GullySales

E-commerce · Haircare

Buyers search for dandruff or frizz, not for our brand name.

Shampoo is used up in weeks, so the real sale is the third bottle. But the first one is won by a listing that matches a worry the buyer typed into a search box: itchy scalp, oily roots by evening, hair that feels dry after a wash.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Shampoo e-commerce is the online sale of everyday and specialised shampoos, from anti-dandruff and colour-safe to sulphate-free and herbal, in bottles, sachets and refill packs. GullySales works on how your shampoo listings name the hair problem, how reviews and pack sizes answer the doubt, and how a first bottle turns into a regular reorder.

The shelf is crowded with big names and sachet prices set by supermarkets. A smaller brand wins by being exact about who the shampoo is for.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for haircare differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell shampoos online.

  • Shampoo brands with a clear niche such as anti-dandruff, colour-safe or herbal
  • Sellers of sulphate-free and silicone-free shampoo for curly and wavy hair
  • Brands that sell shampoo bars, refill pouches or larger family packs
  • Brands selling shampoo and conditioner as one combo

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A shampoo with no difference from the ten next to it that is trying to compete on a discount alone
  • A brand that wants to say its shampoo treats a scalp condition

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of shampoos.

  1. Scalp first, hair second

Buyers decide whether it is for an oily, dry, flaky or sensitive scalp, then whether the hair is straight, wavy or curly. The title and first image carry that, or the buyer scrolls.

  2. Sulphate, silicone, paraben on the label

A growing group of buyers reads the ingredient list for these words. A listing that says free of them in the title but lists one at the back loses trust.

  3. Price per 100 ml

Shampoo is compared across bottle sizes, and a 180 ml bottle next to a 650 ml family pack looks dear unless the listing does the arithmetic for the buyer.

  4. Hard water and climate

Buyers in Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai describe the same shampoo differently because the water and the humidity differ. Reviews that mention the city count.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell shampoos online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “The first reviews say my scalp itched”

A strong anti-dandruff shampoo sold to a dry, sensitive scalp collects bad reviews that stay on the listing. The listing has to say who should not use it.

  • “Buyers choose the sachet pack and never move up”

Sachets and trial packs sell, but nothing invites the buyer to the full bottle. They stay a sampler for a year.

  • “The marketplace puts us next to cheaper shampoo”

Sponsored results fill the page with big brands at low prices. Buying clicks on those searches without a narrower keyword burns the budget.

What we do

What you get for shampoos.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A scalp and hair-type guide for each shampoo

Which scalp, which hair, which wash frequency, and who should skip it, shown on the listing and used by whoever answers messages.

  2. A price-per-100-ml comparison

A small table across your pack sizes so the buyer sees why the larger bottle is the better value.

  3. An ingredient glossary page

Plain meanings of sulphate-free, silicone-free and the actives on your label, checked by your adviser, so label questions stop going to chat.

  4. A sachet-to-bottle follow-up sequence

Two messages after a trial pack that suggest the bottle and ask for a review that names scalp type.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Return rate
  • Trial pack to full bottle conversion

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your shampoo listings and the keywords currently bringing clicks
  • Reviews that mention itching, dryness or the wrong hair type
  • Pack sizes, prices and which size sells most
  • Ingredient lists and any claims on the pack
  • Trial pack sales and whether those buyers ever bought a bottle

Selling in India and abroad

Selling shampoos beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Hard water and humidity elsewhere

A buyer in the Gulf deals with hard water and dry air, one in London with soft water and cold. Listings for each market name the problem that market has.

  2. Liquid shipping limits

Many carriers restrict liquids and the permitted bottle size varies by route, and a few countries have their own cosmetic labelling rules. Checked with your carrier and adviser before listing.

FAQ

Questions about selling shampoos online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Do I need to say sulphate-free on my shampoo listing?
Only if the label is true and the whole ingredient list agrees. Buyers who care read the back of the bottle. If it is a selling point, it goes in the title and in the ingredient section both.
Is it better to sell shampoo in sachets or bottles?
Sachets let a buyer try with little risk, bottles carry the margin. We would sell both and follow the sachet buyer with a message about the bottle, then count how many move across.
How do I stop bad reviews from the wrong customers?
Write who the shampoo is not for, near the top of the listing. A buyer who reads that and buys anyway is less likely to be surprised. A buyer who reads it and leaves is a return you did not pay for.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.
