Get on the shortlist when HR is told to stop running payroll on a spreadsheet.

The HR manager at a 140-person engineering firm closes payroll on the twenty-eighth of every month. Attendance comes from a biometric machine, leave from emails, and overtime from the shop floor supervisor's notebook. Last month two people were paid wrongly, and the finance head noticed before HR did.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

Realistic editorial illustration of software development companies at work in India

In one paragraph

Marketing for an HRMS provider means being the attendance, leave and payroll software an HR manager or founder finds when month-end payroll takes a week and the PF challan is late. Sales turns that search into a demo and a signed rollout. GullySales works on the provider's own pipeline, from pages for each company size to follow-up on trials that stalled.

That manager is not shopping for features. The questions are whether the software handles the PF, ESI and professional tax rules of the state, whether the supervisors will actually mark attendance, and whether someone picks up the phone on the twenty-seventh. The provider who answers those plainly is the one worth a demo.

How buyers decide

How HRMS providers are chosen.

The first search is payroll software for a given headcount, or attendance software for factory or field staff. The HR manager or the founder shortlists three products from Google, review sites and peers in an HR WhatsApp group, then asks for demos. Small companies ask their CA or payroll consultant, and that recommendation can close the search.

Three tests count. Does the payroll calculation match what the company already pays, for PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS? Does attendance work for the people it must work for: factory shifts, field sales on a phone, a branch with weak internet? And what happens on payroll day if something breaks? The CA or the finance head must also be satisfied, and in some companies the supervisors have a say too.

The problem

What usually goes wrong for HRMS providers.

What owners tell us on the first call, in their words.

  • “Buyers search by headcount and we write for everyone”

Our homepage speaks to a 5,000-person enterprise, while the owner of a 60-person company cannot tell whether the product fits.

  • “The decision sits with HR, finance and the CA at once”

A demo that wins the HR manager leaves the finance head with questions nobody answered, and the deal sits for a quarter.

  • “Trials start well and then nobody enters data”

The company signs up for a trial, uploads the employee list, and never runs a test payroll, because nobody was assigned to do it.

  • “Compliance worries kill deals late”

Statutory rules differ by state and change, and the buyer asks in the last call whether we handle their state, a question that should have been answered on the page.

  • “Attendance for factories and field staff is a different sale”

Shift workers, contract labour and sales staff on the road need different set-ups, but our pages treat attendance as one feature.

  • “Renewals depend on payroll going well”

A bad first month produces a quiet customer who does not renew, and we hear about it only at renewal.

What we do

What we do for HRMS providers.

Everything included for HRMS providers.

  1. Buyer pages by headcount and workforce

Separate pages for a 50-person office, a 300-person factory, a field sales team and a multi-branch retailer, each in the words that kind of HR team would use.

  2. A compliance coverage page you can defend

What the product calculates for PF, ESI, professional tax, TDS and leave, which states are covered, and what the customer's CA must still confirm. Reviewed by your own compliance lead.

  3. A trial activation sequence

A short set of messages and calls for the days after sign-up, asking the company to name one person to run a test payroll on last month's data.

  4. A finance and CA briefing sheet

A one-page note for the person who signs the cheque: how salary data is stored, who can see it, how payslips and statutory files are produced, and what can be exported.

  5. A CA and consultant referral pack

A short note, a demo account and an arrangement for CAs who run payroll for many small clients, with clarity on what they earn.

  6. A renewal conversation plan

A set of questions for customers ahead of renewal: did payroll run on time, who uses attendance, what is missing. Written so the answers go back to your product team.

How the result is measured

  • Demo requests by page and by company size
  • Trials started against trials that ran a test payroll
  • Demos that included finance or a CA
  • Paid accounts by source, including CA referrals
  • Time from trial sign-up to first payroll run
  • Customers who raise a problem before renewal

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Worth a page and a campaign of their own

Pages for each company size and each kind of workforce · Plain pages on which statutory payroll items the product covers · Trial activation: a named person on the buyer's side who runs a test payroll · Demos that include finance and the CA · Referral arrangements with CAs and payroll consultants · Biometric and device integration pages · Onboarding that gets the first payroll run through · A renewal conversation that reviews how payroll actually ran

Priority campaigns

Campaigns for what HRMS providers most want to sell.

