Railway station advertising · Marketing

A platform is twenty minutes of waiting with nothing else to read.

Dwell time is the whole argument, and a railway platform has more of it than almost any site in India. A passenger stands fifteen or twenty minutes with a bag at his feet and patchy signal on his phone. He will read what is in front of him twice.

In one paragraph

Railway station advertising buys a named site inside one station: a platform hoarding, a foot-over-bridge panel, a pillar wrap or a digital screen, held for a fixed period. GullySales checks what the appointed contractor genuinely has free, picks sites by where passengers wait, and gets the artwork cleared before printing.

The rights are the complication. Station advertising is contracted out by the railway administration to an appointed agency, by station or by division, for a term. What you can buy is whatever that contractor still has unsold, so availability is a question rather than a rate card.

Two different audiences share one building. A suburban platform sells the same commuters every morning, which is one local catchment repeated. A junction where outstation trains halt sells a whole district, and its crowd changes completely in the summer holidays.

The problem

Does this sound like your business?

What owners tell us on the first call, in their words.

  • The train was parked in front of the hoarding

A panel on the far wall is read across an empty track. With a rake standing at the platform it is invisible, and at a busy station something is standing there most of the day.

  • Nobody saw the site before it was booked

Station sites are sold off a list with a number and a size against each. The awning of a tea stall, a new footbridge or a pillar in front of it never appears on that list.

  • The artwork came back for clearance

Content, size and material go through the standards that station works to and the contractor's approval. Installation then happens at night, in the gaps between trains.

  • A fortnight at the junction reached nobody twice

Outstation passengers are a fresh crowd each week. Short cycles work on a suburban platform full of the same faces and buy very little at a junction.

What we do

Everything that is included.

Each deliverable, and what it gets you. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Availability, asked properly

What the contractor for that station actually has free in your dates, instead of the full list of sites that exist on paper.

  2. Sites chosen by where people wait

The seating end of the platform, the foot-over-bridge landing and the booking hall queue, weighed against panels a train stands in front of.

  3. Sightline checked in person

Somebody stands where the passenger stands. Awnings, stalls, boards put up since the photograph and the position of the lights only show up from there.

  4. Formats priced for the same period

Platform hoardings, girder and pillar panels, foot-over-bridge sites and digital screens compared side by side, with the loop length asked for on anything digital.

  5. Clearance and the installation night

Artwork built to the exact panel size and submitted for clearance ahead of the night it goes up, with a proof you sign before printing.

  6. A response route that works here

A campaign number and a missed-call line rather than a QR code. Signal on a platform is poor and nobody waits for a page to load with a train coming.

  7. Dated photographs, twice

Pictures of the site in place at the start of the cycle and again during it, taken from where a waiting passenger actually stands.

How the result is measured

  • Sites running as booked, with dated photographs
  • Display days delivered against display days paid for
  • Calls to the campaign number and the missed-call line
  • Enquiries and walk-ins from the station's catchment, before and during
  • Rate booked against the first quote

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, then reported every month against it.

Who it is for

This is written for you if these sound familiar.

  • Hospitals, diagnostic centres and coaching institutes in a district town whose patients and students arrive by train
  • Local services in a suburban catchment, where the same commuters pass the same platform twice a day
  • Jewellers, sari shops and furniture showrooms whose buyers come into town for the day and go back
  • Builders launching near a station, advertising to the people whose commute the project is meant to shorten
  • Brands who want steady presence in one town without paying a main-road hoarding rate for it

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Businesses that need to prove which enquiry the panel produced, because a platform keeps no record of anybody
  • Sellers whose buyers travel by car and have not walked into a station in years
  • A single short cycle at an outstation junction, where the crowd is new every week and a fortnight reaches almost nobody twice

How it works

No open-ended retainer. Each step has a point in time and something you receive.

  1. 01 · Day 1

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later month has an honest comparison.

  4. 04 · Month 1

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. 05 · Every month

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words.

  6. 06 · Month 3 to 6

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. No twelve-month lock.

How the railway station advertising work runs

  1. 1

Settle the station and the platform

We agree whether you are buying daily commuters or outstation arrivals, then which platform and which end of it those people stand on.

  2. 2

Ask the contractor what is free

The appointed contractor for that station is approached for real availability in your dates, and the rate is negotiated against what is unsold.

  3. 3

    Go and look

Shortlisted sites are seen from the passenger's position before anything is confirmed. Anything blocked comes off the list, whatever the photograph showed.

  4. 4

    Clear it, then print

Artwork goes through clearance ahead of the installation night, and the flex or panel is printed to the exact size the site takes.

  5. 5

    Watch the cycle

Photographs at the start and mid-cycle, with anything torn, faded or covered taken back to the contractor while the cycle still has time to run.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every monthly report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No lock-in, no guarantees we cannot keep

Three to six months at a time. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Who do we actually buy a station site from?
Advertising rights for a station sit with a contractor appointed by the railway administration for a term. You buy from that contractor or an agency under them, which is why two sellers can quote the same platform at different prices. We find who holds the station and deal there.
Which site inside a station is the best one?
Wherever people are stuck standing. The seating end of a platform, the landing of a foot-over-bridge and the queue at the booking window each hold people for minutes. A panel facing a track that has a train in front of it most of the day is worth far less than its rate.
Can you tell us how many enquiries it brought?
Not on its own. A platform records nothing about who stood there. We put a campaign number on the panel and read enquiries and walk-ins from that catchment before and during the cycle, which gives a direction rather than a count.
Should we put a QR code on it?
Rarely at a station. Signal on a platform is unreliable and a passenger watching for his train will not stand waiting for a page to open. A short number he can ring later, or a missed-call line, gets used far more.
Is this the same as advertising on trains?
No. Coach exteriors, interiors and the space on a ticket are bought separately and sit under transit advertising. This is the station itself, where your audience is standing still instead of moving past.
How is it priced?
There is no published price. A pillar panel at a small suburban halt and a hoarding at a junction are not comparable, so the media cost follows the sites we recommend. Our fee is settled after the free audit, separate from that cost and from printing the panel.
How long is the contract?
Three to six months at a time. There is no twelve-month lock, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile usually show in weeks, because the enquiries already exist. Ads show in days once follow-up is ready. SEO and content take months. The audit tells you which applies to you.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 45 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the monthly review.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Every month is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. Terms run three to six months at a time, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
