Backpacker hostels · Digital marketing

Put the hostel in front of a traveller at each step from the idea of a trip to the bed.

Digital marketing for a backpacker hostel covers every online place a traveller meets the property: search, maps, booking sites, Instagram, the website and the messaging apps. GullySales works on making those parts say the same true thing and on judging which brings guests.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What digital marketing means

Digital marketing is the combined work of search, social media, advertising and website channels running together rather than as separate projects with separate people. GullySales runs these as one connected system so a change in one channel, such as a new offer, is reflected everywhere at once.

For backpacker hostels

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Each channel tells a different story”

The platform lists one dorm size, the website another and Instagram shows a rooftop that has since closed. A traveller who sees the mismatch assumes the rest is as careless.

  • “Effort goes where it is visible, not where it pays”

Some hostels post daily on Instagram and never count whether a booking came from it. Without a source for each booking, the team cannot tell effort that fills beds from effort that fills a calendar.

  • “The commission quietly sets the margin”

A property that fills mainly through a booking site pays on each bed. The aim is a mix in which returning guests and followers book direct, and the platform brings the new traveller.

  • “The offseason needs its own plan”

A hostel that markets only when the town is full has no message for the slow weeks. Long stays, events and group blocks give a reason to book when travellers are not passing through.

What we do

What we deliver for backpacker hostels.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A channel audit from a guest's view

Every place a traveller might meet the hostel, checked in the order of a booking, with faults listed.

Result: A single list shows what is wrong and where.

  2. One set of property facts

A reference sheet of dorm sizes, locker details, hours, rules and rates you set, used on every channel.

Result: Every channel carries the same facts.

  3. Booking source tracking

A simple record of where each booking came from, kept by reception from the first message.

Result: Bookings are counted by source, not guessed.

  4. A direct booking offer

A reason for past guests and followers to book on your page, with the page itself kept simple.

Result: A returning traveller has a direct path to book.

  5. A plan for slow weeks

Events, long-stay rates and group outreach set out against the quiet months in your town.

Result: Quiet weeks have a message and a target audience.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiries across channels
  • Cost per enquiry overall
  • Channel mix by contribution

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who it is for

This is written for these backpacker hostels.

  • Hostels in backpacker hubs such as Goa, Manali, Rishikesh, Pushkar, Hampi and Varanasi
  • City hostels in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Jaipur used for transit
  • Hostels with a cafe, rooftop or co-working space
  • Female-only dorm and women-friendly hostels
  • Hostels for volunteers and long-stay remote workers
  • Hostels that host tours, treks and group trips
  • Hostels in hill towns used as bases for treks
  • Party and quiet hostels with a clearly different crowd

How it works

How the digital marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Understand the objective

We agree the one thing this campaign needs to achieve before choosing any channel.

  2. 2

    Audit available channels

We assess which channels are realistic to run well within the budget and timeline.

  3. 3

    Strategise the central idea

One message and offer is developed that will work across every planned channel.

  4. 4

    Implement across channels

Each channel receives its own adapted version, launched on a shared timeline.

  5. 5

    Measure as one campaign

Results from every channel are combined into a single report against the original objective.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 0, foundation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Where should a small hostel spend first?
On the things a traveller sees at the decision: listings, photos, reviews and the reply. Paid advertising comes after those hold up.
Do we need an agency for everything?
No. Some work, such as photos and replies, is best done in house. We take the parts where outside effort helps, and say so when your own team can do it.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
