A buyer decides whom to trust on what can be checked before the promise is tested.

A new parent in their thirties types a question about term cover into their phone the week the first child is born. A shop owner is told by the bank to produce a fire policy before a loan is released. A finance head opens a folder of group policies six weeks before the renewal date and asks three brokers for a view. Each starts with a search, a referral or a name they half remember, and each will stay with whoever answered clearly and did not push.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

Realistic editorial illustration of insurance agents and advisers at work in India

In one paragraph

Insurance services are the agencies, brokers, advisers, comparison platforms, software vendors and claim helpers that sell, place, service and support insurance policies. Buyers judge them on trust, plain answers and what happens after the sale. GullySales looks at how a buyer finds you, what they can check before a call, and whether each enquiry and open conversation is followed up.

The trades on this page sit at different points in the same chain. An agency sells to individuals and keeps their renewals for years. A broker or adviser works for a company or a household and is judged on advice. An aggregator or a technology vendor sells to buyers who are already comparing, and a claim helper is called on the worst day. They share a regulated field and a buyer who cannot test the product before buying it.

10 kinds of business

Each kind of business in insurance services sells a little differently.

Open the page closest to yours for how its buyers choose and what we would fix first.

Life insurance agencies

A birth, a loan or a first salary changes the numbers, and the need stays quiet until then. Being known early matters, and so does catching a lapse before the insurer's letter does.

Health insurance agencies

A family buys after a scare or a relative's hospital bill. Callers ask the price and vanish, parents' cover is the hardest sale, and help at admission and claim time is what the agency can be known for.

General insurance agencies

Buyers insure only because a bank asks for a policy. Sum insured gets guessed and underinsurance shows at claim time, so the value is in advice and a book of annual renewals.

Motor insurance agencies

Expiry dates drive everything. Owners renew online on the last evening, the dealer's desk hands over only the first year, garages ignore the agency on claim day, and fleet owners keep their dates on paper.

Commercial insurance brokers

Owners and finance heads place fire, marine, liability or engineering cover, and call a broker mostly when the incumbent fails. A seat at the renewal table is won by showing you understand their risks, not by quoting first.

Corporate insurance brokers

The finance head and the HR head buy group health and employee benefits, and they want different things. News of the renewal arrives after the incumbent has quoted, and premium becomes the only comparison unless you show how you work.

Insurance advisory firms

Prospects will not hand over their policy documents until they have seen how you think. Published explanations, a plain account of how you are paid and a clear review process lead to the first meeting.

Insurance aggregators

Buyers arrive already comparing, so the sale is won or lost in the minutes after the quote. A follow-up that does not sound like every other caller turns a shortlist into a completed proposal.

Insurance technology companies

A demo has to survive security review and a pilot, and the champion at the insurer may leave midway. Operations, technology and compliance each need convincing, so the content has to speak to each role.

Insurance claim assistance services

A worried family searches late at night, sometimes after a deadline has passed. The site must not read as a promise to get claims paid, fees must be clear, and documents sent by photo need the family's consent.

What they share

What usually goes wrong across insurance services.

Whichever of these you run, you will probably recognise most of them.

  • “A stranger's first search or shortlist does not include us”

Someone searching for an insurance firm, vendor or helper meets comparison sites, insurer pages, ads and larger names. Ours is not among them.

  • “Enquiries come in on WhatsApp, phone and forms and wait for an answer”

The person who should reply is busy with other work. By the time anyone gets back, the buyer has written to another firm.

  • “Follow-up depends on someone remembering the date”

Every open conversation has a next date, such as a callback, a renewal, a claim deadline or a review. Those dates sit in notebooks, spreadsheets and inboxes, and when one is missed the opening goes to whoever calls first.

  • “We are never sure what we may say in public”

Rules on claims, comparisons and promises are strict in insurance. Without a written house style, every post, brochure and message is a small risk, so little gets published.

  • “Buyers cannot tell us from the next firm”

Every firm says it is reliable and quick when it counts. With no proof beyond a certificate or a logo, the buyer chooses on whatever is easiest to compare.

  • “One bad moment decides what the client tells others”

A delay, an unclear fee or a promise that was not met is remembered and repeated. The firm hears of it late, if at all, and by then the review, referral or repeat business has gone elsewhere.

  • “We cannot say which source brought the clients worth keeping”

Referrals, listings, campaigns, events and partners all send enquiries. Without one record, spend and effort follow the loudest source and not the one that brought business worth keeping.

Where to start

What to fix first in insurance services.

In the order we would look at them. Your own enquiry records may change the order, and we would say so.

  • Reply to every enquiry on the channel it came in on, from a named person, with a plain next step and no jargon.
  • Build one dated register of every open conversation and every client, each with its next date and the person who owns it, and agree who calls whom before each date.
  • Fix your business listings and the website basics: your licence or registration details where the rules require them, what you handle, and how to reach you.
  • Write down what you may say in public, agree it with your compliance adviser and, where you place business with insurers, with them, and give everyone a short house style so that posts and messages stay inside it.
  • Ask clients whose matter went smoothly to say so in a review or as a named reference, and reply to the difficult ones in a calm, factual way.
  • Record where each enquiry came from and which ones led to business worth keeping, so that you can see which sources are worth the effort.

FAQ

Questions about insurance services.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Can an insurance firm advertise freely online?
Not freely. Rules from the regulator, and from the insurers you place business with where that applies, limit what you can claim, compare or promise, and they change. Agree your wording with a compliance adviser before you publish, and keep a copy of what was approved.
How do we stand out from the big names in search?
On what larger names do not offer. Pick the one thing you do better, such as a named person who answers, a narrower focus or a plainer explanation, and show it where buyers look. Be easy to find and clear about what you do, and do not try to list everything the big sites list.
Do reviews matter when the buyer cannot test what we sell?
Yes, most of all reviews that describe a matter handled well and say what was done. Ask only clients who are happy with the service, never offer anything in return, and do not publish personal details about their policy or business.
Is WhatsApp acceptable for talking to clients?
Where clients already use it daily, it is a sensible channel for reminders and questions. Get consent before you message, keep sensitive details off group chats, and move formal documents through a proper channel, such as the insurer's or your own.
What should we publish so a stranger can judge us before calling?
Plain explanations of how you work, what you handle, how you are paid and what the first conversation will cover. Buyers read these pages to prepare their questions, so they should answer what a family or a committee would ask.
How do we stop a client leaving after one bad moment?
Say plainly at the start what will happen and what it costs, stay involved at the moments that matter, and call afterwards to ask how it went. Answer a complaint by name and quickly.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on what is being changed and how many of the people who matter see it. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
