Digital publishing companies · Lead generation

Bring in sponsors and agencies who already spend in your subject.

Lead generation for a digital publisher means finding the brand managers and media planners who would buy a slot on your site or in your newsletter, and starting a conversation with each. It is a separate job from growing readers. GullySales builds the target list, the first messages and the contact log your sales person works from.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What lead generation means

Lead generation is the combined work of every channel that brings in a new enquiry, whether from search, adverts, referrals or a stall at an exhibition. GullySales runs these channels together and reports the number of enquiries each one produced, not the activity behind it.

For digital publishing companies

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The buyer is a person at a brand, not a visitor to the site”

A reader arrives by search and needs no introduction. A sponsor does not arrive at all. The marketing head at a two-wheeler brand or the planner at an agency has to be named, found and written to, and nothing in your analytics will do that for you.

  • “Agencies decide before the brand ever hears of you”

Some sponsored slots are chosen by an agency building a plan for a client. If your site is missing from the agency's list of known publishers in your subject, the brand never sees it. A short introduction to the right planner reaches the decision earlier than a call to the brand.

  • “A pitch that opens on page views reads like every other pitch”

Planners receive traffic figures from every site. A message that opens on what the brand's own customers read, and names a specific piece that drew them, gives the planner a reason to reply and a reason to remember you.

  • “Enquiries that arrive on their own still need a place to land”

An agency may write to the general inbox or message the editor on WhatsApp. If there is no named contact and no log, the enquiry sits among reader mail. A single route for sponsor enquiries stops them going stale.

What we do

What we deliver for digital publishing companies.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Sponsor and agency target list

Brands and agencies that already advertise in your subject, grouped by buyer type, with the person who holds the digital budget named where it can be found.

Result: A list your seller can start calling from, with a reason against each name.

  2. First-contact messages by buyer type

Separate openers for a brand manager, an agency planner and an event organiser, each built on the readers that buyer cares about.

Result: A set of messages ready to send, each in the voice of your seller.

  3. Sponsor enquiry route

A named contact, a short enquiry form on the advertise page and a rule for where WhatsApp enquiries are copied.

Result: Every sponsor enquiry reaches one person and one log.

  4. Contact log with next step

A shared sheet recording who was approached, what they said and what happens next, with the date of the next nudge.

Result: Anyone on the team can open the log and see where each conversation stands.

  5. Peak-period pitch calendar

The moments when your readers are busiest, such as a budget day or exam results, matched to the brands whose products sell then.

Result: A calendar showing which brands to approach before each peak.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiries generated
  • Cost per enquiry
  • Enquiries by source

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

How the lead generation work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Understand your capacity

We agree how many enquiries your sales team can actually handle well, so the system is not built to overwhelm it.

  2. 2

    Audit current sources

We check what already brings in enquiries today, even informally, before adding anything new.

  3. 3

    Strategise the channel mix

Content, search and paid channels are chosen based on where your buyers already look.

  4. 4

    Implement capture and follow-up

Pages, forms and a follow-up process are built and connected end to end.

  5. 5

    Measure and optimise

We track enquiry volume and quality and adjust the channel mix to match.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 1, prospecting and lead generation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Should we hire a sales person before we generate leads?
Build the target list and the first messages first. A sales hire then starts with names and wording rather than a blank sheet. Whether the seller is a new hire, the founder or an editor with time to spare is your decision.
Can an editor-led team run sponsor outreach?
Yes, if the work is reduced to a list, a set of messages and a log. The editor keeps the relationship with the brand while the list and the log carry the repetition. GullySales sets those up and does not sign deals for you.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
