Advertising to Delhi when your school or hotel is in Dehradun or Haridwar
How a Dehradun boarding school or a Haridwar hotel should aim its Google and Meta ads at Delhi NCR families, and what its page must tell them about the trip and who answers.

On this page
The parent choosing a boarding school in Dehradun lives in Gurugram or Vasant Kunj. The family booking a Haridwar hotel for a Sunday snan at Har Ki Pauri lives in Rohini or Noida. If your ads run around your own town and your page talks to locals, you are paying to reach people who were never the buyer. Aim the ads at Delhi NCR. Then send them to one page written for the Delhi family. It says how to reach you, when to come, who answers the evening call, and what the trip costs in time.
Who searches for you, and from where?
Two kinds of Delhi buyer reach a business in Dehradun or Haridwar, and they search differently.
The boarding school parent starts wide, typing "boarding school near Delhi for class 6" or "CBSE residential school in the hills", not your town's name. By the time "Dehradun" is typed, the shortlist may already have four names. If your ads appear only for searches that name your town, you meet the parent at the very end. Our note on increasing school admissions covers the admission calendar.
The Haridwar family searches narrow and late: "hotel near Har Ki Pauri with parking", on a Thursday night, for Saturday. They choose between three hotels on distance, photographs and whoever replies first; what a pilgrim family checks has its own post.
Both are in Delhi when they search, not in Dehradun or Haridwar, where a campaign set to your own town points. More on the state is on our Uttarakhand page.
Aim the ads where the family is sitting
On Google Ads, the location setting decides who sees you. The platform lets you choose between people who are in a place and people who show interest in it. For this campaign, pick people who are in Delhi NCR, plus any cities that already send you families, such as Meerut or Chandigarh. Check the current wording when you set it up.
Then match the ad to how far along the family is.
- Families already searching, like the Haridwar weekend crowd and the parent comparing schools, belong to search ads. Start there, because their decision is half made.
- A parent whose child is in class 4 at a Delhi day school has not begun to search. Meta ads with a short video of a school day, or the morning walk down to the ghat, can put you on the family's list before the search begins.
- On a budget for one campaign only, run search.
The Delhi page, block by block
Every ad lands on one page written for the visitor from Delhi NCR, never on the home page. Draft it yourself in an afternoon, in this order:
- A heading that names them. "For families coming from Delhi NCR" tells the parent in Gurugram this page is for them.
- Getting here, honestly. The road route and how long it takes on an ordinary day and on a holiday weekend. The nearest station and how to get from it to you. For a Dehradun school, flights into Jolly Grant. For a Haridwar hotel, one line on the Kanwar Yatra diversions and the weeks they apply.
- When to come. Campus visit days and the dates of the admission interaction. For the hotel, check-in times, and what happens when a family leaves Delhi at 5 pm and arrives near midnight.
- Someone with a name and a number. Who answers on WhatsApp and by phone, and until what time. Working parents may ring after 8 pm. If your admissions head meets parents in Delhi, put those dates here.
- The trip, measured in time. Can a parent see the campus and drive back the same day? Can a guest fit the evening aarti and a morning in Rishikesh into one weekend?
- Fees or rates, stated plainly. A school says where the fee structure sits and offers it on WhatsApp. A hotel gives the room rate for the dates the ad runs and what it includes. Do not show a rate you cannot hold.
- A short form. Name, phone, the class or the dates, and "Which city are you coming from?" That last field is how you will know whether the campaign worked.
If you try a Delhi newspaper advertisement, give it its own number or WhatsApp link so you can count what it brings.
A Dehradun school that advertised to its own town
Imagine a co-educational boarding school off Rajpur Road in Dehradun. The details are illustrative. It ran Meta ads to everyone within 40 km of the campus, linked to the home page. Enquiries came in, but most were local parents asking about day-scholar seats, which the school did not offer. The few Delhi parents who clicked found a landline ringing in an empty office after 4 pm.
The school changed three things. It moved the budget to Delhi NCR and added search ads for "boarding school near Delhi" and its variants. It built the Delhi page, with campus visit Saturdays and the two weekends its admissions head would meet parents in South Delhi. And it put a WhatsApp number on the page that the admissions officer answered in the evening. In the next admission season the school could see how many enquiries came from Delhi and how many of those families visited. Total enquiries fell, because the day-scholar queries stopped, and the first search month cost more than the Meta ads it replaced.
The same change suits a Haridwar hotel near Har Ki Pauri that has been buying clicks around its own town. Its Delhi page would lead with the drive on an ordinary Saturday and in Kanwar week, the parking, a room rate for the dates it can hold, and a WhatsApp number that is answered.
One caution for schools: what an advertisement may claim about results, boards or facilities is regulated. Check with your own adviser or the regulator before the page goes live, and leave out "best" and every rank claim.
When a Delhi campaign is the wrong spend
Skip it if most of your students are day scholars from Dehradun, or most of your guests walk in from the bus stand. Your buyer is local.
Skip it if nobody can answer the evening call. A Delhi parent who rings at 8.30 pm and hears nothing may ring the next school on the list. Fix the reply before you buy a click.
Hold the hotel budget in weeks that fill anyway, such as the Kanwar Yatra, and spend on ordinary weekends, when a Delhi family is still choosing.
Count last season's enquiries by city
Go back through last season's enquiries and write down the city each one came from, even roughly, and count the Delhi NCR ones. If there are only a handful, ask why: no Delhi ads, or Delhi families who rang once and heard nothing. For the Delhi page (landing page development) and the campaigns pointed at it, tell us what you need.
