Universities · Buyer persona

Write down who decides, because the student and the family rarely decide the same way.

A buyer persona for a university describes the person who chooses the programme and the people who influence or pay for it. GullySales builds one persona per priority programme from your enquiry records, so each page speaks to the right reader.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What buyer persona means

A buyer persona is a plain description of the kind of customer who actually buys from you. It includes what they search, what worries them and who else they ask before deciding. GullySales builds this from real enquiries and past sales rather than a generic template, then uses it to write every page and advert.

For universities

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The undergraduate and the parent are two readers”

The student wants campus life, electives and independence. The parent wants safety, a recognised degree and a fee they can plan. A page written for one leaves the other unsatisfied, and the family decides together.

  • “The postgraduate applicant is already working”

A working professional looking at a management or technology programme asks about class timing, recognition by employers and whether the degree changes their role. The prospectus written for school leavers answers none of it.

  • “The research scholar chooses a supervisor first”

A PhD applicant looks for a person and a topic before a university. The persona is a reader of papers and faculty pages, and the admissions page matters only after a supervisor has replied.

  • “The international applicant relies on an intermediary”

A student abroad may rely on an agent, a relative or a counsellor to read the options. That helper shapes the shortlist, so they need their own accurate information as well.

What we do

What we deliver for universities.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Persona card per priority programme

One card for each priority programme covering who decides, what starts the search, what worries them and what they compare you with.

Result: Each programme page is written for a named reader.

  2. Parent and student split

Separate notes on the student's questions and the parent's questions for each programme, linked to the same page.

Result: The page answers both readers.

  3. Working-professional persona

A card for postgraduate and executive programmes covering timing, employer recognition and fee approval.

Result: Evening and weekend programmes speak to people who work.

  4. Scholar persona

A card for research programmes built around supervisor search, funding questions and the research office.

Result: A scholar's first contact reaches the right person.

  5. Evidence check from your records

A comparison of each card with application forms, enquiry notes and reasons applicants gave for withdrawing.

Result: Cards are corrected where records disagree.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiry match to persona
  • Conversion rate by persona
  • Content aligned to persona

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who it is for

This is written for these universities.

  • State universities with many affiliated colleges
  • Private universities with a campus and hostel focus
  • Deemed-to-be universities with their own entrance
  • Universities with a dedicated research and PhD focus
  • Universities that recruit international students
  • Universities with strong professional schools such as engineering, law and management
  • Sector-specific universities in health, agriculture, technology or the arts
  • New private universities building their first admissions cycle

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the buyer persona work runs

  1. 1

    Understand the current view

We start with how your team currently describes the customer, since the gap between belief and reality is often the finding itself.

  2. 2

    Audit past enquiries and sales

We look at recent enquiries and closed deals to see who actually bought, not who was assumed to buy.

  3. 3

    Interview customers and staff

Short, structured conversations surface the real language, worries and triggers behind a purchase.

  4. 4

    Build the personas

Findings are written into short, usable persona documents rather than a long report.

  5. 5

    Apply to your marketing

We show exactly where each persona should change a page, an ad or a script you already have.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

#257, 3rd floor, Sri Nanjundeshwara Complex, Nagarbhavi 8th Block, Outer Ring Road. How we work.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

How many personas does a university need?
Start with the programmes that matter most this cycle, one card each. Add more once those are checked against real enquiries. A card for every programme on day one will be copied and never read.
Where does the information come from?
From your own application forms, call notes, counselling records and withdrawal reasons. We do not invent traits. Anything we cannot find in your records is marked as an assumption to confirm.
Should the persona include family income?
Only what applicants have told you themselves, for example whether they asked about instalments or scholarships. Do not infer income from a postcode or a school. Treat any financial detail as sensitive and store it with care.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
