A plant is alive when it ships and the buyer judges it when it opens the box.
The buyer is picking a living thing from a photograph. They ask whether it will survive in their flat, whether it will flower, whether the one that arrives looks like the one they saw. A plant that comes bent, yellowed or dry is a review before the buyer has even watered it.
A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.
In one paragraph
Selling plants online means sending live indoor, outdoor, flowering and fruiting plants by courier to buyers who cannot touch them first. GullySales writes the product pages with true size and care, plans the packing and dispatch promise with you, and sets up the aftercare messages that keep a plant alive and a buyer returning.
Nurseries who sell well online treat the plant as a product with a short shelf life: size is stated, packing is planned, dispatch days are fixed and care starts in the first hour.
Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for garden supplies differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.
Who it is for
This is written for you if you sell plants online.
- Nurseries selling indoor and outdoor plants in pots by courier
- Specialists in succulents, orchids, bonsai, bulbs or flowering annuals
- Fruit and ornamental sapling growers who ship bare or potted plants
- Plant sellers on marketplaces looking for repeat buyers outside them
Not for
It is not the right fit if.
- A nursery without a dependable courier for live goods. We would fix that first, not advertise.
- Sellers who sell only large trees to contractors and designers. That is project work by quotation, not a basket.
How buyers choose
What decides the sale of plants.
Light, water and space
Searches name the conditions: low light plant for a bedroom, plant for a hot balcony, plant that is safe near pets. A buyer wants to be told which plant fits their room before they look at the price.
Pot size, height and age
The same name can mean a seedling or a mature plant. Buyers look for pot diameter, height in the pot and a photograph of the actual stock.
Common name and botanical name
People type money plant, snake plant, jade plant. Sellers who list only the Latin name are missed, and sellers who list only a local name are mistaken for another plant.
Will it be alive when it comes
The buyer reads reviews for words like wilted, broken stem, shed leaves, and checks whether you replace them. A clear note on packing and replacement is often what makes the first order.
Where sales are lost
What usually goes wrong when you sell plants online.
In the words sellers use on the first call.
“Half the complaints say the plant looked sick on arrival”
A plant in a dark box for days will lose leaves, and some is normal. The page should say what shock looks like and what is not, with a photograph of both.
“We sell a plant and the buyer kills it in two weeks”
Overwatering is the usual cause. Short care messages in the first fortnight, with what to do, are the fix and also bring a second order for a pot or a feed.
“Customers want the exact plant in the photograph”
Each plant is a little different. Photograph actual stock, group by size and name the range of height, or buyers feel misled.
“Rare and fashionable plants sell out and then we have no content”
A waiting list with a message when the stock returns keeps the interest. Otherwise the buyer finds another nursery.
The scope
The work we would propose for plants.
Measured on purchases, conversion rate, cost to win a customer, average order value and repeat purchases. Anything here that needs a platform or tool we have not used with you is confirmed in the audit before it goes in the scope.
- Plant pages by name and conditionA page per plant with the common name, botanical name, pot size, light, water and what to expect on arrival, written for what buyers search, such as plants for a shaded balcony.
- Photographs of actual stockA simple way of photographing each batch as it is sent, with size markers, so what is in the image is close to what goes in the box.
- Care messages after deliveryA short run of messages after the plant arrives, with care steps and a request for a photograph if it is struggling. The audit settles which set-up sends them.
- Back-in-stock waiting listA form for each sold-out plant, and a message when it returns, so a rare plant keeps a buyer's attention.
- Reviews that mention the plant itselfA request for a photo of the plant a few weeks later, which gives pages proof that the plant lived and grew.
Packing and dispatch plan
A written plan with your courier for which plants go on which days, how they are packed and what the delivery promise on each page says. Decided with you, not assumed.
What we do
What you get for plants.
Each deliverable and what it is there to change.
A plant care card
One per plant, with light, water and first-week steps. It cuts the complaint that a plant died.
A what-to-expect-on-arrival page
Shows normal transit stress against a real problem, with photographs. It reduces refund requests that are not justified.
A plant name list
Common names, local names and botanical names for each product. It lets buyers find the plant by the word they use.
A replacement route
A simple form that asks for a photograph on arrival. It separates damaged goods from a plant that is simply adjusting.
How the result is measured
- Purchases
- Conversion rate
- Customer acquisition cost
- Repeat purchase rate
- Return and replacement rate, by reason
- Back-in-stock sign-ups
Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.
How it works
From your first message to the first report.
No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.
First
Free audit call
90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.
After the call
Written, scored report
Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.
Before work starts
Baseline recorded
Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.
After the baseline
The first fix goes live
Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.
As agreed
Report against the baseline
What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.
At renewal
Renew on the numbers
The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.
What we need from you
What to have ready before the audit call.
None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.
- Your plant list with sizes, pot sizes and the stock you can hold
- Photographs of plants as they are packed
- Damage and complaint messages from the last season
- Courier names and the pincodes you can ship live goods to
- The plants buyers ask for that you do not yet list
Selling in India and abroad
Selling plants beyond your own market.
Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.
Plant movement across borders is restricted
Rules for plants and plant material differ by country and need checking with the relevant authority before any shipment. Nothing on a page should promise it until that is done.
Start with where you already sell
Your own platforms' sales data shows which markets already buy. Dried, artificial or non-living plant products are a different question from live stock.

Why us
Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.
Marketing and sales, as one job
Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.
The person on the first call does the work
No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.
A baseline before anything starts
Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.
The fee in writing, split three ways
Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.
No guarantees we cannot keep
The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
One office, and we say so
Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.
