Your pictures are good, but the buyer's search never reaches them.

A buyer of a stock photo has a layout open and a gap in it. The search is for a concept, not a photographer: Indian family at dinner, small shop owner with phone, monsoon street in Bengaluru. If your image is not found for that phrase, it was not for sale.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Stock photos are licensed images that designers, publishers, agencies and businesses buy to use in their own work. GullySales works on keywords and captions, a library people can search by idea, licence pages that settle the buyer's doubts, and a route for repeat buyers who need pictures every week.

That puts the work in the tags, the titles and the structure of the library, more than in the photography. A great picture with one keyword is a picture nobody uses.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell stock photos online.

  • Photographers with a large archive that is not selling
  • Small agencies and collectives of photographers selling on their own site
  • Sellers of regional and Indian-life images that the big libraries cover poorly
  • Videographers selling short clips alongside photographs

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Photographers whose work depends on recognisable people or places without releases or permissions. That has to be sorted with a legal adviser before any marketing.
  • Those who want to compete with the large international libraries on volume. A narrow collection that the big ones lack is the opening.

How buyers choose

What decides the sale of stock photos.

  1. Search by idea and by setting

The buyer types a scene or a mood, adds a colour or a location, and scrolls fast. Captions and keywords in plain words, including Indian ones such as kirana, rangoli or auto-rickshaw, decide what is returned.

  2. Licence type

A magazine, an advertising agency and a blogger need different rights, and the buyer needs to know what their purchase allows before paying. Editorial or commercial use is the first thing checked.

  3. People in the picture

If an identifiable person appears, the buyer asks whether a release exists. A statement on the page that releases are held, if that is true, removes the worry.

  4. Resolution and the file they receive

A designer checks pixel dimensions and format, and often wants the full-size file before paying. Preview sizes and the delivered size need to be exact.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell stock photos online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “We have thousands of pictures and sell a few”

A thin, unkeyworded archive is invisible. Starting with the few hundred strongest images, tagged properly, gives the library something that sells and teaches which tags work.

  • “Buyers download the preview and use it”

A watermark that is too faint is used for free, and one that is too heavy puts the buyer off. The balance is checked by looking at your own preview downloads against sales.

  • “Agencies buy once and we do not hear again”

A design studio needs images every week, and a single purchase is the start of the relationship. A credits pack or a simple account for repeat buyers keeps them with you.

  • “Our pictures look Indian but are labelled generic”

A page that says family at home is lost among a million others. One that says south Indian family, filter coffee, steel tumbler is found by the buyer who needs exactly that.

What we do

What you get for stock photos.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A keyword guide for your subjects

The words buyers use for each subject you shoot, with Indian terms and local places. It makes the same photograph findable.

  2. Themed collection pages

Pages by festival, trade and region. They answer searches for a subject and not only for a single photograph.

  3. A licence page

What each licence allows, in short sentences, with an example of a permitted and a forbidden use. It settles the question that stops purchases.

  4. A buyer account and credit offer

The sign-up and bundle for an agency that buys often. It converts a single sale into a regular buyer.

How the result is measured

  • Searches that returned your images
  • Preview views
  • Purchases
  • Average order value
  • Repeat buyer rate
  • Licence questions received

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your library link or a sample set of fifty images
  • Current titles and keywords, even if poor
  • Sales and download records by image
  • Information on model and property releases you hold
  • A list of past buyers and what they used the images for

Selling in India and abroad

Selling stock photos beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Foreign buyers want images of India that are not clichés

Publishers and travel companies abroad look for real settings, not the postcard set. Collections made with that in mind, such as working life or regional food, give a reason to buy from you.

  2. Licence terms and currency

A buyer overseas pays in their own currency and often needs a licence document for their records. What they need and how you provide it is something to set up before you advertise abroad.

FAQ

Questions about selling stock photos online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should I sell through a big stock library or my own website?
Both can work, but for different pictures. The large libraries bring volume at a low price for each image. Your own site suits a distinctive collection, where you set the price and keep the buyer's details.
How many keywords should each photograph have?
Enough to describe what is in it and what it means, but only true ones. A long list of loosely related words brings the wrong buyer and a refund. Aim for the words you would say if you were asked to describe the picture.
Do I need releases for photographs of people?
For commercial use, buyers usually ask. The rules vary by use and country, so take advice from a lawyer who handles photography before you sell, and say on the page what you hold.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
