The label printer jams, and the buyer does not know the roll was the wrong core size.

A label is bought to fit a printer. The seller has a thermal printer on the packing table, the factory has a barcode printer on the line, and the buyer has to find a roll that works with it. The wrong core, the wrong width or the wrong coating gives a jam, a blur or a label that peels in a week.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Labels are the thermal shipping labels, barcode labels, printed product labels and plain sticker sheets that businesses use to identify, price and dispatch goods. GullySales builds pages by printer and use, a compatibility checker, and the enquiry route for printed label runs, since a buyer's first question is always whether it fits the machine.

That makes compatibility the first sales message, not quality. After it comes the second sale: printed labels for a brand's own product, with artwork, material and minimum run.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for packaging supplies differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell labels online.

  • Suppliers of thermal shipping labels and barcode rolls
  • Printers of product labels for food, cosmetics, household and industrial goods
  • Dealers of label printers who also sell the rolls and ribbons
  • Sellers of A4 sticker sheets for small businesses and home brands

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who prints only one custom label for one client and has no plan to take on others.
  • Anyone who cannot test a roll on a printer before listing it. The compatibility claim must be true.

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of labels.

  1. The printer and the roll size

A buyer gives a printer model and asks for the width, height, core diameter and roll outer diameter. Direct thermal or thermal transfer, and whether a ribbon is needed, are the next two questions.

  2. Where the label will live

A label for a cold box, a wet bottle, a hot pan lid or a cardboard parcel needs a different adhesive and surface. Buyers describe the use, and expect a recommendation.

  3. Printed, or blank to print themselves

Brands buy printed rolls in a set quantity with a proof. Sellers who print their own buy blank rolls by the carton. The two need different pages and different forms.

  4. Information on the label

A food or cosmetic brand wants to know how much information fits, and whether the label can carry the details that its own adviser says it needs. We do not state what must be on a label.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell labels online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “The buyer orders the wrong size and blames us”

A 4 by 6 inch label and a 100 by 150 millimetre label are close and not the same. A table that gives both, with the printer models they suit, prevents the return.

  • “Printed label runs stall at the artwork”

The buyer sends a screenshot or a photograph. A short artwork guide, with the file format, colour mode and bleed, shortens the route to a proof.

  • “We lose bottle and pouch brands to the printer next door”

A brand cares about the look on the shelf. A gallery of finished labels by product type, with the material and finish named, shows what you can do.

  • “Thermal rolls are bought on price and swapped easily”

Whoever is cheaper this month wins. A reorder record, a stock promise and a call before the stock ends tie the buyer to you.

What we do

What you get for labels.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A printer and roll compatibility table

Printer models against the roll sizes that fit. It removes the buyer's biggest fear and the biggest cause of returns.

  2. An artwork guide

Formats, bleed and colour for a printed label. It gets the first proof right.

  3. A label work gallery

Real finished labels with materials listed. It shows a brand what you could do for them.

  4. A reorder record

Each buyer with printer, roll and last order. It makes the reorder call possible.

How the result is measured

  • Qualified enquiries
  • Quotation requests for printed labels
  • Follow-up on each quotation
  • Orders won
  • Repeat orders
  • Returns for wrong size by product

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your label range with sizes, core sizes and materials
  • The printers each roll has been tested on
  • Photographs of printed work with permission to show it
  • Minimum runs and the price of a first printed order
  • Complaints about jams, fading and peeling

Selling in India and abroad

Selling labels beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Label sizes by courier and country

A seller shipping abroad may need labels that match a carrier's format. The page should say which formats you have tested, and not infer it.

  2. Language and marks on the label

A product for another country carries that country's language and information. What is required is for the brand's adviser to say, and the printer to print.

FAQ

Questions about selling labels online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?
Direct thermal labels print by heat on coated paper and need no ribbon, which suits shipping labels. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon and lasts longer, which suits product and asset labels. Check which your printer takes.
How do I get a custom label printed for my small brand?
Send the product, the label size you want and the artwork or a clear sketch. A printer will suggest the material and quote for a minimum run. Ask for a proof before the full run.
Do I need waterproof labels?
If the product is cold, wet or oily, yes. For dry goods, paper may be enough. Tell your supplier the surface and the conditions, and test a few before ordering a large run.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
