GullySales

E-commerce · Food and drink

Our food is different, but the buyer has no way to check that before paying.

A specialty food is bought for a reason that is not obvious from the pack. The buyer is avoiding something, following something, missing something or trusting someone. So the page has to do what a shopkeeper would: explain what it is, show the proof, and answer the question the buyer is afraid to ask.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Specialty food e-commerce is the online sale of organic, gluten-free, vegan, imported and regional foods, to buyers who choose a product for a diet, a belief, a place or a craving they cannot satisfy at the nearest shop. GullySales works on how the product is explained, how the proof behind it is shown, and how a small brand gets found by the people who need it.

That proof has a cost. Words like organic, gluten-free and vegan carry rules and certificates in this country and in others, and a seller who uses them without support is a risk to the brand. What a label or a page may say is for your adviser and the food regulator, not for marketing.

GullySales has done this kind of work. For Bon Millette, a millet snack brand, we built a site that sets out the brand story, the certifications and the full ingredient list in the order a first-time buyer asks for them. For Divya Agros, which works with farmers and sells organic produce, we planned and built the site its certificates had never had.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for specialty foods differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell specialty foods online.

  • Organic farms and brands selling produce, grains, oils and staples directly
  • Gluten-free and allergen-aware bakers and packaged-food brands
  • Vegan food makers, from plant-based milk to meat alternatives and sweets
  • Importers of cheese, pasta, sauces, chocolates and other foods from abroad
  • Regional food makers selling a speciality outside its home state

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who uses organic, gluten-free or vegan on a label without being able to show what stands behind the word
  • A brand that wants marketing to cover a gap in its documents or its supply

How buyers choose

What decides who wins in specialty foods.

  1. Proof before price

A certificate, a lab report, the name of the farm, a licence number on the pack. The buyer looks for it before the price, and a page that holds it in one place is read.

  2. Ingredients and what is left out

Specialty buyers read the full list, including what is absent. A line about cross-contact or shared kitchens matters to a household that has to avoid something.

  3. Where it comes from

A farm, a district, an importer or a family recipe. A buyer is paying for a source, and the page should name it.

  4. What the buyer is replacing

A vegan milk instead of dairy, millet instead of wheat, a gluten-free bread, an imported pasta. They compare it with what they already use, on taste and on price.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell specialty foods online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Buyers do not trust a label they cannot check”

Anyone can print a word on a pack. A page that shows documents, the farm or the maker, and the process in plain steps is the only answer to doubt.

  • “Our market is small and spread across many cities”

The customers who need a gluten-free flour or a regional pickle live everywhere, a few in each town. Search, communities and marketplaces reach them better than local ads.

  • “Supply and shelf life limit what we can promise”

Specialty lines run on small batches and limited stock. A page that shows what is in stock and when it will be restocked is better than one that takes orders it cannot fill.

  • “Imported foods cost more and are harder to explain”

A buyer compares an imported item with a local one, and needs a reason for the difference: origin, taste, a use in a recipe.

What we do

What you get for specialty foods.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A proof page for each product

One place holding the certificate, the source, the ingredients and the process, linked from the listing and the pack.

  2. A buyer's-questions guide

The questions a specialty buyer asks, answered in plain words on the page and ready for WhatsApp.

  3. A stock and restock notice

A way to show what is available and to collect names for the next batch, so supply and promise match.

  4. A community and creator list

The groups and people worth approaching for your product, with what to send and what not to claim.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Return rate
  • Proof and ingredient queries before purchase

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What the work involves for specialty foods

  1. 1

Read the proof you already hold

In the free audit we go through your certificates, labels and listings, and the questions buyers ask, to see what a stranger can and cannot check.

  2. 2

Put the proof on the page

A proof section and a buyer's-questions guide for each product, with wording checked by your adviser.

  3. 3

Find the buyers who need it

Search pages, communities and marketplace listings built around the need, with the baseline of orders recorded first.

  4. 4

    Match supply to demand

Stock notices and restock lists, so that what the page promises is on the shelf.

  5. 5

    Measure against the baseline

Results are reported against the baseline, with the reporting arrangement agreed in writing after the audit.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your certificates, test reports and licence details
  • Your product list with ingredients and sources
  • Your store, marketplace and Instagram links
  • Questions buyers ask on WhatsApp, and returns
  • Stock levels and batch sizes through the year
  • Any advertising that a platform has refused or limited

Selling in India and abroad

Selling specialty foods beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Indian specialty food has buyers overseas

Millet, organic spices, regional pickles and sweets are sought by Indians and by health-conscious buyers abroad. Labels, certificates and ingredient declarations are checked against each country's rules with your adviser.

  2. Imports come the other way

Sellers of imported foods have the reverse problem: importer paperwork, shelf life and labelling in India. We begin with your own sales data and the platforms you already use.

Proof

Where we have worked on something close.

These are published case studies of real clients. Each shows only the results that were recorded, and none of them is a promise about your store.

All case studies
  • Bon Millette

    Situation
A new food brand has to look trustworthy before anyone will try it, and Bon Millette had nothing online for a first-time buyer to weigh up.

    • A site that matches the food
    • The story in a trust-building order
    • Product sections with full disclosure
    • A short path from reading to buying
    Result

FAQ

Questions about selling specialty foods online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Can I use the words organic or gluten-free on my page?
Only if you can document them and the rules allow it. These words are regulated, and your adviser or the food regulator tells you what applies to your product. We write what you can show and put the proof beside it.
How do I reach buyers for a niche food?
Look where they already are: search for the need, groups that follow the diet or the region, and marketplaces with attribute filters. A broad ad to the whole city reaches mostly people who do not need it.
Do I need a website if I already sell on marketplaces?
For specialty foods, yes. A marketplace listing has no room for the proof, the story or the answers. Your own site is where a careful buyer checks you out, even if they then order elsewhere.
Can you work with a very small brand?
Yes. The audit starts with what you sell and to whom, and we scope the work to what you can supply. If your stock is thin, we tell you to fix supply before spending on reach.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
