Grocery stores and supermarkets · Referral marketing

Get your best families to bring the neighbours they gossip with.

Referral marketing for a grocery store means giving regular families an easy, honest way to tell neighbours where they shop. GullySales sets up the ask, the thank-you and the record of who sent whom.

Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means

Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For grocery stores and supermarkets

Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.

  • “Referral is left to chance”

A satisfied family tells two neighbours once, and nothing in the store makes it happen again.

  • “A referral reward costs more than the first basket”

A big cash offer pulls in discount-chasers who leave after one order, and the store pays twice.

  • “Nobody records who sent whom”

A new family says a friend suggested the store, the friend is never thanked, and the next referral does not come.

What we do

What we deliver for grocery stores and supermarkets.

Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.

  1. A simple referral card or message

A card at billing and a WhatsApp message that a family can forward, with the store name, delivery area and how to place a first order.

Result: Telling a neighbour takes one tap.

  2. A thank-you that suits a grocery store

A small thank-you for the family that referred, such as a hamper item or a free delivery, agreed in advance and kept modest.

Result: A referrer feels thanked without being bought.

  3. A first-order welcome for the new family

A message that greets the new family by name, mentions who sent them if they agree, and offers help with the first list.

Result: The new family has a pleasant first experience.

  4. Apartment ambassador plan

A friendly resident in each tower who takes group orders or spreads word, with a clear and fair thank-you.

Result: A tower becomes a steady area for the store.

  5. A source field in your register

A column in the customer register that notes who referred each family and the first order value.

Result: You can see which families bring more families.

  6. Reporting on referred families

The count of new families from referrals, the repeat rate and the basket, against the baseline.

Result: You see whether referral is worth more of your effort.

How the result is measured

  • Referrals received
  • Referral conversion rate
  • Cost per referred customer

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How referrals work here

Where grocery referrals come from, and how to make each one easy and fair.

Long-standing regular families
They need an easy way to pass your name on. Give them a forwardable message with the delivery area and a small thank-you for each new family they bring.
Resident association and tower ambassadors
A friendly secretary or resident can share the store in the tower group. Ask for permission, keep the message useful, and thank them without paying cash.
Neighbouring shops and services
A pharmacy, tailor or tuition centre can recommend you to their customers and you can do the same. Keep it a mutual courtesy, not a commission scheme.
Staff and delivery team
Your delivery boys meet families daily. Give them a short script and the store card, and thank them when a referral turns into a first order.
Recording the source
At the first order, ask how the family heard of the store and write it in the register. A referral you did not record cannot be thanked.
What never to do
Do not offer large rewards, pay for reviews, message people who did not agree, or ask the same family again and again. A referral is a favour, not a transaction.

Who it is for

This is written for these grocery stores and supermarkets.

  • Neighbourhood kirana and provision stores
  • Supermarkets of one or two floors in a locality
  • Small chains of three to ten stores in one city
  • Fruits, vegetables and fresh produce stores
  • Organic and natural food stores
  • Milk booths and bakeries that also carry provisions
  • Stores inside gated communities, where the association decides who delivers
  • Imported and specialty food stores

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Your brief

You tell us what you need in a few short steps: your business, what you want, where enquiries come from and how they are handled.

  2. After the brief

A conversation and a written scope

We read it, then talk with whoever handles your enquiries. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come in writing, and nothing starts before you have read them.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

The numbers this work is meant to move, such as enquiries, quotations, orders, visits or renewals, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

The fix we agreed to start with is put in place and measured against the baseline, whether that is a reply, a follow-up, a page, a listing or the handover between marketing and sales.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

How the referral marketing work runs

  1. 1

Understand your margin and customer relationship

We agree what reward is genuinely sustainable and appropriate for your business and customer type.

  2. 2

    Audit existing informal referrals

We check how much word of mouth already happens, to size expectations for the formal programme realistically.

  3. 3

    Design the offer and mechanism

A specific reward and an easy sharing method are built and tested.

  4. 4

    Implement and promote

The programme is surfaced at the right moments in your customer journey.

  5. 5

    Measure and adjust

We track referrals and conversions, adjusting the reward or promotion if uptake is low.

Why us

Why owners pick GullySales over an agency.

  • Marketing and sales, as one job

Most agencies stop at the enquiry. We also fix what happens after it: the reply, the follow-up, the quote and the CRM.

  • The person on the first call does the work

No account managers in between. You are never handed to someone you have not met.

  • A baseline before anything starts

Your numbers are written down on day one, so every later report compares against something honest.

  • The fee in writing, split three ways

Our time, your media spend and production on separate lines. You always see what goes to us.

  • No guarantees we cannot keep

The term is agreed in writing and never a default twelve months. We never promise a ranking or a lead count, because nobody controls those.

  • One office, and we say so

Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru. We work across India by call and WhatsApp and travel when a session needs to be in person.

FAQ

Questions owners ask before they call.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

What reward should we give a family that refers a neighbour?
Something small that fits a grocery store, such as free delivery on the next order, a packet of a staple or a thank-you note. Keep it modest, so the referral is about trust and not about the prize.
How do we know who sent a new family?
Ask at the first order and write it in the register. A referral code on the card makes it easier, but the question at billing works too.
Can we ask a resident association to promote us?
Yes, if you ask the secretary politely and the association's rules allow it. Offer something of use to the residents, and never post without permission.
What if we ask regular families too often?
Ask once after a good order and again only after a long gap. If the same family is asked every week, it will stop answering, and the request will start to sound like an advert.
How much does it cost?
There is no price list, because the work differs by business. The fee is scoped after we have read your brief and spoken to you, and put in writing before anything starts, split into our time, your media spend and production.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after we have spoken, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
It depends on the trade, the channel and what is already in place. After we have read your brief and spoken to you, we say what we would expect to move first and how it will be measured against the baseline. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you speak to before anything starts. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
Your brief, and a conversation. After that, access to whatever this work touches, such as your website, your accounts or your enquiry record, and time with the people who handle your enquiries.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
