E-commerce · Clothing & Apparel

A jacket is a bigger decision than a shirt, and it only sells in the cold months.

Outerwear costs more than a shirt and is worn over something else, so the buyer is deciding on fit across layers and on how cold it can get before the jacket stops being enough. The sale also lives in a window: Bengaluru buys a hoodie for a rainy week, Delhi a puffer for December, and the buyer is gone by February.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Outerwear e-commerce is the online sale of jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies, blazers, sweaters, raincoats and winter coats, a higher-priced garment bought for warmth, weather or style. GullySales works on how your pages explain warmth, layering and fit over other clothes, and on a selling year that is crowded into a few cold months.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell outerwear online.

  • Winterwear and woollen labels selling direct to consumers
  • Hoodie and sweatshirt brands built around campus and streetwear
  • Blazer and formal jacket sellers for office and weddings
  • Raincoat and windcheater sellers for the monsoon and for riders

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who cannot say what temperature a jacket is made for
  • Anyone who expects a winter range to carry the whole year with no plan for the other months

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of outerwear.

  1. Warmth and the weather it is for

Fill type, thickness and lining, and whether the jacket suits a Bengaluru morning, a Delhi December or a Manali trek. Buyers do not trust a page that says warm.

  2. Fit over layers

A jacket sits over a shirt or a sweater, so the buyer asks if they should size up, how long the sleeve is and how it falls at the hip.

  3. Water resistance and care

Whether it is water-resistant or waterproof, whether it can be machine-washed, and how the fill behaves after a wash.

  4. Material and the price it justifies

Wool, fleece, down, synthetic fill, faux leather. The buyer compares composition and weight across sellers before paying a higher price.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell outerwear online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Most of the year’s sales come in a few weeks”

Cold-weather searches climb in one stretch and ads in that stretch cost the most. A missed week can mean a missed season, and unsold stock sits until next year.

  • “Buyers say it was not as warm as it looked”

A page that only shows the style gives them no idea of the fill and weight. They buy for a trek and wear it on a morning walk, or the reverse.

  • “Blazers come back for the shoulder”

The chest fits and the shoulder does not, and a shoulder measurement was never on the chart.

The scope

The work we would propose for outerwear.

Measured on purchases, conversion rate, cost to win a customer, average order value and repeat purchases. Anything here that needs a platform or tool we have not used with you is confirmed in the audit before it goes in the scope.

What we do

What you get for outerwear.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A warmth and use guide

A table matching each style to the kind of weather it is meant for, and what to layer underneath.

  2. A layering size note

How much to size up for a sweater, with shoulder and sleeve measurements for every jacket.

  3. A season calendar by city

When campaigns start for Delhi, Chandigarh, Pune and Bengaluru, based on your own sales by city.

  4. A pre-order and clearance plan

Which pieces are taken on pre-order, which are cleared at the season end, and the pages and messages for each.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Average order value
  • Return rate
  • Sell-through by season

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Sales by week for the last two winters
  • Sales by city, to see where the cold-weather buyers are
  • Return reasons, especially for fit and warmth
  • Fill, lining and weight details for each jacket
  • Unsold stock from last season

Selling in India and abroad

Selling outerwear beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Real winters abroad

A jacket rated for an Indian hill station will not carry a buyer through a Canadian January. Which market you serve decides what temperature the page promises.

  2. Bulk and duty

Padded outerwear is bulky to ship, and duty and shipping cost make sense only at a certain price. We start with the overseas orders you already receive and where they came from.

FAQ

Questions about selling outerwear online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

When should I start advertising winter jackets?
Before the first cold week in the city you sell to, not in the middle of it. We use your sales by week and city to set it. Buyers start searching before it is cold, and that period has less competition.
Do I need to offer returns on jackets?
It depends on your margin and your returns history. Many buyers want to try the fit over a layer at home, and a clear exchange option can be a better answer than a refund.
How can I sell hoodies outside winter?
Hoodies sell to college students and groups for events, and to monsoon and air-conditioned-office buyers. We look at where they sold in the off months before choosing.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
