Air conditioners and coolers online: timing, pin codes and the installation promise
When an online air conditioner and cooler seller should be ready in each city, why the installation slot sells the unit in a heat wave, and how a pin code register stops promises you cannot keep.

The review that hurts an air conditioner seller arrives in the first hot week: delivered on Monday, still in its box on Friday, nobody came to fit it. It was earned weeks earlier. Win the season by placing stock near each city before its heat arrives and counting installer slots pin code by pin code. Then show the earliest fitting date before the buyer pays. In a heat wave, the unit that can be fitted on Saturday beats the cheaper one. Coolers need no fitter and follow a different clock.
Why does the season start on a different day in each city?
There is no national AC season. In the south and the centre, the heat and the enquiries arrive earlier than in Delhi or Lucknow, and the north asks later and harder. Coastal buyers in Mumbai and Kochi ask about humidity and dry mode as much as about cooling.
So plan by city. Your own order history is the best calendar you have. Export last season's orders with pin code and order date, and mark the day each city went from a trickle to a queue. That day, minus the time it takes to move stock to the nearest warehouse, is when the stock must already be sitting there.
Ads come last, and they follow the same calendar. Build one campaign per city before the season and keep them all paused. Switch a city on when its searches and daily orders start to climb. Pull it back when the earliest fitting date there slips past your limit, which the register below gives you. A national campaign from one date pays for clicks in cities that are still comfortable. See festive and seasonal advertising for the related service.
The installation slot sells the unit in a heat wave
When the bedroom is unbearable, price comes second. The first question is 'Can you fit it by the weekend?' and the second is 'What will the fitter charge on the day?'
The full site check for a split unit is in our post on what a local appliance seller can offer against the marketplaces. One line of it matters most on an AC listing: extra copper pipe. Standard installation covers a set length, which differs by brand and installer. A flat on a high floor with the outdoor unit on the terrace needs more, and the technician charges it at the door. Print the rate per metre beside 'standard installation'. A buyer who read 'free installation' hears that bill as a trick.
Then decide who is making the promise. If your own team or a partner technician fits the unit, you control the slot. If the brand's service network fits it, the slot depends on a queue you cannot see, so the listing should say 'installation by the brand, date set by the brand'. Signing up partner fitters by pin code is worked through for tyre sellers in this post on fitting partners, and the same checklist suits AC technicians. What an AC seller must add is a count.
Count the fitter slots every evening
A partner list tells you where you can fit. It does not tell you when, and in a heat wave every seller in town is calling the same technicians. So keep one sheet, updated every evening of the season, with the free fitter slots for the next three days in each pin code group. Here is an illustrative register for a multi-brand dealer in Nagpur selling on its own site and on a marketplace.
| Pin code group | Who fits | Free fitter slots, next three days | Earliest fitting | What the listing promises | Ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Central Nagpur | Own two-person teams | 14 | Day after delivery | Fitted the day after delivery | On |
| Outer Nagpur and Hingna | Partner technician | 5 | Three days | Fitting date confirmed on a call | On, lower bids |
| Wardha | Brand installer | Not known | Not known | Installation by the brand | Off in a heat wave |
| Amravati | Nobody yet | 0 | None | Not offered | Off |
The rule that goes with it: when the earliest fitting date in a group is later than buyers there will accept, stop advertising in that group and change the listing. Set your own limit. Three days is a sensible place to start in a heat wave; move it as your own cancellations tell you.
Window and portable units can stay off the sheet. Splits cannot.
Coolers sell on a different clock
An air cooler is bought fast and switched on the same evening. No fitter, no pipe. The questions are about the tank in litres, the room size, honeycomb pads against wood wool, and whether the carton can go up three floors with no lift.
Coolers work by evaporation, so they do the most in dry heat and the least in humid air. Rajasthan, Gujarat, the Delhi belt and Vidarbha buy through the dry months, and demand falls away with the monsoon. A cooler campaign aimed at Chennai or Mumbai in their sticky weeks buys clicks and then returns. So say plainly on a coastal listing that a cooler cools less when the air is humid. That line costs a few orders. It also saves the refunds.
Imagine the first hot week without a count
Imagine the Nagpur dealer in its first online season, before it kept the sheet. Every listing promised 'fitted the day after delivery', and the ads ran at full from the first hot day. Its two teams could finish only so many splits a day, and by the weekend the queue in central Nagpur ran close to a week. Wardha orders carried the same promise, though only the brand's installers worked there. The reviews named the dealer, not the brand.
In the second hot week the dealer started the evening count. When central Nagpur showed no free slot for three days, the listing changed to 'fitting date confirmed on a call' and the bids came down until the queue cleared. A desk rang every order the same day and booked a slot from the technicians' calendar. Wardha buyers now read, before paying, that the brand would set its own fitting date.
What to do before the first hot week
Pull last season's orders by pin code and date. Then write down everyone who can fit a unit for you, with the jobs each can do in a day. Those two lists give you the city calendar, the register and the promises your listings can keep. Air conditioners sit beside every other online category in our e-commerce section. If you want the register, the listings and the city campaigns ready before the heat, with the same-day call handled as lead response and follow-up, tell us what you need.
