Borewell and drilling contractors · Referral marketing

Turn a neighbour's good word into a steady source of jobs.

Referral marketing for a borewell contractor is the work of turning past customers, pump dealers and plumbers into a steady source of introductions. Most bores are sold on a neighbour's word. GullySales designs the thank-you, the record and the follow-up so that referrals are asked for properly and counted.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For borewell and drilling contractors

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “The best referrers are not the customers”

The pump dealer and the plumber meet the owner before the contractor does. They name a contractor out of habit, and the habit follows the one who treated them fairly.

  • “A dry bore turns a customer into an enemy”

An owner whose bore was dry tells the village. If they were told the risk in writing and treated fairly, they may still recommend you for the next one.

  • “Commission to middlemen drives up the rate”

A fixed cut to an agent is added to the customer's bill. The owner feels it, and tells the next one.

What we do

What we deliver for borewell and drilling contractors.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. List of referral sources

Pump dealers, plumbers, electricians, input shops and society secretaries in your area, named and noted by how many jobs each has sent.

Result: You know whom to look after.

  2. Referral field on every enquiry

A line in the register asking who sent the customer, filled at the first call and checked when the job is signed.

Result: Every referral is credited to a name.

  3. Thank-you routine

A call or a visit from the owner to each referrer once a referred job is signed, with a token agreed in advance.

    Result: The referrer feels remembered.

  4. Message for customers to forward

A short WhatsApp message with the contractor's name and a number that a happy customer can forward to a neighbour, with their consent.

Result: A recommendation takes one tap.

  5. Fair terms for dealers and agents

A written, open arrangement with pump dealers and any agent, saying what is paid, when and for what.

Result: The people who recommend you know where they stand.

  6. Referral count by source

Referred enquiries, signed jobs and referrers listed against the baseline, with no number invented where the record is empty.

Result: You see which relationships bring in work.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals work in this trade

The people who send customers to a borewell contractor, what prompts each and how to thank them.

Past customers whose bore is working
Ask at handover or when you call after the monsoon. Give the owner a message to forward to a neighbour. Record their name against any enquiry that mentions them and thank them once the neighbour signs.
Pump and motor dealers
Buy your pumps from the dealer where the price is fair, tell the dealer of each new bore and leave their card with the owner. Credit the dealer in the register and thank them in person.
Plumbers and electricians
They are called when the supply fails and see the problem first. Give them your number, explain what you do and pay on time for any fitting you subcontract.
Society secretaries and facility managers
One good job for one society is read by the secretaries of others. Offer a written maintenance plan and a record sheet that the secretary can show the committee.
Builders, architects and layout developers
A site engineer who saw your crew finish on time will name you for the next project. Keep a short list of completed sites they can visit, with the owner's permission.
What never to do
Do not promise water in return for a recommendation, do not pass a customer's details to anyone without asking, and do not hide a payment to an agent inside the customer's bill.

Who it is for

This is written for these borewell and drilling contractors.

  • Domestic borewell contractors
  • Agricultural borewell and drip-line contractors
  • Rotary and DTH rig operators
  • Housing society and apartment borewell contractors
  • Industrial and commercial borewell contractors
  • Borewell flushing, cleaning and repair contractors
  • Pump installation and motor repair firms
  • Rainwater harvesting and recharge pit contractors

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Your last few bores were disputed on depth or yield, so a referral would carry the dispute with it.
  • You plan to pay pump dealers or middlemen for sending customers, which pushes up the rate the owner is quoted.
  • You have no record of past customers, so nobody can be asked.

How it works

How the referral marketing work runs

The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.

  1. 1

Read the margin and the relationship

We work out what a new customer is worth and what you can pay to get one, then check whether customers know others like themselves.

  2. 2

Find the referrals you already get

Your invoices, call notes and WhatsApp threads show who already sends people to you, and who they are. That sets the starting point and the first people to ask.

  3. 3

Write the offer and the rules

The reward, the definition of a valid referral and the payout steps are agreed in writing before anything is shown to customers.

  4. 4

Build the share path and the record

The message, the link or code and the referral sheet are built. Your team tests a referral end to end, from forward to reward.

  5. 5

Start with your best customers, then widen

The first asks go to people who have already praised you. What they say about the offer decides what changes before it reaches the wider base.

Where this fits

Three pieces of sales work, in this order.

This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 7, after the sale. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.

  1. Step 1

    Sales audit

Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.

Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.

  2. Step 2 · you are here

    Sales process design

One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.

Start here if every salesperson sells differently.

  3. Step 3

    Sales management

A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.

Start here if the team has targets and no routine.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Should we pay a pump dealer who sends a customer?
Decide it in writing and keep it open and small. Some contractors prefer supplying that dealer's pumps for their own jobs. A hidden payment added to the customer's bill damages trust once it is found, so say what is paid.
How do we ask a satisfied owner for a referral?
Ask when you hand over the job sheet and the bore is giving water: if a neighbour needs one, send them to us. Do not ask an owner whose balance is pending or whose bore is giving trouble.
Can we offer a discount to neighbours of past customers?
You can, if you offer it openly and keep it small. A neighbour drilling the same week saves the rig's move, so a discount for adjacent plots is a fair reason. Write the condition so it does not look like a favour to some.
What should we never do?
Never promise water to win a referral, never share a customer's number without their consent and never claim a referral that did not happen. Each of these costs more than the job it brings.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
