The tape lets go in the monsoon, and the buyer blames the box.

Tape is a low-value item with a high cost when it fails. A parcel that opens in transit means a replacement, a refund and an angry customer for the seller. So buyers who have been burnt once pay attention to the specification, and those who have not are buying on the cheapest rate.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Packaging tape is the BOPP, printed, masking, filament and double-sided tape used to seal cartons and bundle goods, bought by roll length, width and thickness. GullySales builds specification-led pages, a case-pack price table and a reorder routine, because a warehouse that finds a tape that holds buys it by the carton.

It is also a consumable that is bought in a case. A packing table that uses forty rolls goes through a case quickly, and the supplier who is called on the right day keeps the order.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for packaging supplies differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell packaging tape online.

  • Manufacturers and converters of BOPP and printed tape
  • Dealers who supply tape to factories, warehouses and e-commerce sellers
  • Suppliers of masking, filament, double-sided and specialty tape
  • Sellers who also offer tape dispensers, cutters and packing tables

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who cannot state the actual roll length and width, since buyers will measure.
  • A supplier who wants to compete on price against the cheapest roll from a market stall. We would say in the audit what else you have to offer.

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of packaging tape.

  1. Width, length and micron

A buyer asks for 48 mm or 72 mm, a roll of 65 or 100 metres, and the thickness. If the page does not give the real length, buyers assume a short roll and look elsewhere.

  2. Adhesive and conditions

Cold storage, humid coastal air and hot trucks stress an adhesive in different ways. A buyer in one of those conditions wants to know the tape was made for it.

  3. Sold by the case

Rolls come in boxes of six, thirty-six or seventy-two. The price per roll at each case size, and the minimum order, decide whether a small seller or a warehouse is the buyer.

  4. Printed tape and brand

Brands print their name or a handle with care on the tape, and ask for the number of colours, the minimum and the cost of the first plate. It also stops people reusing the box.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell packaging tape online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Buyers say rolls are shorter than the label”

A roll sold as 100 metres that measures 80 loses the account. Tell the truth on the page, and make the figure the same on every document.

  • “We get no enquiry for printed tape, though we make it”

Brands do not know it is an option, or fear a large minimum. A page with the lead-in steps, the sizes and a small first run brings them.

  • “Tape sticks badly to recycled cartons”

A buyer who switched to recycled boxes may blame the tape. Advising on the right adhesive for the carton is the sort of help that earns the order.

  • “A warehouse runs out of tape on a pattern and nobody calls”

A large user has a rhythm. A reorder call on that rhythm is a service, and the supplier who makes it wins every time.

The scope

The work we would propose for packaging tape.

Measured on qualified enquiries, quotation requests, follow-up, orders won and repeat orders. Anything here that needs a platform or tool we have not used with you is confirmed in the audit before it goes in the scope.

What we do

What you get for packaging tape.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A tape specification sheet

One page that lists every tape with true length, width, micron and adhesive. It makes your range comparable and honest.

  2. A case price table

Price by case size and minimum. It lets a buyer decide without a call.

  3. A printed tape page and form

The steps and cost for a first run. It brings in brand buyers who would otherwise not ask.

  4. A reorder sheet

Buyers with their usual cases and last order. It tells you who is due.

How the result is measured

  • Qualified enquiries
  • Quotation requests
  • Trial roll requests that became orders
  • Follow-up on each quotation
  • Orders won
  • Repeat orders by case size

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your range with widths, lengths, micron and adhesive type
  • Case sizes and prices at each size
  • Any printed tape you have made, with photographs
  • Your regular buyers and what they order
  • Complaints about length, sticking or noise

Selling in India and abroad

Selling packaging tape beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Widths and lengths abroad

Overseas buyers order in inches and yards as often as in millimetres and metres. A table in both avoids mistakes.

  2. Tape for sea freight and cold chain

A buyer shipping by sea or into cold storage needs an adhesive that survives it. Say which of your tapes are made for that, and test before you claim it.

FAQ

Questions about selling packaging tape online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I explain why my tape costs more than the cheapest?
Show the true length, the thickness and the adhesive, and tell the buyer what it saves them in re-sealed parcels. Offer a trial roll. Some buyers will still buy the cheapest, and you do not need those.
Should I sell dispensers and cutters with the tape?
If your buyers are packing tables, yes. A dispenser is a small item that makes tape use faster and keeps the buyer ordering from you. List it next to the tape page.
Is it worth listing tape on a marketplace?
For small buyers, yes, since they search there. Use it as the first order, then bring the buyer to a direct reorder. For large users, a page on your own site with a case table works better.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
