Readiness: identity, ownership and the rules
Decide the clinic’s one identity — exact name as on the signboard, address as India Post writes it, one main number, the website — and the doctors who will have profiles of their own, with their names and qualifications exactly as registered. Name the owner of the profile and the pages: the administrator or the practice manager, with the login in the clinic’s account. Name the person who asks for reviews: the receptionist or the doctor, at the moment the patient is relieved.
The professional code: doctors may not solicit or claim superiority; a clinic may inform. Every item below is information — what, who, where, when, how to book — which is what the code allows and what patients want.
1–5: standardise clinic, doctor, specialty and location information
1. Name, address and phone are identical on the website, the Google Business Profile, Practo, JustDial, insurance panels and every directory — audited and corrected. 2. Each doctor’s name, qualification and specialty are written the same way everywhere, matching the register. 3. The specialties and treatments are listed as patients search them — “root canal”, “knee replacement”, “skin allergy” — not only as the department is named internally. 4. The website contact page carries the full address with PIN, the tappable number, WhatsApp, hours including which days each doctor sits, and a map; the footer repeats the address on every page. 5. LocalBusiness or MedicalClinic structured data on the site states the same identity, hours and geo-coordinates, with each doctor as a Physician entity where the site has doctor pages.
Item 2 is the one clinics miss: a doctor listed as “Dr. R. Kumar” on the site, “Rakesh Kumar MDS” on the profile and “Dr Kumar” on Practo reads to Google as three people.
6–10: improve profiles, service pages, reviews and local relevance
6. The clinic’s Google Business Profile is claimed, verified, with the right primary category — “Dental clinic”, “Dermatologist”, “Physiotherapy centre” — and secondary categories for the specialties; services listed individually; hours correct; the description plain. 7. Each doctor who consults regularly has their own profile, linked to the clinic, with qualification and hours. 8. Real photographs — the frontage, the reception, the consulting rooms, the equipment, the team — a dozen at least, added monthly; no stock images. 9. A page per treatment on the site: what it is, for whom, what a visit involves, how many visits, roughly what decides the cost, the doctor who does it, the area served named in the text, and the five questions patients ask answered plainly. 10. Reviews asked for at the moment of relief, by the person who treated the patient, with a link on WhatsApp; every review answered within days, without confirming any patient detail; the bad ones answered calmly with what you will do.
Items 6 to 10 are what put a single-location clinic on the map for its neighbourhood within a couple of months, and they cost attention rather than money.
11–15: track calls, directions and appointment actions
11. Profile insights read monthly: searches that showed the clinic, calls, direction requests, website clicks, booking-button clicks. 12. Calls from the website counted with a tracking number, and the form and WhatsApp enquiries recorded with their source — so the receptionist can say where each new patient came from. 13. Appointment actions tracked: enquiries that became booked appointments, and appointments kept, by treatment. 14. Local rankings checked monthly from a phone inside the catchment for the handful of searches that matter — “dentist Jayanagar”, “skin doctor near me” — noting the three on the map. 15. A quarterly repeat of item 1, because directories change, and a quarterly look at the reviews for recurring themes the clinic should fix.
The tracking is honest only if the receptionist asks every new patient how they found the clinic and writes it down. Most of local SEO’s measurement is that one habit.

Nineteen checks specific to a clinic. The doctor and specialty items are the ones general checklists miss and the ones patients search for.

Mistakes, and what done looks like
The mistakes: keywords in the clinic name; a doctor’s profile owned by a former receptionist; stock photographs; one “treatments” page; bought or staff-written reviews; replies to reviews that mention the patient’s condition; no tracking, so the profile is judged on feeling; and treating the whole city as the target when the catchment is four kilometres. A safeguard: everything on the profile and the pages must be true of the clinic a patient would find on arrival.
Done looks like this: one identity for the clinic and each doctor, a profile that is complete, photographed and reviewed monthly, a page per treatment with the doctor’s name and the area, and a monthly sheet showing calls, directions and booked appointments rising. This is the clinic SEO work we do — the identity sweep across the directories and panels, the clinic and doctor profiles, the treatment pages and schema, the review routine with the front desk, and the monthly tracking from inside the catchment — and, for a single-location clinic with the time, most of it is a fortnight of the administrator’s attention.
Questions owners ask
Should each doctor have a separate Google profile?
Doctors who consult regularly at the clinic, yes — a practitioner profile linked to the clinic, with qualification and hours. Patients search for a doctor by name as often as for the clinic.
How do we ask patients for reviews within the rules?
Ask at the moment of relief, by the person who treated them, with a link — no incentive, no script asking for five stars. Answer every review without confirming any patient detail. That is both compliant and effective.
Which directories matter for a clinic in India?
Google first by a distance, then Practo, JustDial, and any insurance or corporate panel listings. Consistency of name, address and phone across them matters more than the count.
Can we rank for the whole city?
Only with a location in each part of it. The map shows clinics near the searcher; a single clinic ranks for its catchment, and city-wide visibility comes from treatment pages and content, not the map.
How long before the map shows us?
Weeks, once the identity is consistent and the profile complete, for searches within the catchment. Reviews and photographs added monthly move the clinic up from there.
What does GullySales do?
The identity sweep, the clinic and doctor profiles, the treatment pages with schema, the review routine with your front desk, and monthly tracking from inside your catchment — within the professional code. Scoped in the free audit and priced in writing.
