GullySales

E-commerce · Software and digital products

You make the file once and sell it again and again, but only if people can find it.

Digital downloads need nothing shipped and nothing stocked, so the economics look easy. Then the catch shows: the file cannot be held, so the buyer is judging a preview, a title and a licence line. A weak preview loses the sale, and an unclear licence loses it quietly, because the buyer does not ask. They leave.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Digital downloads are files a buyer pays for and receives straight away: e-books, templates, stock photographs, graphics, sound and printables. GullySales works on how your files are found, how the preview and licence are shown, and how a one-time buyer is brought back to buy the next file.

The second problem is supply. A buyer who finds one good template needs a reason to look at the other forty, and sellers rarely give one. Bundles, collections and a short email after the purchase do more for revenue than another advertisement for the same file.

Where you sell matters too. Etsy, your own Shopify or WooCommerce store, Instagram and a WhatsApp catalogue all work for different files. We start with where your sales already come from and which files sell more than once.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell digital downloads online.

  • Independent designers and illustrators selling templates, graphics and packs
  • Photographers and videographers with a library of stock images or clips
  • Authors, teachers and coaches selling e-books, workbooks and guides
  • Musicians and sound designers selling loops, effects and tracks
  • Sellers of printable planners, invitations and wall art on Etsy or their own store

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Sellers with a handful of files that nobody asks about. The first thing to fix is the files, not the marketing.
  • Anyone who wants to resell other people's files without the right to do so. We will not market that.

How buyers choose

What decides who wins in digital downloads.

  1. The preview is the product

A buyer sees a mock-up, a watermarked sample or a few pages. If the preview does not show what the file looks like in use, it does not sell.

  2. Personal or commercial licence

A designer buying a font or a template needs to know if they can use it for a client's job. If the licence is buried in a download, they pick a seller who states it up front.

  3. Format and software

The buyer checks the file type and the programme it opens in: PSD, Canva, PDF, WAV, EPUB. A mismatch means a refund request on a file that cannot be returned.

  4. Delivery, immediately

The expectation is a link in the inbox and on the thank-you page in seconds. A delay, or a link that fails on a phone, produces a message to you and a bad review.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell digital downloads online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “Our files sell once and the buyer never returns”

The purchase confirmation is the best-read email you send, and it usually carries only a link. It should show the related file and the bundle that holds it.

  • “People share our files in a group”

A file cannot be taken back, so the response is to make buying easier than sharing: a fair price, updates for the buyer and a licence they can show a client.

  • “We are lost among thousands of similar listings”

A search on a marketplace returns your file on page six. Titles, the first image and the tags must match what the buyer types, and a narrower niche beats a broad one.

  • “Buyers ask for a refund after downloading”

A refund on a file already downloaded is hard to judge. Clear previews, format notes and a stated policy before payment cut these requests.

What we do

What you get for digital downloads.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A listing rewrite for your top files

New titles, first lines and tags for the files that already sell. It makes the best sellers easier to find.

  2. A preview brief

A page of direction for each file type on what to show. It makes the preview do the job of a sales person.

  3. A licence summary

A short, plain table of what is allowed and what is not, placed on each product page. It stops the quiet loss of designers who needed to be sure.

  4. A post-purchase email set

The emails after a first purchase and after a repeat purchase. They bring a one-time buyer back for a second file.

How the result is measured

  • Product page visits
  • Purchases
  • Average order value
  • Repeat purchase rate
  • Bundle share of sales
  • Refund requests by reason

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What the work involves for digital downloads

  1. 1

Audit the listings and the buying path

We look at where buyers find your files, how each listing reads, and what happens after payment. The audit call and its scored report are where this is looked at.

  2. 2

Choose the files that carry the shop

The few that sell, and the ones that should but do not, get attention first. A long catalogue is worked in groups.

  3. 3

    Rewrite listings and previews

Titles, descriptions, tags and preview images are redone for the chosen files, along with the licence line.

  4. 4

Set up the emails and bundles

The confirmation email, the related-file offer and the first bundle go in place, with tracking so repeat purchases can be counted.

  5. 5

    Measure against the baseline

Visits, purchases, order value and repeat buyers are compared with the baseline taken before work began. Reporting arrangements are agreed in writing once the audit is finished.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your store, Etsy shop or website links
  • Your best-selling files and the last year's order list
  • Your current licence terms, even if informal
  • Any messages from buyers asking about format or refunds
  • A list of buyers with email addresses where they agreed to hear from you

Selling in India and abroad

Selling digital downloads beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Some of your buyers may already be overseas

A digital file does not care where the buyer is. Your own marketplace and payment data will show which countries already buy, and we start with those.

  2. Language of the listing, units of the file

Print files need paper sizes the buyer uses: A4 in most of the world, US Letter in the United States. A mistake there produces a refund request.

  3. Tax and payments on digital sales

Rules on tax for digital goods sold across borders vary and change. Your chartered accountant should say what applies before you sell to a new country.

FAQ

Questions about selling digital downloads online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should I sell on Etsy or on my own website?
Start where the buyers already search, which for many printables and templates is Etsy. Then build your own store and email list alongside, so a marketplace change does not end your income. Use your sales data to see the split.
How do I stop my files being shared for free?
You cannot stop it completely. Make the legitimate purchase worthwhile with updates, a clear licence and support, and keep delivery links personal to the buyer. Spend little time on those who would never pay.
Are bundles a good idea?
Yes for files that are bought together, such as a set of social post templates in one style. They lift the order value and hold buyers to your catalogue. A bundle of unrelated files looks like clearance and cheapens the rest.
Do I need a licence for each product?
You need a clear licence for the shop, with any exceptions stated on the product. Repeating the full text on every page is not necessary, but a one-line summary on each page is.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped in the free audit and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so
