E-commerce · Haircare

A gel that works on one head is a bad review on the next.

A styling buyer is buying a result they saw on someone else: a textured crop, a slicked-back look, curls without frizz. They want to know how strong the hold is, whether it flakes or goes crunchy, and how it feels by evening.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Styling product e-commerce is the online sale of hair gels, waxes, clay, pomades, sprays, mousses, serums and heat protectants, bought to hold or finish a particular look. GullySales works on how your listings show hold, finish and wash-out on different hair, how a look is turned into a how-to, and how a buyer is moved from one product to the set that gives the look.

The listing has to describe hair behaviour in words buyers use: matte, shine, hold that lasts through humidity, washes out easily. Two products with the same ingredient list can read very differently in reviews.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for haircare differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell styling products online.

  • Men's grooming brands selling clay, wax, pomade and gel
  • Curl-care brands selling creams, gels and defining mousse
  • Brands selling hair sprays, serums and finishing products
  • Sellers of heat protectant sprays for people who use hot tools

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A product whose hold is weak that is described as strong because competitors say so
  • A seller who cannot produce a clear, honest photograph of the finish on real hair

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of styling products.

  1. Hold and finish

A scale from light to strong hold, and from matte to shine. Buyers choose by these two words before they look at the brand.

  2. Hair length and thickness

A clay that works on a short crop fails on long thick hair. The buyer looks for reviews from hair of their own length.

  3. Weather and sweat

Does the style survive Bengaluru drizzle or Mumbai humidity? Buyers believe reviews that name the weather.

  4. Wash-out and residue

They ask whether it leaves white flakes, a greasy feel or needs a second shampoo to remove. A water-based or oil-based product matters here.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell styling products online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Reviews say it flakes”

A product applied to wet hair, or used in the wrong amount, flakes. The how-to is as important as the formula.

  • “Buyers buy one product and want the whole look”

They buy the wax and nothing else, then buy a shampoo, spray and tool from another brand. The set for the look was never shown.

  • “Our content is a model and a product shot”

Buyers want to see the product used on short, long, curly and coarse hair, and the look after a day. A studio image tells them nothing.

What we do

What you get for styling products.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A hold and finish chart for the range

Every product placed on the same scale so the buyer picks without guessing.

  2. A look-by-look styling page

Steps, amounts and the products used, per look, with photographs on different hair types.

  3. A day-after photograph standard

Pictures taken at the start of the day and at the end, so buyers see how the style survives.

  4. A bundle plan by look

Which products go together for each look, and the page and price for each set.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Average order value
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Return rate
  • Bundle share of orders

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your listings, with hold and finish as you describe them
  • Reviews mentioning flaking, residue or weather
  • Any styling video you already have
  • Bundle and single-product sales
  • Your top three buyer groups, for example college students or office workers

Selling in India and abroad

Selling styling products beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Hold in different weather

Buyers in humid markets and dry cold ones judge a gel differently. Listings for each name the weather they are written for.

  2. Aerosols and restricted carriage

Sprays and aerosols are restricted by many carriers and routes, so paste, clay and cream travel more easily. Checked with your carrier before listing.

FAQ

Questions about selling styling products online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I show hold strength on a listing?
Use a plain scale from light to strong, and the same scale across your range. Add a photograph at the start and at the end of a day. Buyers trust that over the word strong.
Why do reviews say my wax or clay leaves white flakes?
It was applied on wet hair or in too large an amount. Put the right amount and the dry-hair instruction in the listing and in the first message after delivery.
Should I sell styling products in sets?
Yes, for a look. A set called textured crop beats a list of three products. Count how many orders contain the set, and what the set does to the number of returns.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.
