CPA and accounting firms · Local SEO

Be found in your metro without becoming the cheap return office.

Local search for a CPA firm is the Business Profile, the directories owners actually use, and the search for a firm in a specific suburb. GullySales completes the profile and the advisor directory listings, corrects details that disagree across the web, and separates the searches worth having from the ones that bring price shoppers.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What local SEO means

Local SEO is the work of making your business show up for searches that name your town or locality, such as a service plus an area name. GullySales sets up locality pages, local citations and map listings so nearby customers find you before a competitor across town.

Last updated 5 Oct 2026. Rules for this trade differ by state and professional body, and they change. We describe restrictions in general terms, so check the current position with your own council or adviser before you publish anything.

For CPA and accounting firms

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The advisor directories are half empty”

QuickBooks and Xero listings send small business owners to firms nearby, and most of those listings were filled in once and abandoned.

  • “A profile in a suburb outranks a firm downtown”

Owners search by the area they work in. The office address you list decides which searches you can appear in at all.

  • “Clients now sit in states you have never visited”

Remote work spread your list across state lines, and what you may say about practising there is a question for your board, not for a marketer.

What we do

What we deliver for CPA and accounting firms.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A Business Profile completed and kept current

Services, hours including the extended ones you keep in the spring, photographs of the real office, and a phone number that a person answers.

Result: The firm looks open and staffed to anybody checking.

  2. Advisor directory listings filled out properly

QuickBooks, Xero and the association directories completed with your niche, your certifications and the industries you serve, rather than left at the default.

Result: Owners searching those directories can find a reason to call you.

  3. Name, address and credentials made consistent

Every listing corrected to the same firm name, suite number and phone, with the CPA designation used the way your state board permits.

Result: Nothing about the firm looks out of date or unverified.

  4. Pages for the areas your clients are in

Short pages for the suburbs and business parks where your clients cluster, written around the businesses there rather than around the place name.

Result: Local searches reach a page about their kind of business.

  5. Profile calls tracked apart from the rest

Calls and direction requests from the listing counted separately, with a note of what each turned into, so the profile is judged on engagements.

Result: You can tell whether local search brings clients or callers.

How the result is measured

  • Map pack ranking
  • Local search visibility
  • Enquiries by locality

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

What Google weighs here

How a business owner nearby finds a CPA firm, and what to fix first.

Certified public accountant first
Set Certified public accountant as the main category. Add Tax preparation service only if you take returns for individuals. A profile built for tax season fills the phones with people who want one return and nothing else.
Niche as services
List restaurant accounting, dental practice bookkeeping or contractor payroll, whichever you serve. A business owner scans for their own trade, and a niche in the services list tells them you know its numbers.
Suburbs you serve
Name the suburbs and towns where your clients are, with a page for each that you can truly serve. A firm in a nearby suburb often shows ahead of a downtown office for a search that names the suburb.
State society and software directories
Claim the find-a-CPA listing of your state society. If you are a QuickBooks ProAdvisor or listed with an accounting software directory, claim that too. Owners looking for bookkeeping help use those lists.
Name as licensed
Write the firm name as it appears on the state board registration, with the same suite number and format on every listing. Mismatches between the board, the website and Maps weaken trust in both.
Reviews and confidentiality
Ask clients to describe the work in general terms and not their figures. Never confirm in a reply that someone is a client. State board rules on testimonials differ, so check with yours before you ask.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the local SEO work runs

  1. 1

    Audit every listing

We check the Google Business Profile and directory listings for every branch against what should actually be shown.

  2. 2

    Complete and correct

Profiles are filled in fully and inconsistent details are corrected across every directory found.

  3. 3

    Build location pages

Each branch gets a page written for its own area, not a copy of the head office page with the address changed.

  4. 4

    Set up review handling

A simple process for requesting and responding to reviews is put in place with whoever is closest to the customer.

  5. 5

    Report and adjust

Map actions and enquiries per branch are reported, and branches falling behind are prioritised the next month.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • Hours that fit your day, agreed up front

Which hours we overlap with yours is settled before any work starts, so you know when a reply is coming and when it is not.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Will a Business Profile just bring us more 1040 calls?
Some, yes. Write the description and services around business accounting and your niche, and most casual filers move on before they call.
We serve clients in four states. Should we list offices in each?
Only where you have a real office with staff. Anything else risks a listing being removed, and what you may claim about practising elsewhere is your state board's call.
Can we show different hours during busy season?
Yes. Set special hours for the dates you extend, and update them before the season starts. Put regular hours as the default. Wrong hours are a common cause of one-star reviews in a busy period, and a caller who finds a closed door will not come back.
Can we answer a review from a former client?
Only in general terms. Thank them, do not say whether they were a client, and do not mention any filing or number. Confidentiality rules apply to a public reply as much as to a letter. Invite them to call, and report the review if it breaks the platform's rules.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
