Competitor marketing analysis · Marketing

See how your competitors market themselves before you decide how to market yourself.

An owner knows who the competitors are, but has not always sat down and looked at what those competitors actually do online. Which pages do they build, what do they say in their ads, who links to them, and what do they post? Until someone reads all of it side by side, you are guessing, whether you copy them or ignore them.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

A team comparing market research and competitor information

In one paragraph

Competitor marketing analysis is a one-off, paid study of how named competitors present and promote themselves: their websites, advertising, backlinks, social media and, for local businesses, their standing in your own area. GullySales gathers what is publicly visible and writes up what it means for your marketing decisions.

This is a study of marketing, not a sales battlecard. If your reps need a live comparison for deal conversations, that is our competitive intelligence work. Here the question is what the rivals' websites, ads, links and social pages tell you about where your own marketing should go.

We read your requirements brief first, then agree the scope and the fee in writing. The scope names the competitors, the channels and, for a local business, the area. Nothing starts until you have agreed to it.

The problem

Does this sound like your business?

What owners tell us on the first call, in their words.

  • “We copy rivals without knowing if it works for them”

A rival posts reels every day or runs a particular offer, and it is copied. Nobody checked whether that rival has any enquiries to show for it.

  • “Rivals appear above us and we do not know why”

Their pages rank for searches you care about. Whether that comes from content, links, location listings or a faster site is a question nobody has answered.

  • “We cannot see what rivals are advertising”

Ads run on Google, Meta and other platforms, and an owner does not see the same ones twice. The offers, the wording and the landing pages go unread.

  • “The nearest competitors are not the ones we studied”

A local business watches the big national name while the clinic, showroom or coaching centre two streets away takes the enquiries from the same map search.

What we do

Everything that is included.

Each deliverable, and what it gets you. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Competitor selection

Agreeing which businesses to study, including the ones you name and the ones who appear when your buyers search for what you sell.

  2. Website analysis

How each competitor structures its site, what it offers on each page, what it asks a visitor to do and how it behaves on a phone.

  3. Advertising analysis

The ads each competitor runs that are publicly visible, covering the wording, the offer and the page the ad leads to. Check the platform's current rules on what its ad libraries show.

  4. Backlink and search review

Which sites link to each competitor and which searches their pages appear for, so you can see where their visibility comes from.

  5. Social media review

Which platforms each competitor uses, what they post, how they present themselves and how their audience responds.

  6. Local competitor review

For a business that serves an area, the nearest competitors on the map, their listings, ratings and reviews, and how they present themselves locally.

  7. Written findings and implications

A document that sets out what was found for each competitor and what it means for your own choices, with the evidence behind each point.

How the result is measured

  • Competitors covered, as named in the written scope
  • Differences between your pages and theirs on offer, structure and calls to action
  • Competitor ads found in public ad libraries, with the offers they make
  • Sites that link to competitors and do not link to you
  • Nearby competitors that appear for your local searches

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Who it is for

This is written for you if these sound familiar.

  • An owner about to plan next year's marketing who wants to know what rivals are doing before choosing channels
  • A clinic, school or retailer facing new competitors in the same locality
  • A manufacturer or dealer who keeps losing enquiries to rivals that appear higher on search
  • A business about to rebuild its website that wants to see how rivals structure theirs
  • A founder entering a crowded market who needs the field mapped before spending on ads

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Businesses that want a pricing and objection brief for sales calls, which is competitive intelligence
  • Anyone expecting private figures such as a rival's revenue, ad spend or customer list, since the study uses public information only
  • Owners hoping the analysis will on its own raise enquiries, because it informs decisions and the work that follows is separate

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the work runs

  1. 1

    Requirements brief

You tell us who you compete with, which decision the study should inform and what you already know. We read it and talk to you.

  2. 2

    Scope and fee in writing

We agree which competitors and channels are covered and what you receive, and the fee goes in writing before any work starts.

  3. 3

    Collect public information

We read each competitor's website, advertising, links, social pages and local listings, using only what anyone can see.

  4. 4

    Compare and interpret

We set the competitors against each other and against you, and separate what is working for them from what only looks busy.

  5. 5

    Written findings

The findings reach you in writing and we talk you through them. Any marketing work that follows is scoped and agreed separately.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

#257, 3rd floor, Sri Nanjundeshwara Complex, Nagarbhavi 8th Block, Outer Ring Road. How we work.

Engagement options

Ways to work with us.

Pick the size of commitment that fits. Every option starts with your brief and a conversation.

  1. Option 1

    The conversation on its own

A call after you send your brief. It says honestly whether you need outside help, and many fixes are ones your own team can make.

  2. Option 2

    One fix, scoped

Start with the fix that matters most, such as reply time or follow-up. The fee is in writing before anything starts.

  3. Option 3

    An ongoing programme

We run the work, report against the baseline, and you renew on the numbers. The term and the reporting are agreed in writing first.

  4. Option 4

Guidance for your own team or agency

We plan, brief and check the work of your in-house team or current agency, instead of replacing them.

How much does a competitor marketing analysis cost?
It is a paid piece of work, and the fee depends on the number of competitors and channels covered. We agree the scope and the fee in writing after reading your requirements brief, before any study begins.
How is this different from competitive intelligence?
Competitive intelligence is built for your sales team, with pricing, claims and answers for live conversations. This study looks at marketing: websites, ads, links, social and local presence. A business can buy both, and each has its own scope.
Will you find out what my competitors spend on ads?
No. Platforms show the ads a business runs in public libraries, but spend is not something we can read, and we do not estimate it. We report what is visible and say what is not.
Do I need to share any accounts with you?
Not for the study of competitors, which uses public information. If you want the findings compared with your own website or listings, we may ask for view access, and that is agreed in the written scope.
Can I just ask for the local competitors?
Yes. A study of the nearest competitors on the map is a smaller scope than the full set of channels. Tell us in the requirements brief and the written scope will cover only what you need.
Do platform rules affect what you can look at?
Yes. Each platform changes what its ad libraries and public pages show from time to time, so check the platform's current rules. We note any limit that affects your study.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
