Medical device manufacturers · Sales strategy

Decide between chasing government tenders and building private hospital accounts.

A sales strategy for a medical device manufacturer sets out whether to prioritise government and institutional tenders, private hospital direct sales, or distributor-led growth. The choice depends on your certifications, pricing and service capacity. GullySales builds this around where your past orders have actually come from.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What sales strategy means

Sales strategy is deciding which customers to chase, through which channel and at what price, instead of every salesperson working their own way. GullySales sets this plan against your actual pipeline and the deals you have won and lost so far.

For medical device manufacturers

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Tenders and private hospitals reward different strengths”

Winning tenders usually rewards price and documentation discipline, while private hospital sales reward relationships and service, and a strategy needs to pick where to invest effort.

  • “Distributor-led growth needs enablement, not just recruitment”

Signing more distributors without giving them the specification content and pricing tools to sell confidently rarely produces the growth expected.

  • “Export markets need their own sales strategy”

A strategy for export distributors has to account for different regulatory approvals, currency and service expectations than the domestic market.

What we do

What we deliver for medical device manufacturers.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. Tender versus hospital investment plan

A clear call on how much sales effort goes toward government tenders against private hospital direct sales, based on your past order sources.

Result: Effort goes where your actual strengths already win business.

  2. Distributor enablement plan

A plan for equipping distributors with specification content and pricing tools alongside recruitment, not recruitment alone.

Result: A new distributor can sell your device without constant hand-holding.

  3. Export market entry plan

A plan accounting for the regulatory approval, currency and service expectations of each export market you target.

Result: Export effort goes toward markets where you are actually approved to sell.

  4. Order-source review before strategy changes

A review of where your past orders actually came from before any change to the sales strategy is made.

Result: Strategy changes are based on your own history, not a guess.

How the result is measured

  • Win rate
  • Average deal size
  • Pipeline coverage against target

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

Choices a sales strategy makes

Make these calls from your tender file, hospital accounts and distributor orders.

Which device to lead with
Rank your devices by registration status, service readiness and margin. Lead with one that holds its CDSCO registration and has spares stocked and engineers trained, before a newer model still awaiting paperwork.
Which hospital type to approach next
Group past orders by buyer: corporate chains, nursing homes, government hospitals, diagnostic centres. Approach the type where your installations run without service complaints and a biomedical engineer will take a reference call.
How a demo request becomes a purchase order
Write the steps: enquiry, specification sheet, demonstration, evaluation by biomedical and clinical teams, quotation, purchase committee, PO, installation. Check recent lost deals for the step where they stalled.
Who sets price across distributors and tenders
Name one person who owns the price list for every distributor and tender. Compare recent quotes from different distributors to the same hospital; any mismatch is the case for that owner.
Which tenders to skip
Read each tender's eligibility, warranty and service clauses against what you can support in that state. Skip the ones whose service terms you cannot meet; a missed service commitment follows you to the next purchase committee.

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • You want a guaranteed Google ranking or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody honest can promise either.
  • You need enquiries by next week and have nobody to answer them.
  • You want posts and reach reported, not enquiries and orders.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is reply time, a follow-up sequence, the page buyers land on or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the sales strategy work runs

  1. 1

    Review the current approach

We study how the business currently targets customers, sells and prices its offer.

  2. 2

    Assess the market

Segments, channels and competitors are reviewed against where genuine opportunity sits.

  3. 3

    Develop the strategy

Clear direction is set on where to focus and how to reach it.

  4. 4

    Document and present

The strategy is written up and presented, with a plain explanation of the reasoning.

  5. 5

    Plan implementation

A practical roadmap for the first steps is agreed before the engagement closes.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

We already have a marketing plan. Where does this one start?
The marketing plan decides which device category and which market to promote. This one decides how your team works a tender file, a hospital account and a distributor territory week by week.
How often should this be revisited?
At least twice a year, and immediately after a significant tender result or a new distributor agreement.
Our founder is a biomedical engineer who sells every deal. How do we scale that?
Record what the founder does in demonstrations and evaluation meetings: the questions biomedical engineers ask and the answers that worked. Turn that into a demo script and an objection sheet, train an application specialist on it, and keep the founder on purchase committees and large accounts until the specialist can carry them.
When should we add a regional sales manager instead of another distributor?
When a region has enough hospitals buying direct that the distributor's margin costs more than a salary, or distributors there quote inconsistently and lose deals. Check that region's past orders and service calls. A distributor suits scattered small buyers; a regional manager suits a cluster of large hospitals wanting direct contact.
Should our product pages state the device's risk class?
Yes. Under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, each device falls in class A, B, C or D, and a biomedical engineer checks that class against your licence. Showing both on the page saves a round of emails before the demo.
Can we name the hospitals that already use our device?
Only with each hospital's written permission, and stated as a fact rather than an endorsement. Many hospitals refuse, so we plan the page to work without names. An installation count by city or specialty is a safer form of proof when you can verify it.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
