E-commerce · Beverages

People who love filter coffee will not order it online if we cannot say how it is ground.

Coffee buyers have a method. They use a South Indian filter, a moka pot, an AeroPress, a French press, a pour-over or a machine that takes capsules, and the right grind for one is wrong for another. A listing that does not ask how they brew sends the wrong bag to half of them.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Coffee e-commerce is the online sale of roasted beans, ground filter coffee, chicory blends, instant coffee, capsules and cold brew, by estates, roasters and brands, to home brewers and offices. GullySales works on how a coffee is described for the way it is brewed, how roast dates and grind are shown, and how a first bag becomes a standing order.

The roaster has the second problem. Freshness is the whole case for buying from a small roaster, and the buyer wants the roast date, not a best-before date a year away.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell coffee online.

  • Estates in Chikmagalur, Coorg, Wayanad, the Nilgiris and the Araku valley selling directly
  • Small roasters selling specialty beans and subscriptions
  • Filter coffee brands selling chicory blends and ground packs to families
  • Cold brew, drip bag and capsule brands selling to offices and home users

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A roaster who cannot roast to order or label the roast date, but wants to sell on freshness
  • A brand with an ordinary blend and no point of difference, selling against national names on price

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of coffee.

  1. The brewing method decides the grind

Filter, moka, espresso, French press, pour-over, AeroPress. The buyer picks a grind by method, and a page without a grind selector gets returns or a wrong order.

  2. Roast date, roast level and origin

Light, medium or dark, a roast date on the bag, and the estate or region. Specialty buyers read these before the price, and filter coffee buyers ask about chicory content.

  3. Tasting notes

Chocolate, citrus, jaggery, nutty. Buyers of specialty coffee use tasting notes to choose, and a short note in plain words beats a paragraph of adjectives.

  4. Subscription and bag size

Two-hundred-and-fifty-gram bags suit a household drinking a few cups a day, and a kilo suits an office. Buyers want to set the grind and the size once and have it arrive.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell coffee online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Customers return the coffee because the grind was wrong”

A returned bag of coffee is a loss. A grind selector tied to the brewing method, set before checkout, ends most of them.

  • “Subscribers cancel after two or three bags”

They tried the beans and nothing new comes. Rotating an origin, a small sample of the next one and a note on how to brew it keep the subscription alive.

  • “Offices ask for coffee but we sell in kilos to homes”

A workplace wants volume, a standing delivery and one invoice. A separate page and a quotation form for offices wins it, not a consumer listing.

What we do

What you get for coffee.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A grind and method chart

Which grind goes with which brewer, shown at the point of choosing, so fewer bags are ground wrong.

  2. A roast-date and freshness statement

A plain line on each listing saying when it was roasted, how it is packed and how long it holds its taste.

  3. A tasting card for each coffee

Origin, roast, notes and a recommended brewing method, printed in the bag and shown on the page.

  4. An office supply page

Volume bands, delivery arrangements and a quotation form for workplaces and cafes.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Return rate
  • Wrong-grind returns

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your coffees with origin, roast and prices
  • Your store, marketplace and Instagram links
  • Return and complaint reasons, especially about grind
  • Subscribers and how long each has stayed
  • Office, cafe and wholesale customers, if you have any

Selling in India and abroad

Selling coffee beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Roasted coffee travels well

Sealed bags of roasted beans or ground filter coffee keep reasonably on a long route, and Indian specialty and filter coffee has buyers among the diaspora and coffee lovers abroad. Weight in grams or ounces and the roast date should be on the pack.

  2. Green beans are a trade sale

Estates selling green coffee to roasters abroad deal with importers and agents, not consumers. Rules on import and labelling are confirmed with your adviser.

FAQ

Questions about selling coffee online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I get repeat orders for coffee?
Make the second bag easy: remember the grind and the roast, and send a reminder before the bag ends. Subscribers also stay longer if a new origin turns up now and then. We plan this from your own reorder pattern.
Should I write roast date on the bag and the page?
Yes, if freshness is why a buyer picks you. A specialty buyer looks for it first. If you do not roast to order, say how old the bag is, since buyers trust a straight answer more than a claim.
Is it worth selling coffee on marketplaces?
For filter coffee and instant coffee, yes, since buyers search there by brand and weight. For specialty coffee, your own store and Instagram carry the story. The audit looks at where your buyers already are.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
