GullySales

E-commerce · Tools, hardware and building

The site has a thousand products and the contractor still phones to ask whether you have the size.

Hardware is the most boring catalogue to read and the most urgent to buy. A hinge has snapped, a door will not lock, a wall needs filling before the painter comes on Monday. The buyer knows the problem and rarely knows the product name, and a page that begins with the maker's name does not help.

A 90-minute audit call and a written, scored report. Turnaround, reporting and term are agreed in writing after the audit.

In one paragraph

Hardware and building supplies are the screws, locks, hinges, adhesives, cement, sand and sheets that houses and sites are made from, bought by a homeowner mid-repair and by a contractor or dealer in quantity. GullySales rewrites listings around size, grade and use, and gives the trade buyer a quotation and stock route that the homeowner never needs to see.

The trade buyer is the other half. A contractor, interior fitter or dealer is buying fasteners by the box and cement by the truck. They want size, grade and brand in the title, a rate for the quantity and an answer on whether it can be delivered to the site this week.

The category rewards a seller who treats a small item properly. Listings titled 'screw' for a hundred different screws, unit prices that nobody can compare and no stock figure are why most buyers phone instead. Fixing those is slow, line-by-line work, and it is the work.

Who it is for

This is written for you if you sell hardware & building supplies online.

  • Hardware brands and importers selling fittings, locks and fasteners through their own site and marketplaces
  • Hardware dealers and building material shops who want orders from beyond their neighbourhood
  • Manufacturers of adhesives, sealants and door hardware who sell through dealers and online
  • Contractors' suppliers who run a counter, a godown and a phone, and lose enquiries between them
  • Sellers on Amazon and Flipkart whose listings lack the sizes and quantities that buyers filter by

Not for

It is not the right fit if.

  • Sellers of loose bulk materials with no way to quote delivery to a site. The enquiry arrives and cannot be answered.
  • A dealer who sells only to a few contractors on credit and wants no new buyers. Your relationships are your marketing.

How buyers choose

What decides who wins in hardware & building supplies.

  1. The problem first, the product second

The homeowner types 'door will not close properly' or 'wall crack filler'. A page that names the fault and then the product is found. A page that lists a maker's code is not.

  2. Size, grade and finish

A fastener is described by length, diameter, thread, head and material. A hinge by size, thickness and finish. A trade buyer looks for exactly those, and will not message to ask for what the page could have said.

  3. Unit of sale

The same screw may be sold by the piece, by the packet of a hundred, by the box or by the kilogram. Buyers compare the unit price across sellers and abandon the page when the unit is unclear.

  4. Stock and delivery to site

A contractor asks if it is in stock, whether it can reach the site tomorrow, and whether the invoice will carry GST. For bulk materials the vehicle and unloading matter as much as the price.

Where sales are lost

What usually goes wrong when you sell hardware & building supplies online.

In the words sellers use on the first call.

  • “A buyer ordered the wrong size and sent it back”

Screws and hinges look alike in photographs. Without length, gauge and finish in the title, the return is the likely outcome.

  • “Our price looks high because nobody can see what is in the pack”

A pack of fifty set against a pack of a hundred reads as a price difference. Showing the price per piece makes the comparison fair.

  • “Dealers ask for a catalogue and we send photographs on WhatsApp”

A dealer deciding whether to stock your range needs sizes and codes in one place. A scattered chat thread loses the order to the maker who has a proper catalogue.

  • “Contractors enquire and then buy from the shop next door”

The enquiry came in at noon, the reply came by evening, and the site had already sent someone to the counter. Answering fast is the whole of it.

What we do

What you get for hardware & building supplies.

Each deliverable and what it is there to change.

  1. A size-by-size catalogue

Every product family with sizes, finishes, pack counts and codes in a table. It is what the dealer asks for and what search engines can read.

  2. A unit-price standard

One agreed way of showing price per piece, per packet and per box across the site and marketplaces. It makes the comparison honest.

  3. A stock and delivery answer template

A short reply your desk sends for each enquiry, with fields for stock, delivery date and vehicle. It stops the answer depending on who picks up.

  4. Homeowner guides to the common repairs

A set of short guides on loose hinges, door locks and wall filling, linked to the product. They catch the buyer who does not know the product's name.

  5. An enquiry log

A record of every enquiry with its source, product, quantity and outcome. It shows which items bring orders and which only bring calls.

How the result is measured

  • Purchases
  • Conversion rate
  • Qualified enquiries
  • Quotation requests
  • Orders won
  • Return rate

Recorded as a baseline before work starts, so every later report has an honest comparison.

How it works

From your first message to the first report.

No open-ended retainer. Every step gives you something in writing.

