Guests who find you on Instagram and then book you on a booking app
A guest who saves your reel and then books you on an app was never shown a way to reach you directly. Put a booking link and a WhatsApp number in the bio and in every reel.

Your reels get views, the DMs stay quiet, and bookings through the apps keep rising. Some of those app guests are your reel's viewers. They did not choose the app. They looked for a way to book, found none on your profile, searched your name, and the app came up first. Fix the path before you film another reel. Put a booking link and a WhatsApp number in the bio. Put the number on the last frame and in the caption of every reel. Then ask each guest at check-in how they found you, so you can see how many came this way.
Where the guest drops off
Follow one guest. The guest sees your reel of the pool at golden hour, taps through to your profile and reads "Boutique stay, North Goa, DM for bookings". Messaging a stranger and waiting is not what the guest came to do, so the guest copies the name, searches it, and the first result with a "Book now" button is the app. You have just paid commission on a guest your own video found.
Two things make it worse on Instagram in particular. A web address typed into a caption cannot be tapped, so "book at our site" in the caption sends nobody anywhere. And reels travel without your profile. When a guest forwards your reel to the family WhatsApp group to ask "shall we?", the people deciding see the video and a handle, not your bio. If the number is not inside the video, it is not in the conversation.
Many guests in Goa move between Google, Instagram and the booking apps before they pay, judging photos, recent reviews and how fast a WhatsApp question is answered. The reel did its part. The profile did not.
The bio that takes the booking
Four lines, and every one of them does a job:
[Property name] · [area], North Goa
Book direct: [your one reason to book with you]
WhatsApp [your number]
[link to a page with this season's dates and rates]
Choosing that reason is covered in getting direct bookings when the booking app takes a cut; here it only has to fit on one line.
The name on the first line should match your Google listing and your app listings exactly, so the guest who does search finds you rather than a near-miss. The link goes to a page with dates and rates, or straight to a WhatsApp chat, not to your home page. And the number is written out, because some guests will screenshot the profile and message later from WhatsApp.
What every reel carries
Show the room. Every property on the coast can film the sunset. Only you can film the room the guest will sleep in, the bathroom, the view from the bed.
End on a still frame with your WhatsApp number in large type and one line: "WhatsApp to book direct". Hold it long enough to screenshot.
Write the number again in the first line of the caption, with the reason to book direct beside it.
Then add a code word. "Send MONSOON on WhatsApp for rain-season rates" or "Send POOLVILLA for dates". The word that arrives tells you which reel brought the guest, with no tracking software and no links to break. Planning reels around rooms and code words, rather than around views, keeps them tied to bookings.
Count "Instagram, then app"
At check-in, ask every guest two questions and write both answers: where did you first see us, and where did you book? Your booking records already hold the second answer. The first is the one nobody writes down.
The rows that read "Instagram, then app" are the measure that matters. Your reels found those guests. The app took the commission. If that column shrinks while WhatsApp bookings with code words grow, the path is working. If it does not, look at the bio and the last frame again before you blame the reels.
Once several people answer the same number, the WhatsApp Business API can tag each enquiry by its code word on arrival, so the count does not depend on the receptionist's memory.
Imagine three villas in Assagao
Imagine a property of three pool villas in Assagao. Its reels of the pools and the paddy at sunset did well. The owner saw few direct messages and decided Instagram brought views, not bookings. Meanwhile bookings through the apps were rising.
The mistake showed up only when the receptionist started asking the check-in question. By then a season of those guests had already paid the apps their commission. Six of the fourteen app guests that month (illustrative figures) had first seen the villas on Instagram. The bio said "DM for enquiries" and gave no number. The reels ended on a sunset with no text at all.
Repairing the path took a weekend. The bio was rewritten in the four lines above. The last frame of every new reel carried the number. Captions led with a code word, and the old reels got the number added to their captions. The receptionist kept the two-column record. The first code-word booking came from a family in Pune who sent POOLVILLA with their dates. From then on the owner could read, row by row, which reels brought bookings and which brought only views.
When reels are not the problem
If a code word arrives and the person on the phone does not know that reel's offer, the guest gets "please wait". Brief whoever answers before a code-word reel goes up.
If your rooms are already full from repeat guests and the apps, more reels add little. Spend the time on the guests you have.
And if you have nothing to show but the beach, Instagram is a weak channel for you, because the beach belongs to everyone. For a different product with the same path problem, see Instagram to checkout.
Change the bio tonight and count from tomorrow
Put the four bio lines in tonight, and add your number to the captions of your three most-watched reels. From tomorrow, ask every guest the two check-in questions. Once a few dozen have checked in, count the "Instagram, then app" rows. Keeping the bio, the last frames and the code words in step through the season is Instagram and Facebook page management; if you want that planned around what the count shows, tell us what you need.
