Pharmacies · WhatsApp marketing

Make the WhatsApp number the first place a prescription is sent, not the last.

WhatsApp marketing for a pharmacy is using one business number to take prescriptions, confirm stock, agree delivery and send consented reminders, with nothing in it that promotes a prescription medicine. GullySales works on the ordering flow, the range you may show, and the rules about who gets messaged.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What WhatsApp marketing means

WhatsApp marketing is sending updates, offers and reminders to customers on the app most Indian buyers already check daily. GullySales sets up business WhatsApp, writes the message templates and keeps the list consented and current.

Last updated 17 Oct 2026. Rules for this trade differ by state and professional body, and they change. We describe restrictions in general terms, so check the current position with your own council or adviser before you publish anything.

For pharmacies

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The prescription arrives as a blurred photograph”

A customer sends a picture taken in poor light, with no name and no address. The reply must ask for every missing detail in one message, not four. A fixed order flow that staff follow turns a scrap of paper into an order.

  • “A personal phone cannot run a pharmacy's chat”

When the number belongs to one pharmacist, orders vanish on a day off and customers' private details sit on a phone that can be lost. A business number with named staff and a clear hours message keeps the counter answering.

  • “Messaging every contact in your phone is the wrong use”

A list that never agreed to hear from you gets annoyed, blocks the number and exposes you to complaints about consent. Permission asked for at the counter, and written down, is the base for every reminder.

  • “A catalogue of medicines is advertising”

Showing prescription medicines with prices to the public is promotion the drug laws restrict. The catalogue belongs to devices, baby care, personal care and surgical supplies, while prescriptions are handled one to one. Check the platform's current rules and your own adviser's view.

What we do

What we deliver for pharmacies.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A business number set up for the counter

Profile name, address, hours, an away message for the hours you are shut, and a list of staff who may answer.

Result: A customer reaching the number at night sees when you will reply.

  2. A prescription order flow

The questions to ask, the stock and substitute check, the bill, the payment request and the delivery slot, written as a script for staff.

Result: Each prescription is handled in the same order by every shift.

  3. Consent capture at the counter

A line on the bill desk or a card that asks permission to send reminders, with the answer recorded against the household.

Result: You know who has agreed to hear from you.

  4. A non-prescription catalogue

Devices, baby care, personal care and surgical supplies listed with names and photographs, and no prescription medicines on it.

Result: Customers can browse what you may promote without a call.

  5. Reminder message templates

Short refill reminders written for the platform's approval process, with a reply to order and no promotional content.

Result: Reminders go out in a form the platform accepts.

  6. Payment and delivery wording

Plain messages for sending a payment request, confirming the amount and telling the customer when the order will reach them.

Result: Customers are never unsure what they owe or when to expect the order.

How the result is measured

  • Messages delivered
  • Reply rate
  • Enquiries from WhatsApp

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

What to capture or send

What the chemist's WhatsApp number receives and sends.

Prescription photo
The time it arrived, the customer's name and whether the photo is readable. If it is blurred, the reply asks for a clearer one before anything is picked.
Availability reply
Which items are in stock, which need ordering and when the customer can collect or receive them, as far as the shop can stand by it.
Delivery details
Address, the person who receives and the payment choice, in a short saved reply. Payment by UPI is confirmed on the bill, not in chat.
Consent to refill reminders
A reply of yes, recorded with the number and date, taken at the counter or in the first chat. No yes means no reminders.
Non-prescription catalogue entry
Baby care, devices and wellness items listed with a plain name. No prescription medicine appears in the catalogue.

Who it is for

This is written for these pharmacies.

  • Independent neighbourhood chemists
  • Pharmacies attached to a clinic or nursing home
  • Hospital pharmacies serving outpatients
  • Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras and generic medicine stores
  • Multi-outlet local pharmacy chains
  • Franchise outlets of national pharmacy brands
  • Surgical and medical equipment stores
  • Pharmacies stocking Ayurvedic and homoeopathic medicines
  • Twenty-four hour and late-night pharmacies

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • The number is a personal phone shared with family, so customer chats would mix with private ones.
  • You plan to message every contact in the phone with offers; those people never asked for that and the platform may restrict the number.
  • Nobody can read the chat during the evening rush, and a prescription photo left unread sends the customer elsewhere.

How it works

How the whatsapp marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

Read the chats you already have

We read how customers write to you, which questions repeat and where a chat goes quiet. The repeated questions decide what gets automated first.

  2. 2

Sort the list and the permission

Contacts who asked to hear from you are separated from numbers that only sit in a phone book. We agree the wording new contacts will see before they say yes.

  3. 3

Choose the app or the API

One phone and a small team can stay on the ordinary app. Several people on one number, templates or a CRM link need the API through a provider, which is its own piece of setup work.

  4. 4

Write the replies and the plan

The greeting, away message, saved replies and handover rule are written in your words and approved by you. The message plan and its templates follow.

  5. 5

    Connect the record and test

Each link carries its source line and each chat lands in the CRM. We test on real phones, including a customer who asks for a person.

  6. 6

    Read the unanswered questions

A question the first reply could not answer becomes a new saved reply or a fixed handover. Stop requests are watched too, with the number's quality rating where the API is used, since both show a message plan that has gone too far.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 0, foundation. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Do we need the WhatsApp Business app or the API?
The Business app suits a single counter with a few staff. A provider connected to the platform's API suits several outlets or automatic reminders. Check the platform's current rules and costs before choosing.
Can customers pay on WhatsApp?
Send a payment request or link through your usual UPI or payment provider and confirm the amount in the chat. Keep card numbers and bank details out of the conversation, and tell customers you will never ask for them.
Do we need the WhatsApp Business app or the API?
A single shop does well with the Business app; check the platform's current rules. The reason is that the API adds cost and setup that only a multi-outlet chain needs. The app gives a catalogue, saved replies and labels.
Can customers pay on WhatsApp?
Share a UPI payment link or the shop's QR code from the Business number, and confirm on the bill. Check the platform's current rules on payments in chat. The reason to keep the bill separate is that it must carry the details the pharmacy rules require.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
