Paint stores · Buyer persona

Know the four people who buy paint and why each walks into a different shop.

A buyer persona for a paint store is a written description of one kind of buyer, covering how they decide, what they carry to the counter and what makes them return. GullySales builds the personas from your own painter register and counter records.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What buyer persona means

A buyer persona is a plain description of the kind of customer who actually buys from you. It includes what they search, what worries them and who else they ask before deciding. GullySales builds this from real enquiries and past sales rather than a generic template, then uses it to write every page and advert.

For paint stores

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The painter is the buyer the shop must understand first”

The painting contractor chooses the brand, the quantity and the dealer, buys on credit and returns to the counter that matched a shade last year. A persona for this buyer records the jobs, the credit limit and the call that goes unanswered when stock runs short.

  • “The homeowner chooses the colour and trusts the painter on the rest”

The family spends days on shade cards and hours on the wall photograph. The decision on brand and quantity is handed to the painter. A shop that speaks only about price meets a buyer who wants to talk about the room.

  • “The builder or society secretary buys on an estimate”

This buyer wants a project rate, a delivery schedule and a clear bill, and compares the dealer's quote with the contractor's. The questions are about dates and paperwork. A shade card means little to this person.

  • “The interior designer specifies and sends the client”

A studio chooses colours for a client and wants a trade rate, shade matching and delivery to a site the designer will not visit. The loyalty belongs to the dealer who treats the designer as a trade account.

What we do

What we deliver for paint stores.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Four written personas

One page each for the painter, the homeowner, the builder and the designer, built from your register and counter notes.

Result: Staff can describe each buyer in the same words.

  2. A decision map for each persona

What the buyer asks, who they consult and what makes them switch, written as a short sequence.

Result: The owner can see where each buyer might leave.

  3. A message plan per persona

The words, the channel and the offer suited to each buyer, such as a stock note for the painter or a consultation for the homeowner.

Result: No buyer receives a message written for someone else.

  4. Questions for the counter

A list of questions that staff ask to place a new buyer into a persona and record it.

Result: New buyers are recorded as a type and not only as a name.

  5. A review against the register

A comparison of the personas with the painters and owners who actually buy, adjusting the pages where the guess was wrong.

Result: The personas match the people in your register.

How the result is measured

  • Enquiry match to persona
  • Conversion rate by persona
  • Content aligned to persona

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who it is for

This is written for these paint stores.

  • Authorised dealers of a single paint brand
  • Multi-brand paint and hardware dealers
  • Paint stores with a tinting machine and a colour consultant
  • Wholesale paint dealers supplying painters and sub-dealers
  • Paint and building chemical stores selling waterproofing
  • Paint stores that supply builders and housing societies
  • Wood polish, melamine and automotive paint dealers
  • Small neighbourhood paint shops serving repaint jobs

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the buyer persona work runs

  1. 1

    Understand the current view

We start with how your team currently describes the customer, since the gap between belief and reality is often the finding itself.

  2. 2

    Audit past enquiries and sales

We look at recent enquiries and closed deals to see who actually bought, not who was assumed to buy.

  3. 3

    Interview customers and staff

Short, structured conversations surface the real language, worries and triggers behind a purchase.

  4. 4

    Build the personas

Findings are written into short, usable persona documents rather than a long report.

  5. 5

    Apply to your marketing

We show exactly where each persona should change a page, an ad or a script you already have.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

Your brief

Tell us what you need, and we will read it before we call.

Eight short steps about your business, what you want and who decides. Most questions are a tap, and you can skip any you would rather answer on the call.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Do we need personas if we know our customers?
The owner knows the customers. The staff, the new hire and the person writing your messages may not. Written personas keep everyone speaking to the same buyer.
How many personas should a paint store have?
Four are enough for a counter: painter, homeowner, builder and designer. Add a fifth only if a group buys in a different way, such as an institution or a factory.
Where does the information come from?
From your painter register, the credit book, the tinting record and a few conversations with regular buyers. We do not invent a buyer from general research.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
