Jewellery retailers · Newspaper advertising

Book the morning before Akshaya Tritiya, or do not book at all.

Newspaper advertising for a jeweller is space in one edition of one paper on one named morning, and the mornings that matter sit against Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras and the wedding dates. GullySales works the release calendar back from those days, picks the edition your showroom draws from, and briefs the counter before the paper lands.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What newspaper advertising means

Newspaper advertising is space in a named edition of a paper on a named day, priced by the column centimetre. GullySales picks the edition and language your buyers actually read, meets the release deadline, and gives the reader somewhere to go.

For jewellery retailers

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The date is the entire buy”

An advertisement for Akshaya Tritiya that appears on the wrong morning is a wasted insertion, and the space for the right one went to whoever booked it in February. Festival editions fill long before the festival is in anyone's mind.

  • “The edition follows the showroom, not the masthead”

A single showroom in Rajajinagar is buying the Bengaluru edition of one title, in the language the family that walks in reads at home. A jeweller with branches in two districts is buying two different editions on the same morning.

  • “The wedding pages reach a different woman than page three”

Around the season the bride's mother reads the wedding and matrimonial columns with a pen in her hand. The same money placed against the city news reaches her while she is reading about traffic.

  • “She arrives carrying the page”

Jewellery buyers bring the cutting to the counter the way they bring a screenshot. If your floor staff have not seen what ran that morning, the offer is honoured badly and the visit turns into an argument.

What we do

What we deliver for jewellery retailers.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Release calendar worked back from the festival dates

Every insertion with the publication's material cut-off and an artwork sign-off date set behind it, drawn against Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras and the muhurta dates for the year.

Result: You book while the good mornings are still available.

  2. Edition and language matched to the showroom's catchment

The editions that reach the localities your billing addresses already come from, in the languages those households read, rather than a state-wide booking against the title.

Result: You stop paying for districts nobody can drive in from.

  3. Artwork to the column and to the counter

Built to the paper's column width and colour specification, with the making charge or exchange term written exactly as the billing desk will apply it and the validity dates printed.

Result: The advertisement promises what your counter can actually give.

  4. A WhatsApp line printed in the paper alone

One number used in that insertion and nowhere else, staffed from the moment the shutters go up, because a festival buyer compares three showrooms before lunch.

Result: The morning's enquiries are answered and counted.

  5. Counter briefing the evening before

The floor shown the advertisement, the offer and the number the night before it runs, with one line added to the billing slip about where the customer saw it.

Result: The showroom is ready for the people the page sends.

  6. The printed page read against the order

A copy of the page as it appeared, matched against the date, size, edition and position booked, and taken back to the publication when it does not match.

Result: You pay for the insertion you actually bought.

How the result is measured

  • Insertions published as booked
  • Enquiries traced to the print route
  • Cost per traced enquiry

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How space is bought, and checked

What a showroom owner confirms with the paper before booking a festival-morning advertisement.

Festival editions and held positions
Ask the executive for the festival special dates and whether a position is held against a deposit. Akshaya Tritiya and Dhanteras mornings fill early, so book before the page is designed.
Page and position on the order
Wedding pages, the business page and the city page are read differently. Ask for the page and write the position on the order, so there is something to claim against if it moves.
Gold rate and making charge in print
Gold moves daily and print cannot. Do not print a fixed rate. Print the making-charge basis and the exchange term exactly as the billing desk applies them, with the closing date.
Gold and stone colour on newsprint
Ask the paper for its colour specification and a proof. Gold and stone shades shift on newsprint, so test your photograph on that stock before the artwork is approved.
One order sheet for two districts
If you advertise in two districts, ask for a single booking sheet listing each edition, size and date. The invoice can then be checked line by line against what ran.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the newspaper advertising work runs

  1. 1

    Fix the date first

A launch, an admission window, an opening weekend or a notice. Everything else is planned backwards from that morning.

  2. 2

    Choose edition, language and day

We match the edition to your catchment and the day to the section your buyer opens.

  3. 3

Decide size, position and the route back

Display or classified display, how many column centimetres, which page we request, and what the reader is told to call or scan.

  4. 4

    Release the artwork early

The file goes to the publication ahead of its deadline, in the format it takes, with the position request on the order.

  5. 5

    Verify what printed

We read the printed page against the booking and raise it if the ad ran small, late or in the wrong section.

  6. 6

    Count what came back

Calls, scans and form fills on the traced route, reported against what that insertion cost.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

#257, 3rd floor, Sri Nanjundeshwara Complex, Nagarbhavi 8th Block, Outer Ring Road. How we work.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Is one large advertisement better than several small ones?
On a festival morning, yes. The whole city is deciding on the same day and the paper is open in the house for a few hours, so size on the right morning beats frequency across the week. Through the quiet months the reverse is true, and a small display slot repeated does more.
What happens if the artwork misses the paper's deadline?
The insertion moves to the next date with space, which for Akshaya Tritiya is the day after the buying is finished. Festival editions close early and sell out early. We set the schedule backwards from the appearance date so the file reaches the paper before its cut-off.
Can the advertisement quote today's gold rate?
It can only quote the rate on the morning of printing, and the rate may move before the reader reaches the showroom. Most jewellers print the making-charge basis and the offer terms instead, and leave the rate to the counter, where it can be shown and confirmed.
Is the paper's wedding supplement worth taking for a bridal range?
It reaches the family while they are planning, which suits a bridal range. Ask the date it runs, what it costs against a city page slot of the same size, and whether position is on the order. Then book it against your own wedding-season calendar.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
