SaaS and software companies · Referral marketing

Your integration listing is a referral channel nobody has touched since launch.

Referrals for a software company come from integration partners, the consultants who implement your category, and the users who already like the product. A cash reward to somebody's employee is where this goes wrong. GullySales builds the partner motion, the customer ask and terms that survive a procurement review.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For SaaS and software companies

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The directory listing on somebody else's product”

Your integration page sits in a marketplace your customers already open, read by people with the exact problem you solve. Most companies wrote it the week the integration shipped and never looked again.

  • “A partner's rep will not sell for you out of goodwill”

The partner needs one page, one named person on your side, and a reason their own deal gets bigger or easier. Without those three a signed partnership produces nothing all year.

  • “Paying an individual is where this goes wrong”

A cash reward to an employee of a buying company is something their procurement policy probably forbids, and it surfaces at the worst possible moment. Credit to the company, disclosed, is cleaner, and your counsel decides.

What we do

What we deliver for SaaS and software companies.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Integration listings rewritten and kept current

Your pages in the marketplaces that matter, written for the other product's user with the use case and the setup steps, and revisited when either product changes.

Result: A listing you forgot about starts producing signups.

  2. A partner page and a named contact

One page a partner rep can read in two minutes, carrying the pitch, the qualifying question and the person on your side who answers the phone.

Result: Partner reps have something they can actually use.

  3. Co-sell targets picked from overlapping accounts

The accounts you and a partner both touch, listed and worked together, rather than hoping a partnership produces leads on its own.

Result: Partnership activity turns into named opportunities.

  4. A customer referral ask with clean terms

Credit to the account rather than cash to a person, disclosed in writing, with wording checked so it survives the buyer's procurement review.

Result: Referrals do not become a compliance problem later.

  5. Implementation consultants approached properly

The agencies and consultants who deploy your category, given the certification, the margin and the support they need before they will recommend you.

Result: The people who set the system up bring you into the room.

  6. Referred pipeline tracked on its own

Referral and partner-sourced deals tagged when they are created and reported separately, against the baseline recorded before the work started.

Result: You can tell a real partner from a logo on a slide.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals reach a software company

A referral from a user with a live account closes differently from a cold name on a list.

The integration partner
Keep your listing on their marketplace correct and ask for a named contact in their partner team. A listing that is out of date sends buyers to a feature you have since changed.
The implementation consultant
Consultants who set up your category see every buyer's shortlist. Give them a sandbox, a clear price sheet and a contact who answers their technical questions, and ask what they need from you.
The champion inside a customer account
Ask the person who uses the product daily, after a visible success, whether a peer at another firm has the same problem. Check the contract for reference rights before naming the account.
The investor or adviser with a portfolio
An investor can introduce you to portfolio companies who need your category. Send a short forwardable note with the problem, the buyer and what a first call covers, then respect the introduction.
What never to do
Never pay cash or gifts to a customer's or prospect's employee for an introduction without the employer's written agreement. Many companies bar it under their own procurement and anti-bribery rules.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the referral marketing work runs

  1. 1

Understand your margin and customer relationship

We agree what reward is genuinely sustainable and appropriate for your business and customer type.

  2. 2

    Audit existing informal referrals

We check how much word of mouth already happens, to size expectations for the formal programme realistically.

  3. 3

    Design the offer and mechanism

A specific reward and an easy sharing method are built and tested.

  4. 4

    Implement and promote

The programme is surfaced at the right moments in your customer journey.

  5. 5

    Measure and adjust

We track referrals and conversions, adjusting the reward or promotion if uptake is low.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • Hours that fit your day, agreed up front

Which hours we overlap with yours is settled before any work starts, so you know when a reply is coming and when it is not.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Should we pay a referral commission to customers?
Pay the company, not the person, and put it in writing. Account credit or a discount at renewal is easy for a buyer's finance team to accept. Cash to an individual employee is the version that causes trouble, and your counsel should read the terms first.
We signed three partnerships and nothing happened. Why?
Because a signature is not a motion. No partner rep wakes up wanting to sell your product. Pick the accounts you both touch, hand their reps one page and one name, and work a short list together instead of waiting for inbound.
How do we credit a deal that touched a partner and an outbound email?
Decide the rule before the deal, not after. Common choices are to credit the first recorded source or the one the buyer names. Put the source in a dedicated CRM field, agree it with the partner in writing and apply it the same way each time.
Which customers should we ask for a referral first?
Those with active use, a recent result they can name and a champion who knows you. Check the contract for reference rights, and ask for a specific introduction rather than a general recommendation. Leave out accounts with an open support issue.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
