds a different reader”

The older reader follows on Facebook and in family groups. The student watches short video. The professional reads on X. One post pasted everywhere satisfies none of them.

  • “Breaking news and explainers need different posts”

A breaking alert wants a plain line and a link. An explainer wants a video or carousel that makes sense without clicking. Mixed together, readers cannot tell what to expect from your page.

  • “Advertisers look at your social pages before they call”

A planner opens your channel to see whether it is active, local and clean. Stale pages, unanswered comments and old promotions weaken the pitch before a word is spoken.

What we do

What we deliver for news media companies.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A platform-by-platform role

What each platform is for in your outlet and who it reaches, written down so posts stop being copied across.

Result: One line per platform that the desk can follow.

  2. A post format for alerts and one for explainers

A fixed look for each type, so a reader knows what a post is before opening it.

Result: Two formats the desk reuses without new design work.

  3. A next step on every post

A link, a WhatsApp channel invitation or a topic page placed in each post by design.

Result: No post ends without a place for the reader to go.

  4. A comment handling note

Which comments the desk answers, which are moderated and who decides, in line with your editorial policy.

Result: Moderation does not depend on whoever is online.

  5. An advertiser-facing audience page

Followers and views by platform, taken from each platform's own analytics with the date shown.

Result: A page an advertiser can check against the platform.

  6. Starting figures by platform

Followers, views and link clicks recorded at the start of work.

Result: Later numbers sit beside a dated baseline.

How the result is measured

  • Posts published
  • Engagement rate
  • Enquiries from social profiles

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Posts and pieces to plan

Each platform carries a different reader and a different kind of post.

Breaking alert with a link back
A short text and image post for a developing story, ending with the link to the page where the full report lives.
Explainer card or carousel
A visual summary of a long local story, such as a budget or a bus route change, which readers save and share.
Short video from the field
A reporter's clip at the site with a clear caption, posted with the link, which suits readers who prefer video.
Behind-the-story post
A post showing how a story was reported, which builds trust and gives advertisers a view of the newsroom.
Advertiser-facing audience post
A post that shows the kinds of readers you reach, with figures only from your own analytics tools.

Who it is for

This is written for these news media companies.

  • Regional and district newspapers
  • Local news websites and portals
  • YouTube news channels
  • Local cable and digital television news outlets
  • Community radio and local radio news
  • Language-specific news apps and WhatsApp channels
  • Business, trade and sector-specific news publishers
  • Magazines with a news and current affairs focus

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Your journalists have no guidance on what to post from personal accounts, which should be settled first.
  • You plan to sell sponsorship of a series before you have run one, and advertisers would buy a promise.
  • No one handles comments, and an unmoderated thread on a news post can become a problem.

How it works

How the social media work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Confirm audience, platforms and access

We note which platforms your buyers use and check that the pages sit under your own business accounts, with you as owner and us as added roles.

  2. 2

    Review the current presence

We read the existing pages, the posts that drew replies and the gaps in posting.

  3. 3

    Build the calendar

Themes, formats and dates are set out for your approval, with space for offers and news.

  4. 4

    Create, approve and publish

Posts are made, approved by you and scheduled. Replies to the public are handled in your voice.

  5. 5

    Record enquiries and adjust

Enquiries are logged against the post or platform where they began, and the mix changes to follow what brings them.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 0, foundation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Should every journalist post from a personal account?
That is an editorial decision for you. If you allow it, set the rules on what may be shared and how the outlet is named, so the audience builds around the brand.
Is short video worth it for a local outlet?
Test it with one recurring local explainer and count the clicks to your own channel. Keep it if readers arrive, drop it if they only watch.
Can we sell sponsorship of a social series?
Yes, if the series has a clear format and the sponsor is told what it gets. Check the platform's current rules on paid partnerships before you sell it.
How should we handle abusive comments on news posts?
Set a written comment policy, hide or remove abuse and report threats to the platform, using its current rules. Assign a named person to moderate. Leaving a thread open without moderation exposes the outlet and its staff.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
