Law firms · Pay per click advertising

Understand why paid search is more limited here than in most industries.

Pay per click advertising for a law firm is heavily constrained by the Bar Council of India's restrictions on legal advertising. Most firms rely on informative content, directories and referral relationships instead. GullySales helps you understand what is realistic and where budget is better spent.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What pay per click advertising means

Pay per click advertising (PPC) is paying a fee each time someone clicks your advert on Google or another platform. It puts you at the top of a search page immediately, instead of waiting for ranking to build. GullySales sets the targeting, writes the ad text and checks spend against enquiries received.

Last updated 5 Oct 2026. Rules for this trade differ by state and professional body, and they change. We describe restrictions in general terms, so check the current position with your own council or adviser before you publish anything.

For law firms

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Direct solicitation through ads is not permitted for lawyers in India”

Unlike most professions, a law firm cannot run a typical promotional search ad campaign under the profession's own rules.

  • “Budget is better spent on content and directory visibility”

Where advertising is restricted, the equivalent spend on well-written practice area content and directory listings does the same job compliantly.

  • “Corporate legal services sit in a different position”

A firm's website presenting factual information about its expertise, rather than soliciting specific clients, is generally treated differently.

What we do

What we deliver for law firms.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. An advertising-restriction assessment for your firm

A written review of what is and is not realistic in paid search advertising for your practice areas, under Bar Council rules.

Result: You know exactly where the line sits before spending anything.

  2. A budget reallocation plan towards content and directories

A plan moving planned advertising spend towards practice area content and directory listings instead.

Result: The equivalent budget does compliant work instead of an unusable campaign.

  3. A factual corporate information page

A page presenting the firm's corporate expertise factually, positioned to sit within what is permitted for informational content.

Result: A business client finds relevant expertise stated plainly and safely.

  4. A directory spend comparison

A comparison of what directory listing options are available and which fit your practice areas and budget.

Result: You choose directory spend based on fit, not guesswork.

  5. An ongoing check against updated guidance

A periodic check of any updated Bar Council guidance that could affect what content or listings remain appropriate.

Result: Your visibility work stays within current professional guidance.

How the result is measured

  • Cost per click
  • Cost per enquiry
  • Enquiries from paid search

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Searches to bid on and block

The few searches worth a careful look for a law firm, and the many to stay away from.

Your firm's own name and your lawyers' names
The one clear case. A person given your name by a referrer types it into Google. Hold that search with a plain, factual entry, and check the wording of the advert with your own Bar Council rules first.
Divorce lawyer, property dispute lawyer, bail lawyer near me
Do not bid on your own. Rules for the profession restrict soliciting work, and a click on a matter-type search is solicitation. Take advice from your State Bar Council before any paid placement.
Free legal advice, legal aid and consultation free
Stay away. These searchers want no fee, and an advert to them reads as an offer of free work. Add free, legal aid, helpline and online lawyer free as negatives on any campaign you do run.
Company-side searches, such as agreement drafting or compliance for a company
Review with your council before testing. A firm's factual information for business clients sits in a different position from a promotional advert, and the line is for you and your council to draw.
Where a visit lands
If you do take any paid visit, send it to a practice-area page that explains the law in plain words and gives the office address. It should read as information, not a pitch to hire.
Counting a real enquiry
Count a consultation request that fits a practice area you handle and clears your conflict check. Note where the person found you, so you can see whether directories, referrals or content do the work.

This is written for these law firms.

  • Litigation and dispute resolution practices
  • Corporate and M&A law firms
  • Family law practices
  • Intellectual property law firms
  • Real estate and property law practices
  • Tax and compliance law practices

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is reply time, a follow-up sequence, the page buyers land on or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the pay per click advertising work runs

  1. 1

    Understand the total budget

We agree the full paid advertising budget available across all platforms, rather than planning each one separately.

  2. 2

    Audit current platform performance

We compare existing campaigns on a shared basis to see where the budget currently performs best and worst.

  3. 3

    Build the cross-platform plan

Campaigns are structured across platforms with a shared measurement standard from the outset.

  4. 4

    Implement and monitor

Campaigns run with budget allocated dynamically based on real-time performance.

  5. 5

    Measure and reallocate

We report performance and shift budget toward what is working, within agreed limits.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Can we run paid search for the practice?
Treat it as out of bounds. The Bar Council restricts advertising and solicitation, and bidding on somebody searching for a lawyer is solicitation on its face. Have your own partners confirm where the current rules sit before anything goes live.
What should replace ad spend for this profession?
Content, directory listings and referral relationships usually deliver more for a law firm than paid search would.
Is it all right to bid on our own firm name?
Many firms do, since a person who has already been referred should find the firm and nobody else. Keep the advert factual: name, practice areas and address. Because rules differ and change, confirm the wording with your Bar Council before it runs.
Where should the money go instead of paid search?
Into pages and entries that explain the law without soliciting: practice-area articles, accurate directory listings and a profile that matches your bar enrolment. Those can be checked against your council's rules, and a referrer can read them before recommending you.
Can a law firm advertise in India?
Only within narrow limits. The Bar Council of India restricts advertising and solicitation, so we build visibility through informative content, directories and referral relationships instead.
Can we show case wins or client names on our website?
No. Publishing results or testimonials reads as soliciting work, which the Bar Council rules forbid. A website may state your name, contact details, enrolment and areas of practice, and plain explainer articles can sit alongside that.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
