GullySales

E-commerce · Specialty Foods

We import the real thing, and the buyer compares our price with a local copy.

Imported food competes with an Indian version of itself. A Bengaluru buyer can find a locally made pesto or a tinned tomato at half the price, so the seller has to say what the import is: the origin, the producer, the way it tastes, what dish it is for.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

International food e-commerce in India is the online sale of imported cheese, pasta, sauces, chocolates, biscuits, olive oil, Asian ingredients and other foods from abroad, to buyers who cook or gift them. GullySales works on explaining why the imported item is worth its price, on showing dates and storage, and on finding cooks, cafes and gift buyers who look for it.

The buyer is also cautious. A cheese or a jar that is shipped a long way and sits in a warehouse may be close to its date on arrival, and one expired tin is enough to lose the customer.

Last updated 7 Oct 2026. Product, labelling and advertising rules for specialty foods differ by product and change. We describe them in general terms, so check the current position with your own adviser or the regulator before you publish a claim.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell international foods online.

  • Importers and distributors of European, Japanese, Korean, Thai and American foods selling to consumers
  • Gourmet stores adding an online counter for imported lines
  • Sellers of imported snacks, chocolates and sweets popular with young buyers
  • Cafes and small restaurants buying imported ingredients in bulk

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller without clear dates, storage and import papers for each line
  • A trader who sells grey-market stock and cannot say where it came from

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of international foods.

  1. Country, producer and what it is

Italian pasta, Korean noodles, Thai curry paste, Greek olive oil, a named Japanese snack. Buyers search by country and by the brand they saw abroad.

  2. Best-before and storage on arrival

A buyer of an imported item looks at the date straight away. They want the date on the page, and for cheese and chilled items, how it was kept.

  3. What the label says in India

Imported foods carry local labelling and importer details. What must be on a pack is for your adviser and the regulator, and buyers do look at it.

  4. How to use it

A Korean gochujang or a Japanese miso is bought by someone who has had it in a restaurant and wants to cook with it. A recipe on the page makes the sale.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell international foods online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Short-dated stock puts us in a bind”

A product with a short date is hard to sell at full price. Showing the date, discounting honestly and grouping such items into a clearance list is better than hiding it.

  • “Buyers compare us with a marketplace seller of the same item”

The same jar of olive oil appears at several prices. The page needs the source, the date and the storage to explain why yours is not the cheapest.

  • “Customs delays make it hard to promise stock”

Imported stock arrives when it arrives. A page that shows what is in the warehouse today and takes names for the next shipment is better than one that takes orders it cannot fill.

What we do

What you get for international foods.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A listing standard with date and storage

A fixed set of lines on every imported product: country, producer, date, storage and the importer's details.

  2. A cuisine landing page for each country you stock

A page for each cuisine, grouping products by dish, with recipes and where each product fits.

  3. A short-date and clearance page

A place to sell stock close to its date, openly labelled, so it does not hurt your reputation.

  4. A trade price list request form

A form for cafes and restaurants, asking what they cook and in what quantities, to quote the right products.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Return rate
  • Date and origin queries before purchase

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your product list with country, producer and import details
  • Stock with batch dates and storage conditions
  • Marketplace listings and prices of similar sellers
  • Customer questions and complaints, especially on dates
  • Cafe and restaurant customers, if any

Selling in India and abroad

Selling international foods beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Selling out of India means a different business

An importer of foreign food in India is not set up to re-export. If you also sell Indian products abroad, that is a separate line with its own labelling and import rules.

  2. Sourcing from the countries you sell the cuisine of

Your overseas contacts are suppliers more than customers. Your own sales data shows which countries' products sell, and which suppliers deserve more shelf.

FAQ

Questions about selling international foods online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I explain why imported food costs more?
Say what it is and who made it, and show the date and storage. Buyers accept a higher price when the product is clearly different from a local copy. A recipe or a taste note helps more than a claim.
Can I sell imported cheese or chilled items online?
Only where you can hold the cold chain from the warehouse to the door. Many importers deliver chilled lines only inside the city, and ship dry goods further. We map the split with you.
What labelling does an imported food need?
Imported foods are regulated in India, and the rules change. Your adviser or the food regulator can tell you what the label must carry. We write the page from the label as it stands.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so
