Auto repair shops · Referral marketing
Be the garage somebody names in the apartment group chat.
Referral work for a garage is getting your customers and the trades around you to put your name forward. It is the reply in an apartment group, the used-car dealer who needs an inspection, and the agent whose client has just had a bump. GullySales sets up the ask and the standing arrangements.
Scope, fee, reporting and term are agreed in writing after we have read your brief and spoken to you.

What referral marketing means
Referral marketing is asking an existing customer to recommend you to someone they know, usually with a reward for both sides. It differs from a loyalty scheme because it brings in a new customer rather than a repeat purchase. GullySales builds the ask and the reward into a point where a customer is already satisfied.

For auto repair shops
Where it usually goes wrong, and what we would do.
“The question gets asked in a group you cannot post in”
Any good garage near Nagarbhavi. It comes up in an apartment group most weeks and the answer is whichever name a resident remembers. Your customer can post it, you cannot.
“The trades that see the car before you do”
Tyre shops, battery dealers, car washes and used-car dealers all meet a driver who is about to need a mechanic. Three standing arrangements send more work than a hoarding.
“Money for insurance claim work is not a simple commission”
Arrangements that pay an agent for directing claim repairs sit in regulated territory and put both sides at risk. Be useful instead, with a clean estimate and photographs the surveyor can process, and ask your own adviser before any payment is involved.
What we do
What we deliver for auto repair shops.
Every deliverable, what it covers for you, and the result it is there to produce. Nothing here is an extra.
A card the customer can forward
Your number, the localities you cover and the services you want more of, written to fit a message rather than a pinboard.
Result: A resident answering the group question has something to paste.
The handover ask for a referral
One line at the counter when the car goes back, asking the driver to pass the number on if a neighbour asks, with no scheme attached to it.
Result: Referrals stop depending on a customer thinking of it on their own.
Standing arrangements with nearby trades
A written understanding with a tyre shop, a battery dealer and a car wash covering who sends what and how each side is credited.
Result: Work arrives from the shop three doors down.
A pre-purchase inspection offer for used-car dealers
A short inspection format and a price a dealer can quote to a buyer, prepared for the dealers within reach of your workshop.
Result: Dealers send inspection work and the repairs that follow it.
Agent and surveyor outreach with no payment attached
A one-page note for local insurance agents on how your workshop handles claim documentation, photographs and estimates.
Result: Agents name you because the paperwork is easy, not because of a cut.
How the result is measured
- Referrals received
- Referral conversion rate
- Cost per referred customer
Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.
How referrals reach a garage
A garage is recommended by customers, by the trades around it and by the people who see the damage first.
- Customers in a society group
- Write the reply you would want a neighbour to post when someone asks for a mechanic: your name, the locality and the makes you handle. Hand it over at billing so it can be pasted unedited.
- Used-car dealers
- A dealer needs a pre-sale inspection and a clean service history before a car leaves the lot. Offer a checklist report with your garage name on it, and ask the dealer to give it to the buyer.
- Tyre, battery and accessory shops
- They see the car before you do and cannot fix what is under it. Agree which jobs go to whom, and tell them which work you will not take, so your names do not clash.
- Insurance agents and surveyors
- Give agents a note on the cashless networks you are on, the documents you need and who answers their call. A surveyor's report must stay independent, so offer nothing for it.
- Job card line
- Add a line on the job card for how the customer heard of you: a name, a group or a dealer. Read those lines when you decide which dealer or agent deserves a visit.
- What never to do
- Never give a customer's number to a dealer or agent without asking, and never run down a rival garage in a group. A complaint posted in the same group undoes the recommendation.
Who it is for
This is written for these auto repair shops.
- Multi-brand service garages
- Authorised brand service centres
- Denting and painting specialists
- Two-wheeler service centres
- Fleet and commercial vehicle service providers
- Insurance-claim repair specialists
Not for
It is not the right fit if.
- The garage returns cars late or with the fault still present, so asking a customer to recommend it would send new drivers to the same problem.
- The garage has no way to note who sent a new driver, so a thank-you would go to the wrong person or to no one.
How it works
How the referral marketing work runs
The work itself, in order. How an engagement starts, from your brief to a written scope, is set out on our method page.
- 1
Read the margin and the relationship
We work out what a new customer is worth and what you can pay to get one, then check whether customers know others like themselves.
- 2
Find the referrals you already get
Your invoices, call notes and WhatsApp threads show who already sends people to you, and who they are. That sets the starting point and the first people to ask.
- 3
Write the offer and the rules
The reward, the definition of a valid referral and the payout steps are agreed in writing before anything is shown to customers.
- 4
Build the share path and the record
The message, the link or code and the referral sheet are built. Your team tests a referral end to end, from forward to reward.
- 5
Start with your best customers, then widen
The first asks go to people who have already praised you. What they say about the offer decides what changes before it reaches the wider base.
Where this fits
Three pieces of sales work, in this order.
This work sits inside sales process design, at stage 7, after the sale. The audit comes before it, and sales management keeps it running.
Step 1
Sales audit
Find where deals are being lost and what to fix first.
Start here if you cannot say where orders are lost.
Step 2 · you are here
Sales process design
One written way to sell, from first enquiry to repeat order.
Start here if every salesperson sells differently.
Step 3
Sales management
A target, a review routine and someone who owns the number.
Start here if the team has targets and no routine.