  1. First

    Free audit call

90 minutes with whoever handles your enquiries: how they arrive, how fast they are answered, where they are lost.

  2. After the call

    Written, scored report

Six areas scored, fixes ranked by return and cost. If you want our help, the scope, the fee and the reporting come with it, in writing.

  3. Before work starts

    Baseline recorded

Enquiries by source, reply time, conversion and cost per order, written down so every later report has an honest comparison.

  4. After the baseline

    The first fix goes live

Usually the cheapest one on the report: reply time, a follow-up sequence or the marketing-to-sales handover.

  5. As agreed

    Report against the baseline

What moved, what did not, and what changes next, in plain words. How often you get it is set in writing before work starts.

  6. At renewal

    Renew on the numbers

The term ends and you decide whether to continue from the results. The length is agreed in writing before anything starts.

What the work involves for hardware & building supplies

  1. 1

Audit the catalogue and the enquiry route

How products are titled, how sizes are shown and who answers an enquiry are looked at first. The scored report that follows the 90-minute audit call sets out what to fix.

  2. 2

Choose the product families to start with

A hardware catalogue can run into thousands of lines. We pick the families that bring most orders or most returns and start there.

  3. 3

Rewrite the titles, sizes and units

Product titles, size tables and price per unit are rewritten and published for the chosen families, with tracking in place from the start.

  4. 4

Build the dealer and contractor route

The catalogue download, the quotation form and the reply template are set up and agreed with the people who answer the phone.

  5. 5

    Measure against the baseline

Orders, enquiries, quotations and returns are reported against the baseline recorded before work began. You and we settle the reporting rhythm in writing once the audit is over.

What we need from you

What to have ready before the audit call.

None of it has to be tidy. We read what you have.

  • Your website, marketplace and IndiaMART listings, if any
  • Product list with sizes, codes and pack counts, even as a spreadsheet
  • Your best-selling items and the ones returned most
  • A sample of recent enquiries and how long each took to answer
  • Your delivery area and the vehicles you use for bulk items

Selling in India and abroad

Selling hardware & building supplies beyond your own market.

Where you sell decides sizes, units, seasons and returns. We work from Bengaluru and have no overseas office, so for a new country we start from your own sales and the platforms you already use.

  1. Thread and size standards

Screws and bolts follow different thread and size standards in different countries, and metric against imperial decides whether a fitting fits at all. Overseas listings need the standard stated in full, not just a name.

  2. Weight and what to ship

Hardware is heavy for its price, and sealants and adhesives carry shipping limits that depend on the carrier. Check with your forwarder which lines are practical to send.

  3. Dealers abroad

An overseas dealer behaves like a domestic one: they ask for a catalogue and a price list, then a sample order. Your own enquiry and sales data show who already asks.

There was no website or online platform of any kind, so nothing showed the products, their features or their technical specifications. A dealer who wanted a specification had to ask for it every time.

FAQ

Questions about selling hardware & building supplies online.

Not here? More answers, or ask on WhatsApp.

Can hardware actually be sold online, or only through a shop?
It can, and the fast sellers are those with exact sizes and pack counts in the title. Small items ship cheaply, so the issue is not postage but wrong-size returns. Rewriting titles before spending on ads usually matters more.
How do I show prices for items sold by the piece and by the box?
Show the price per piece next to the pack price, and keep the same units across every listing. Buyers compare these before they compare brands. A mixed set of units is the main reason a fair price looks high.
Do I need a separate catalogue for dealers?
A dealer wants a code-wise list with sizes and rates, something to forward to the purchase team. The website can be the source, with a downloadable catalogue built from it, so there is one set of numbers.
Is it worth advertising a low-cost item like screws?
Rarely on its own. Advertising pays when the item brings a basket, a repeat contractor or a bulk enquiry. We look at order value and returns in the audit before putting any spend behind a small item.
How long is the contract?
The term is agreed in writing after the audit, along with the fee and the reporting. It is never a default twelve months, and renewal is decided on the numbers against the baseline recorded at the start.
How soon will we see results?
Fixes to reply time, follow-up and your Google Business Profile are the quickest to show, because the enquiries already exist. Ads can follow soon after follow-up is in place. SEO and content take longer. How long each takes depends on your business, and the audit tells you which applies to you. Nothing here is guaranteed.
Who will actually do the work?
The person you meet on the audit call. We work from one office in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, with no account managers in between.
What do you need from us?
For the audit, last month's enquiries in any format and 90 minutes with whoever handles them. After that, access to the accounts the work touches, such as the website, Google Business Profile or CRM, and time for the review meetings.
What if we are not happy with the work?
Tell us and the plan changes. Everything is reported against the baseline, so a number that is not moving is visible to both sides. The term is in your written scope, and the refund and cancellation policy sets out the rest.