Each one planned around when your buyers decide, and measured against the baseline.

  • Payroll software searches by headcount

Pages and search ads for phrases such as payroll software for 100 employees or attendance software for factory workers, with the state-wise coverage answered up front.

  • The wrong-salary story

Content for HR managers on the mistakes that happen when attendance and leave sit in different sheets, with a checklist for moving over.

  • Factory and field staff campaign

Outreach to manufacturers and sales organisations about attendance, shifts and geo-tagged check-ins, with a pilot at one plant or one team.

  • CA community presence

Talks and short notes at local CA chapters and payroll consultant groups on moving clients off Excel, with a clear referral route.

  • Trial rescue calls

For the trials that stopped right after the employee upload, a call from someone who offers to sit through the first test payroll with the company.

Beyond search

Where we reach buyers of HRMS providers, beyond Google.

Search matters, but it is rarely the only way this industry's buyers find a supplier.

  • Google search by headcount and industry

Searches name company size and workforce, for example payroll software for a 100-person factory. Pages that name both match what the buyer types.

  • Review sites and HR communities

HR managers ask each other on LinkedIn and in WhatsApp groups. A review request goes best to a customer whose payroll ran cleanly, and plain answers from your team suit those groups better than links.

  • CAs, payroll consultants and labour-law advisers

A small company asks its CA before buying, so this channel gets its own offer, separate from the one aimed at HR.

  • Trade bodies and industry associations

A manufacturers' association or chamber in your city is a place to offer a short talk for HR heads and owners on moving payroll off Excel.

  • Paid search and LinkedIn

A narrow spend aimed at company size and job title, so the ads go to HR heads and not to the general public.

Who it is for

This is written for these HRMS providers.

  • HRMS and payroll software products for small and mid-sized companies
  • Attendance and shift software for factories and warehouses
  • Field force tracking and attendance apps for sales teams
  • Payroll software sold through CAs and payroll consultants
  • Recruitment and onboarding software vendors
  • Performance and appraisal software firms
  • HR tech start-ups selling to Indian startups and IT companies
  • Reseller partners of larger HR platforms

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

How the work runs for HRMS providers

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

    Understand who you sell to

Your requirements brief, plus a talk through which company sizes, industries and workforce types you win with, and which you lose.

  2. 2

    Fix the pages

Buyer pages, a compliance coverage page and a finance briefing, written with your product and compliance people.

  3. 3

    Set up the trial path

A trial activation sequence and a demo format that brings finance and the CA into the room.

  4. 4

    Open the referral channel

A pack for CAs and payroll consultants, with clear terms you control.

  5. 5

    Follow the account to renewal

Each enquiry is logged from source to demo to trial to paid account, and what customers say about their first payroll is passed back to your product team.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

GullySales builds every engagement from three pieces of sales work. This page is not one of them, but the same three steps apply to the business behind it.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions HRMS providers ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Do we need a separate page for each state's payroll rules?
Only a clear coverage page. Rules differ by state and change, so say which states the product handles and tell buyers to confirm specifics with their own CA or adviser. Do not promise compliance outcomes on the page.
How do we sell to a company that already uses Excel?
Show the month-end week. Ask who prepares payroll, how long it takes and where mistakes have happened. Selling a replacement for a habit is easier when the buyer says the cost out loud.
Is the CA a channel or a blocker?
Both, depending on how you treat them. A CA who runs payroll for ten small clients may bring several of them if the product saves the CA's team time. One who feels bypassed can end a deal with a single sentence.
Can HRMS be sold on WhatsApp?
The first conversation, yes, since many HR managers keep WhatsApp open all day. The demo, the finance questions and the contract still need a proper meeting, so use WhatsApp to book those.
How is GullySales paid?
Not from a rate card. We start with your requirements brief, then put in writing how the cost divides between our time, what you spend on ads and listings, and production work.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and we tell you which applies to you after we have spoken. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
To start, last month's enquiries in any format and time with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
