The syllabus changed in April and half the shelf is now the wrong edition.

Students buy a particular book for a particular class, board and year. Not the nearest one. The wrong edition is useless to them, and a parent who realises that on the first day of term will not come back. Accuracy is the product.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Educational books are the school textbooks, guides, workbooks, exam preparation titles and question banks that students and parents buy for a board, a class or a competitive exam. GullySales builds pages by board, class and exam, keeps editions straight, and sets up the bulk route for schools and coaching centres.

The year is short and violent. Orders pile up in the weeks before school reopens and before an exam, and quiet down afterwards. Schools and coaching centres buy in numbers, and the family buys one set at a time.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell educational books online.

  • Sellers of textbooks and guides for state boards, CBSE, ICSE and other school boards
  • Sellers of competitive exam preparation books and previous-year paper collections
  • Publishers of workbooks, practice papers and revision guides
  • Booksellers supplying schools, coaching centres and tuition teachers in bulk

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • A seller who cannot keep the edition and syllabus year current. Pages that go out of date damage the shop.
  • Sellers with no stock outside the term rush. We would say the cost of ads at peak will exceed the margin.

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of educational books.

  1. Board, class, subject and year

The search is a stack of facts: class nine social science, state board, current year. A page that has all of them in the title and the first line is found, and a page that has some is passed over.

  2. Exact edition and publisher

A student's school names the book, the publisher and the edition. Parents compare against the list in hand, so the listing must match the school's wording, down to the author.

  3. Set or single book

At the start of a term families buy the whole set of a class. A set page with every book and one price is the easiest way, and it should also show what is missing from the school's own list.

  4. Exam papers and answer keys

For competitive exams, buyers want the year of the last paper included, the answer explanations and the format of the latest pattern. They check when the book was printed.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell educational books online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Orders for the wrong edition come back after the term begins”

Mismatch is the main return. Show the edition year and the board prominently, and let the buyer check against a photograph of the school's list.

  • “Everyone orders in the same fortnight and we cannot fill them”

A short peak needs stock, packing and carriers lined up before ads run. Pre-orders for the sets open earlier and spread the load.

  • “Schools tell parents to buy from them”

A school may supply books or name a vendor. Your route is to approach the school office and offer a list-based set with delivery, through a quotation and a call.

  • “Coaching centres order by phone and nobody tracks it”

A coaching centre's bulk order can repeat every year. A record of the centre, the titles and the date of the next order is the follow-up.

What we do

What you get for educational books.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A set page for each class

All the books for a class in one list, with edition and a set price. It saves the parent a day of searching.

  2. An edition check tool

A simple page where a buyer enters the school's book list and sees the match. It removes the wrong edition returns.

  3. A school quotation pack

A list of books, bulk terms, delivery and a contact. It lets an office place an order without a long call.

  4. A pre-order calendar

The dates by board for stocking, opening pre-orders and last dispatch. It spreads the rush.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Average order value, by set
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Return rate for wrong edition
  • Quotation requests from schools and centres

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your list of textbooks and guides with board, class, year and edition
  • Syllabus change notes you track
  • Sales by week for the last term
  • Schools and coaching centres who already buy from you
  • Return reasons, especially wrong edition

Selling in India and abroad

Selling educational books beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Indian curriculum abroad

Families outside India follow Indian boards at some schools and want books by class. Look at your own platforms for existing orders from overseas.

  2. Weight and edition territory

A full set is heavy, and some editions are meant only for sale in India. Check postage and your publisher's terms before you list.

FAQ

Questions about selling educational books online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

How do I stop returns for the wrong edition?
Put board, class, edition year and publisher in the title, and ask the buyer to compare with their school list. Add a message option for anyone unsure. Most wrong editions are bought because the page did not say.
Should I sell to schools or to parents?
Both, with different pages. Parents buy a set once a year at the last minute. Schools buy in bulk and may repeat. The audit shows which brings your orders now.
Is it worth advertising educational books through the year?
Mostly no. The peaks are before school reopens and before the exam dates. We would plan the spend for those and use the rest of the year to build lists and pages.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.
