ClimateTech startups · Buyer persona

Write down who signs, who objects and who only influences the purchase.

A buyer persona for a ClimateTech startup describes each person around one plant or campus purchase: the owner, the plant head, finance, the sustainability lead and the consultant. GullySales works on mapping their worries, their words and the proof each one asks for.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What buyer persona means

A buyer persona is a plain description of the kind of customer who actually buys from you. It includes what they search, what worries them and who else they ask before deciding. GullySales builds this from real enquiries and past sales rather than a generic template, then uses it to write every page and advert.

For ClimateTech startups

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The owner is moved by a customer, not a target”

In a mid-sized exporter, the owner acts when the largest overseas customer asks for emissions data. The pitch to this person is about keeping that account, in plain language, and about what is needed from the factory to do it.

  • “The plant head carries the risk”

This person worries about downtime, installation disruption and who answers a call at night. They want to know who maintains the equipment after the install and which similar plant is running it. Technical elegance matters less than a clear answer on service.

  • “Finance reads the payback line”

The accounts head asks for the saving in rupees against the cost, and wants the assumptions visible. A proposal that hides its method loses here. One that shows the metered base, the period and the cost of capital gets a fair hearing.

  • “The sustainability lead has influence and no budget”

This person writes the report and champions the project. They need numbers in a reportable form and a standard they can name. Treat them as the internal advocate, and give them a document that helps them argue the case upstairs.

What we do

What we deliver for ClimateTech startups.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Persona sheets by buyer type

One page each for the owner, plant head, finance head, sustainability lead and consultant, covering worries, words and proof needed.

Result: A team reads one page and knows how to speak to each.

  2. A decision map for each segment

A sketch of who is involved when a textile unit, hotel or campus buys, and in what order they weigh in.

Result: You see who to bring into the next call.

  3. Objection and answer notes

The doubts each persona raises, with a plain, truthful reply backed by the pilot.

Result: Replies on file for the questions that recur.

  4. Message variants

Outreach and page wording rewritten for each persona from the same facts.

Result: Each reader sees their own concern in the first line.

  5. A buying-trigger list

The events that put a purchase on a persona's desk, such as an audit date, a loan condition or a notice.

Result: A list of moments to watch for in each account.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiry match to persona
  • Conversion rate by persona
  • Content aligned to persona

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who is asking

A climate purchase involves five people who each ask something different.

Factory owner under customer pressure
They want to know if a buyer or an export customer will accept the change, and what it costs to run. They move when a customer asks.
Plant head carrying the risk
They want to know what fails, who services it and what happens to output on a bad day. They distrust anything that stops a line.
Finance head reading the payback
They want the capital, the running cost and how the saving is measured. They ask what happens if the saving is lower.
Sustainability lead with influence
They want a credible report and a supplier who can explain it to management. They may have no budget and need an ally.
Energy auditor or EPC consultant
They want datasheets, a clear interface and a product that will not embarrass them in a client project.

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You have had few buyer meetings, so the sheets would describe imagined people rather than those who replied.
  • The product sells to a single industry and one buyer, and a full set would add effort without insight.
  • The plan is to use the sheets only for investor decks, when they should shape the pages and calls.

How it works

How the buyer persona work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Understand the current view

We start with how your team currently describes the customer, since the gap between belief and reality is the finding itself.

  2. 2

    Audit past enquiries and sales

We look at recent enquiries and closed deals to see who actually bought, not who was assumed to buy.

  3. 3

    Interview customers and staff

Structured conversations with recent buyers, held as talk about the last purchase and not a questionnaire. We ask what happened before they called, who else was involved and what they compared. Customers agree before we contact them, and their answers are reported without names.

  4. 4

    Build the personas

Findings are written into short, usable persona documents rather than a long report.

  5. 5

    Apply to your marketing

We show where each persona should change a page, an ad or a script you already have. The sales team reads the drafts and says which ring true. A persona they do not recognise is rewritten.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 0, foundation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

How do we build personas without inventing them?
From your own sales calls, pilot meetings and emails. We read what real buyers asked and sort it by role. A persona with no call or email behind it is a guess, and we mark it as one.
Do we need a persona for every industry?
One set per industry you are actively selling into. A dyeing unit and a hotel share some worries and differ on others. We begin with the industry where the pilot ran and extend as the second one opens.
Where do consultants fit?
They are a persona of their own. An energy auditor wants a dependable product they can name in a report, and a clear way to be credited. Their sheet is separate from the buyer's.
How does a persona handle a buyer who wants a subsidy first?
Write it as the buyer's condition and note who in the buyer's firm owns the scheme question. Do not describe scheme rules, which change. The sheet should say what to offer: a quote that stands apart from any incentive, and a clear statement that the buyer confirms scheme terms.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
